  • Cam takes a look back at one of his personal favorites: The BlackBerry Pearl 3G. It wasn't the most popular, or most hyped device BlackBerry has ever released, but its small form factor, amazing battery and great keyboard combined to make a phone that was practically perfect for Cam.

Just Drive looks like it’s over, blackberry internet service is no longer offered by carriers :/ so all you can do is SMS or call with the pre-blackberry OS 10 models. (The ones I actually like)

Wow, a blast from the past! I loved my BB Pearl 9100, yes it was compromised in areas but it was still a full Blackberry but in a wonderfully small, convenient, pocket friendly package.
Funny he mentions turning the phone off at night as well: Blackberries of that time still had hardware alarms, you could turn it off and still have it wake you up in the morning! Remember when mobiles did that..?! :-)

This was my first BlackBerry... my favorite too! Wish they made new models now. Pearl was the ideal size IMO. Awesome battery life and signal.

I always have used compressed keyboard BlackBerry devices and 9100 was by far the most favorite one. Still have two of them which I use while roaming for voice and SMS because of its compact size and long battery life and HTC M7 as my daily runner.

I had the 8100 one, with the small pad ball that was always going bad. Small form factor but what I really remember was the quality of the ear piece, uniquely powerful and natural sounding. Almost like talking to a fixed line phone.

great video! the pearl is also my favorite as it contains everything you need and is probably the only phone that doesn't look like a miniature tv. it's hell original. the sound is so good that sometime I still use it when I go to the gym.

That was one of the Blackberries I wanted back then. It was always so expensive because they did not sell that many of them. I ended up getting a 9700 bold which was the big brother to 9100. I still think If I did not update the software on my 9700 I would still have it to this day. The reception got worst when I updated to OS 7 from OS 6.

Blackberry and Ericsson really did make the first Smartphones, Palm raced the razors edge when it came to capable phones, however. The Treo didn't excel in build but DID excel in versatility, as such they didn't need to release a drastically altered handset but just improve the rigidity and fluidity of one device. I don't exactly think Apple copied this omnibalance methodology well, considering, you know... #Bendgate
