You can convince yourself of the efficacy of that 1X lens by researching 'magnification vs diopter strength'. The reading glasses industry confuses the issue by using them interchangeably, but there's a real difference. It might help to visualize that the function of a reading lens isn't to magnify, but to change diopter strength (the magnification potential of the lens at a given distance).
Gonna leave the research beyond that to you. :D

I’ve been using the Maker Calc for a couple of weeks and it is MUCH better than the Fraction Calculator that I have on my iPhone. I think there will be some nice additional woodworking I features introduced. I encourage peeps to do the 30-day trial. Game changer. I especially like the real time conversion to decimal and metric, and closest 32nd.

Maybe he's going to cover it in the future... I am very interested in a review of the new Harvey tablesaw fence. Looks like a gamechanger to me.

Harvey makes some amazing tools. I went with SawStop over Harvey for my tablesaw but still use a Harvey miter gauge and put the Harvey router table right on my SawStop. I've used both and the Harvey router fence is sooooooooo much nicer than SawStop's.

Like Microjig, I put out an appeal to woodshop teachers to contact me for free Hedgehog featherboards and push blocks (I like to send out the returns I get back that are in like-new condition) but the challenge is that the woodshops of my youth are disappearing. I contacted my local shool district to discover there are no woodshops in middle and high schools in my county.

Most schools did away with shop classes decades ago. You, and Microjig won't find many school shops to donate to.

These companies rip you off and drain the last penny out of you. The templates should be part of the router bit. At least a 1:1 scaled printable / svg. I have the option to print it, laser it, CNC it and what have. If I want to go the extra mile and buy then its my choice.
No wonder Chinese companies are eating up the market!

Speaking about dust masks, you said most woodworkers wear glasses (as do MOST all people). Why? Well, the smart Air Force Lieutenant who fitted my first glasses in the 6th grade said "now the purpose of wearing glasses is to see better". Well DUHHHHH!
Perhaps a question we should ask is, "Did God create man with defective eyes?" Does it make sense that a God who can create man, plants, animals, the Earth, and everything around us could not create perfect vision in man?
Some good news is we CAN have good eyesight! One of the books that belongs in your library is: Better Eyesight Without Glasses - The Bates Method - Natural Vision Improvement: With Extra Eyecharts & Training By Ophthalmologist William H. Bates, M.D. & Emily C. Lierman.
I haven't worn glass in over 10 years. I don't see as well as is possible, but I saw good enough to pass my driver's license exam. I see well up close, and my vision is greatly improved at a distance.
A lot of people are getting rich off you wearing glasses!!!

@@troyqueen9503 I am talking about good vision, not safety equipment. I see woodworkers and others wearing prescription glasses when they are sitting in front of a camera talking, or at church, or in the grocery store. If I am using power equipment, I certainly use goggles and face shields. I find hand tool woodworking to be more enjoyable and with hand tools, I don't need goggles. My worst fear with hand tools is dropping a chisel and having it penetrate my foot.

I've noticed too good to be true sales on name brands popping up on facebook I traced them back and appears to be an asian company. I report them but facebook does not seems to take them down. "Buyer beware." On the issue of woodworking optics it would be nice to learn what reasonable magnification is and about reputable products. We are not doing microsurgery but many of us can use some assistance and I for one am tired of having mine fall apart when it's fastened to my head. BTW still appreciating the Michael Cullen remote surface carving class and still waiting for the 9-3 gouge to make an appearance. The company indicates this tool should reappear in the US sometime this month. Vince E.
