I decided that when I pursue my master's degree that I will write an extensive essay on the very advanced "two-handed vibrato" technique that people rarely master, and for some reason mistake for shaky bow. Amateurs.

last year I was nearing the end of some crappy middle school american folk piece (i dont even remember the name of it LOL) and I had a solo (even though I suck) and my shaky bow was so bad that my parents thought I was doing it on purpose. At the end of the concert they came up to me and said "I loved how you added that cool shaky part in your solo! It sounded great honey!" And I just internally crawled into a fetal position with embarassment.

I usually don't get nervous during performances anymore because I have no self esteem
I've managed to translate my shaky bow into shaky knee, so at least it doesn't impact my playing, only issue is if I am too nervous, the shaking can make me fall over, I nearly fell once when singing but I've never yet fallen when playing violin

maybe your bow-hold's off, try asking your private instructor to check your posture, left hand position, and bow-hold.

People tend to psych me out the most when I'm first learning a piece. If I didn't have someone tell me "You gotta be careful here, it's common for people to do ___________ there" I wouldn't second guess myself. As soon as I know it's commonly played wrong, I start doubting if I'm playing the right thing no matter how many times I tell myself "It's an F sharp", or how many times I practice; I'll always be sitting there thinking it's not what I think it is.
When I learn music I tend to divide the segments into how I feel the music, and stopping to suddenly intensely focus on something kills my tempo. It's difficult to get it back again, and I played second violin lol. I couldn't imagine that happening on something more intensive.
Is anyone out there who loves Eddys hair as much as I do? ♥
I played a solo in front of a minister of state before and got shaky bow but because my violin teacher says I have good vibrato he thought I just had really intense vibrato throughout the whole song. heh.

Violist have to learn a new clef and treble clef. And what makes them less of an instrument when they are played THE SAME as a violin. might as well say the cellist isn't a musician because they're not a violinist. The world doesn't revolve around the fucking violins. I'd say there is already to many of them. It's rare to find a good violist, but they're out there and they can kick your ass.

OMG I just clicked 'like' on this video! It's been one month since I got my very first violin and I have that "shaky bow". I didn't suspect that was because of coffee (I always drink coffee) and think that maybe that is because of my improper bow hold or uneven pressure exerted on the bow when doing downbows.

Once at orchestra practice, I got shaky bow and one of my friends was surprised by that and asked me why I did. I told them, "It could have been MUCH worse if were a viola player."
I liked the set-up with the with behind them, sure I'm not used to it, but i still think it looks nice. They seem more energetic when they wee standing up as well.
Got shaky bow today, at the Royal Concertgebouw, my gosh. I NEVER get shaky bow when playing in the orchestra, only when doing solo pieces. The worst was during the end of a piece, cause you have to be silent yet "keep it suspenseful" by making it look like you're still playing. Damn my bow went all over the place. You know what cured it? Hearing Etude-Caprice mvt. 4 on a viola XD boosts your self-confidence that whatever you do, it's not the worst that day.
Every month there is a concert that 3 teachers are giving me grade for that month and there is always that one teacher that is telling me that I have shaking bow bc I didn't practice enough and my grade is always lower that it should be bc of that teacher #hateit
(shaky bows can also be caused by holding the bow too tight but you already knew that)

It's worse with winds because the moment you start even thinking about being nervous you fucked up the breathing.
I will always get distracted and think of something entirely irrelevant, like how to build something or some problem that isn't music related, then get near the end and think 'oh sh!t' and try to concentrate and inevitably either get shaky bow or c*ck up a really easy passage, but as you say, at least I'm not a violist...
