I just love your plant collection, and that you share your wisdom about them. I have 2 ponytail palms that I've had since around 2001. They are in a 16" pot and they are so long; the pot is on a stool that's about 3 1/2' high and it drapes down to the floor! I never knew what kind of plant they were until I saw your videos. I love learning about the plants from you. :)

Thank you. 😊This video was very helpful. I received a ponytail palm from my coworkers for my birthday. Within a month all of the leaves have fallen off. I checked the roots for root rot. Everything looked good, no pest or anything. I changed out the soil and repotted it back into its nursery pot. Sadly my palm has not recovered and it’s been about 2 -3 months now. I did not want to throw it away because it was so nice when I received it. Thanks to your video I see that I have to cut the “trunk” and hopefully some new growth will come out! 🤞🏾

Thank you for this! I had a beautiful ponytail palm, it grew really big and mature...but my parents left it out in an unheated greenhouse this winter. I've taken it home and put it in the bedroom, but sadly it has lost all of its leaves. But I will try this, and hope it will grow some new ones back in spring.

I just rescued a pony tail palm from Lowe’s, and I repotted it since it had grown. Now I hear to wait a few days before watering it. Is this true? Also it’s leaning to one side, is this ok? It does not bother me since it’s pretty. When I water it do I make sure to get it wet to the bottom? I also notice it seems loose in the pot, should I change it?
Thank you for this informative video!!!

I bought this plant from someone that had it potted up in a 20 inch ceramic pot with only one stem, it's a big plant. Since I brought it home I did lift it from the pot to see how root bound it was and I had to add a little soil to it which i kept in the same pot and I also watered it right after. The lower leaves on the stem are browning up and falling the new leaves on top are looking great but the stem is starting to look more bare, is that normal? I dont water it till its bone dry and than I still wait another week before I do it's on my deck with full sunlight, any idea why its losing leaves rapidly?

Hi Christine...I live in Southern California and I have a ponytail palm in a pot in my backyard. I moved to a new home in March 2018 and the palm is now exposed to full sun most of the day. It promptly turned a much lighter green than it used to be. I’m assuming it needs repotting with new soil and nutrients. What do you think could be the reason for the light foliage and what type of fertilizer and soil should I use? Thanks!

So interesting! Thanks for the info. I'm struggling to save to money plants, we had a bad leak in our house several months ago and have had constant work being done and I've tried to keep my plants protected until this last step , the contractors sealed of several areas in our home to paint , i kept my two money plants in other rooms and we left for two days and I came home and they look awful, leaves totally discolored and slowly dying, a few tiny , tiny sprouts left. Does anyone have suggestions, they were both so healthy!!!!

I just purchased a ponytail palm, when i went to repot it, I broke apart the soil and found barely any roots and a hole on the underside of the caluex bulb. Pre existing root rot/ then completely bone dry im guessing.
    Can it be saved??

I'm in the Pensacola FL area and I FORGOT to move my sweet old pony tail inside last week for the 19degree drop. The crown of all 4 pony tail's (I don't know what to call them :) are now drooping. I know they are dying. I found you by searching for frost damaged pony tails. So, do I cut them all now? It is inside my garden room/porch. We will have another 22 degree drop next 2 days. It's in about a 60 degree room. I did spray with Capt Jacks Copper Fungicide one time. It said to wait 10 days before treating again if I do treat it again.

I hear alot about overwatering and I've had mine a long time it stays outside year round in a huge pot it's well over 6 ft. Tall and it gets alot of water unintentional of course but here in Pensacola Florida it rains all the time and I think I get away with it because it drains very well the pot has a lava rock false bottom that's why I think drainage is the problem not water , the pot must drain well however my bulb or the foot isn't HUGE like most and that's probably from overwatering

Hi, I hope you see this. It's been years since you posted this video but I did a search on trimming ponytail palms. I've had one I bought from a yard sale about 10 years ago. It was chest high and is now over 9 feet. I put it outside every summer where it seems to grow another 10 inches. We're going to. E building a new home with vaulted ceilings but It will be in 2 years. So here's my dilemma. My current house has only 8 foot ceilings. It has to be inside during our winters (Northern Arkansas). I don't want to give it away, and there is no where else to put it. I have been trying to come up with ideas for months now. There is truly no where else I can put it. The garage is not heated, and I don't believe grow lights would be enough all winter. Here is my question. Would it be alright if I trimmed about 1 1/2 feet off the top? That would essentially be removing almost all the growth it has had over the last 2 years. This would buy me time until our new house is built. I wish there was a way for me to show you a picture of it. Anyway, It would be the softer new fresh top leaves that have sprouting up and out of the very top and fountained over. What do you think? Thanks!

    • @stephenvorwerk1520

Id trim the roots and repot in a smaller pot... Let it sit sideways in the house etc. Insulate the garage but don't cut the top
