- Investigators hint of a deep hatred of women (and his own unemployment) in Belton, TX resident George Hennard that drove him to shoot up a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen on the 16th, leaving 22 (at time of this broadcast) dead; Mike Capps has a report, showing where he lived; neighbors including Ann Hartfield and Mike Ward give their accounts of what he was like; sisters Jana Jernigan and Jill Fritz show a hateful letter Hennard had sent them in June
- House of Representatives defeat a measure that would have banned 13 semi-automatic weapons of the type as used in the shooting; however, one opponent, Rep. Chet Edwards (R-Killeen, TX) changes his mind on it and explains why in a video clip, but not enough to make a difference in the vote at the end
- Patrick Warren, 23, dead, and Ricky Oscar, 28, seriously wounded after gang turf warfare shootout at an alley near 4617 South Calumet; area resident Milena Goodlooe is interviewed about incident
- Illinois Democratic Party holding rally at Navy Pier to raise money for 1992 Presidential campaign - and target Senator Alan Dixon over his vote to confirm Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas; Al Vaughters is at this event, among which attendees include a certain Bill Clinton (whose campaign manager, David Wilhelm, speaks in this piece, as does Clinton himself); but the two Illinois senators, Dixon and Paul Simon, are no-shows
- A political rematch looming in Chicago's 2nd Congressional District between Mal Reynolds and incumbent Gus Savage; Reynolds announces his candidacy in front of a foreclosed home at 2881 East 77th Street (if this were New York, that address would be under the East River facing towards Queens)
- Tentative agreement on 3-year contract reached between Chicago Sun-Times and its unions
- Hint of possible compromise between Chicago Board of Education and teachers' union
- 3 people win share of $63 million jackpot from latest Illinois Lottery drawing; report from Scott Smith is just getting started when recording ends

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help! - Zábava
I used to lay on the floor of my grandparents and watch cheers, "love and marriage"-- married with children, and then fox 32 news. My brother and I would stay quiet hoping they would let us stay up. So this upload is extra exciting for me bc I'm hoping it jogs my memory.. bc it was around 1990
Love the walk down memory lane….thank you. ❤️
1:52 Sounds like Will Lyman voicing the Tropicana commercial.
90210 watched that and Married with Children on Fox 32 was living in Waukegan, Illinois in 1990 at the time....TV was cool back then
That was a trip! you could extract a million internet memes, TikTok sound bites and CZcams clips from this 10 minute video.
Dumb Question? As someone not from Chicago, did WFLD-TV have a local newscast prior to them joining the Fox Network in 1986/'87 as the flagship station for the Midwest? Thanks to the Museum of Chicago TV for uploading these video clips. Especially watching news headlines and even historic events from the Chicago area between say 1970-2000.
No...pretty sure no. Maybe a mid-day news break or something
@@worthyofdeath Thanks for the comment. I knew pre Fox TV era in Chicago, there was only 4 full time 365 a day local news stations. They was Channel 2/WBBM(CBS) Channel 5(NBC) Channel 7(ABC) and WGN-TV(Channel 9.)
Down and Out of District in Beverly Hills is the ep when Annn'drea permanently moves into her grandmother's tiny apartment so she can go to West Beverly. The girls help decorate it so it looks like she has been living there all the time since the school district suspect she is not from Beverly Hills. This was my favorite show when I was young and Shannen Doherty was my very favorite of the cast.
Mel Reynolds! A true classic in Chicago's political history.
Well it's about time you posted something from the 90s!!! Been waiting for this for a long time!!!
@9:54 - The "keep going because something just went completely wrong" glimpse.
When mass shootings were rare and didn't happen seemingly twice a week 😔. The sad thing is this same kind of thing- someone (often male) has a grudge and suddenly snaps, taking it out on a random place on people he's never met- still goes on 32 years later and next to nothing has been done, and it's gotten infinitely worse.
This is fantastic! Kris Long is a fantastic news anchor. He worked at WPXI in Pittsburgh for a number of years in the 1990s, mainly anchoring the station's evening newscasts during the week.
Freaking STUDS, late at night. 😂
The birth of Slick Willys campaign for president.
I voted for him.... wasn't thinking clearly back then
OMG, Kris Long!! He came to Pittsburgh in the mid 90s (I would guess after leaving this station) and went full Ted Baxter.
bruce wolf
was this the first use of the term fox news
Used to be Fox Owned affiliates that used Fox News. I remember KTTV Los Angeles did the same called their local newscasts Fox News too around the time this aircheck was out.
@@cabalenproductions6480 this may also explain why these graphics of this rare Fox News Chicago open hasn’t been uploaded onto CZcams yet. Another lost piece of media back when the internet wasn’t around yet.

Here is the Los Angeles edition and KTTV Los Angeles called it's local newscasts as Fox News until Fox ordered the O&O's Fox ##News like Fox 11 News.
Way before Dawn Hasselbrook and Corey McFerrin
I remember Corey in Atlanta for WAGA before he left NYC.
