    It was just a rumor when I went to bed, when I woke up the very first thing I saw on my Instagram feed was the Ferrari announcement and my jaw literally dropped. I’m still trying to process it

    • @smith2781

      When I woke up this morning I only thought that I had slept for 2 months and checked my phone to make sure it was still 1st of February and not the first of April. It’s not so much Lewis going to Ferrari that has shocked me. It’s the fact that it was dropped today. Normally Ferrari like making their announcements at Monza. My guess is that Carlos Sainz leaked the news through a third party to stir the pot. A bit like when Christian Horner told people that Sen was going to Ferrari as soon as he found out. But yea I’m still trying to figure it out. I always thought he would go at some point but not this soon. Something has happened at Mercedes to change his mind maybe the car is 💩again? He looked pretty miserable when Mercedes released the photo of his seat fitting.

    • @talbotd27
      @talbotd27 Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@smith2781 man it was so shocking to me too. I thought maybe there would be rumors for a few years and then he may go, but I also thought this was just for him to negotiate better with Mercedes. Honestly part of me thinks that Lewis is kind of addicted to the spotlight and attention, and that he knew this would absolutely break the F1 news cycle and be hailed as “the biggest move in recent history.” But of course Lewis is not dumb, he must’ve seen or heard something from Ferrari that made him confident enough to make the switch. Maybe they’ve stolen away some crew members from a better team for the future and he believes that he can truly revolutionize the team. Either way I can’t fucking wait for the next two seasons

    • @smith2781
      @smith2781 Před 4 měsíci +3

      @@talbotd27 I agree with you but I don’t think Lewis is doing this for attention though as it’s very clear that this has happened just in a couple of weeks as they were talking to Sainz until then. Sky sports are saying that he must of tried this years car in the simulator and it’s not impressed him. They also said that his fav designer seera something moved to Ferrari and he knows how Lewis likes his cars to be. James Allison wanted this guy to be his number 2 but he’s left. So imo he spoke to Ferrari and they must of said however you want the car we will do it for you. Lewis was moaning last year that he’s been saying since the start of 22 that they haven’t listened to him. So it makes sense. Obviously when he spoke to Ferrari it must of been a very quick whatever you want you got it type deal.

    He’s also avoiding giving Ferrari any R&D from Mercedes by giving them the heads up, so they keep him out of the tech briefs. That’s by design from Lewis. Honourable, like a true Knight of the Realm!

    When he left McLaren we were all shocked and thinking he won't find success at Mercedes. It was later exposed that McLaren were supporting Jenson more and he left to start over. I believe he is tired of them not supporting his opinion about the direction for car development this generation. If he can bring back the driver's title to Ferrari it'll help cement himself as the greatest driver.

    Shocks that i know; senna prost split in team, Schumacher to Ferrari, max entrance in f1 (and what followed), turmoil when vettwl left, and yes when Alonso whent to aston Martin. But lewis to Ferrari is biggest consternation you could think of, because of this timing and driver show. All of us thought it woukd happen in 2025..

    This is for Lewis the best way out. He has lost already one year to Russell and this year he will have a good excuse as he is not the lead driver anymore. Then next year he will be new to the team which gives him another excuse should he lose to Charles. Either Ferrari has got a head start like Mercedes had entering the hybrid era or the car will lack performance which will give another excuse. So all in all a win/win situation for Lewis (even if he loses). Like him or not, he is a brilliant driver and as my daughter says, a smart cookie.

    I disagree with noble on why they have hired Lewis. I doubt it is for him to lead the team to victory cos what would that be saying about Charles whom they've hedged their future on? I think Lewis to Ferrari makes sense insofar as market or brand value that Lewis brings and Lewis gets to drive the iconic brand for his last legs.
    I don't know Lewis has the galvanizing factor like Seb did but it certainly will be interesting to see how he fits into tifosi culture which is unlike his Merc Days. Ferrari say no drive is bigger than the team. Ferrari do hlnot hesitate to point blame and they do t give you plenty rope to do your own maverick stuff.
    Lastly I guess CH is owed an apology after all, turns out team Hamilton was indeed looking for opportunities elsewhere and when it became apparent there's no seat at RedBull, team Lewis must have chances Ferrari and it worked out.

    I believe LH realizes fully the Verstappen/Red Bull combo is unbeatable at this point, so, he is on "vacation" mode joining Ferrari, understanding it matters very little which team he is joining, because winning a championship seems out of the question now. If he does a Vettel, or an Alonso Ferrari deal, winning a few races, and rehearsing a "challenge" for the championship it will be a blast, and I believe this will happen for sure, but the rest is just the rest. The only issue is how Leclerc will behave as a team-mate. If he beats Hamilton, then his cachée will suffer a blow, since it will be the third team-mate that beats him during a season. Regardless, this team switch has been most exciting. .

    Ferrari obviously decided this off-season that they were not going to renew Carlos Sains contract for 2025. That means Ferrari now has to look for a new driver for 2025. That said, for someone who is as involved in humanitarian and charity efforts as LH, we imagine he’ll do more good with it than a lot of people would. Top drivers are the real winners of the cost cap. Now teams can't spend a bunch of extra money on cars, so they spend it on poaching drivers. And conversely technical employees of F1 teams who are not in the top are the real losers. It's crazy that they will be denied even a small raise year over year just because of the cost cap.
