This game is amazing for speedrunning. I myself have been running it for maybe 4 years. It has honestly lost all its scare-factor lol.
I try to speedrun it every time I play. The game is terrifying, so I try to get thru it as fast as possible lol
Isn't the fastest strat to just glitch yourself into the underground lab without ever even going into the asylum? Literally skipping the scary part.

I don't play the Outlast games, but I loved watching the Let's Play videos. Absolutely terrifying. Also, did anyone else think until it was confirmed elsewhere that Outlast 2 actually took place in a purgatory afterlife for Blake so he could confront his childhood trauma and wasn't in the real world (of the game, at least)?
I was a little confused on if it was real or not until I saw the tower across the lake. Plus if u swim out on the left side while hugging the wall u can find a document that proves it's some kind Murkoff experiment but if u miss those things than it's easy to either see it as some kind of purgatory or the apocalypse
This is STILL the scariest video game I've played. I got it when I was 38 years old, and after the first time starting it up, I wouldnt play it after the sun went down lol

Some more details on the difficulties & a few more fun facts:
Normal & Hard are relatively the same w/ enemies killing in 3-4 hits but in Hard their visability increases & Chris Walker has a slightly better chance of killing in 1 hit.
Nightmare & Insane are the same in that everything can kill u in 1-2 hits but like w/ hard vs normal the enemies visability increases & on Insane difficulty the save system is disabled meaning that if u die u will go all the way back to the start of the asylum. Also on Insane mode Chris Walker can kill u in 1 hit 95-100% of the time. The Wound system in 2 causes all major bosses to be able to kill u in 1-2 hits regardless of what difficulty ur playing on
Some fun facts: U can have the gamma at max & the dark areas are still pitch black. All the gamma does is make it so u can see the lights a little brighter
Collectables are never in chase areas so if ur hunting for all that sweet sweet lore just know if ur being chased or enemies are in the same area as u there will be no lore to grab. This isn't the same in Outlast 2 & the lore can occasionally show up in areas w/ enemies but never during chases
In Outlast 2 the microphone used to also use ur batteries but Red Barrels decided to patch it as there is a section ur required to use it so now u can use the mic to ur heart's desire
One of the few games where the dlc surpasses the dlc imo, whistleblower is phenomenal

I played this game during a period of my life when i was very stressed and had started getting panic attacks, but not yet knew what they were. I remember playing 10 min at a time and then taking a break because i felt like i was going to die.
Just wanted to point out that the Lake County showed at 1:19 isn’t the one in Colorado but the one in California.
Three years after completing this game, I'm still curious about what transpired after Waylon Park released the tape. Did the military raid the Mount Massive Asylum?
One of the most stressful games I have ever played
If you haven't heard of Alien Isolation, it is a game based off of the Alien Film Franchise that has the same "hide-and-seek and avoid predators" type style of gameplay. It is very creepy!
Creepy is true, since you can't outrun the alien or be truly safe in any area or hiding space
Badass game but never play this in the dark...scared the hell of me!!!!!!!

i can only imagine how terrifying Outlast 3 will be... not to mention Outlast trials...
Trials will be good but I don't think it will be scary as the 1st and whistleblower. Because trials do have a coop which lessens the scariness of being alone. But outlast 3? Damn, Red Barrels should give everything they can to once again create a masterpiece, no, a God piece game
But Outlast Trials would be so much fun when playing with friends, but I don't have one

I speedrun this game (including the DLC) annually & it is a blast. My PB (Personal Best) is 45 minutes for the main game & 25 for the DLC on normal. My PB on Insane is 1hr 30 minutes. My overall series PB is 4hr and 36 minutes
I'm excited to play Outlast Trials when it releases
Do you speed run the game as is, or do you take advantage of glitches, etc? I had been trying to find a good speed run to watch, but I don’t like the ones where they use the glitches to skip entire areas. I get that that’s one way to speed run, but I really wanted to see someone play the game as it was meant to be played, just as quickly as possible.
@@goke8456 Yes. I do glitchless runs but I don't have a guild up at the moment. Plus I know this game like the back of my hand & can go through a lot of it in the dark which may not be the most helpful as a guide. I can offer some tips tho: A) Get the feel of the game aka set a time. It doesn't matter how "bad" it is. Getting a time is speedrunning 101. B) Figure out which sections ur doing to worst on & practicing those sections until ur satisfied. C) Finally Fine-tune ur time until its where u want it to be. It doesn't have to be the world record but as long as ur happy w/ it that's all that matters.

My favorite game in the Outlast series is of course Outlast. Played the Whistleblower DLC and it is second to my favorite but have not touched that Outlast 2 yet.

Outlast is besides Soma one of my favorite horror games. The story is amazing and I wished there were more games like this.
Also I think your images between the facts of some random people doing fitting gestures is annoying and doesn't fit the game too well...
I remember being disappointed with this. I love the gore, story and setting of the game and I creamed myself to that fucking awesome DLC but it just wasn't scary and I was under the impression this was like the scariest game in existence
