I got my 500 on the wall too. Except I had lost the motor in it so I pulled it out and actually got a dC tread mill motor in it and I love it. It can turn down slow enough to drill steel with big bits too. I got all the controls and everything to fit inside and to turn it up and down the pot that controls that I did a knob style and I* put my speed control knob on it. So looking at it She looks like a normal mark 5. when I mortise I put a 2x4 from under the front of the table to the ground and lower down on it. That or use the 510 with my lgs on the table. It made all the difference and takes the flex out. I also put a quell handel on both sides so it is easier to pull down. I love the M2 taper extension idea. I think I am about to build my own custom pro tool rest. A few things I do not like about theirs and the pars list looks to be around $125. I have just as good of skills for metal fabing. I have a ShopSmith addiction I got the powermate with a spare jointer for $75 on market place in dec. Lol Then the proplaner last month for $250. Trying to find a belt sander and a 520 with a power pro. They are tarting to come up more often. I just missed a 520 PP wit new band saw for $1,200. I have a love for most all their tools, the speed increaser was a big flop they used cheap clutches that rub together they slip and burn up. Why not gears? Anyway looks like you have a nice shop. I am just in a 1 car garage. So they fit me well. But like you I was raised on them. I have been using them since age 8 and that was 40 years ago now. I will like and subscribe. Great review!!!

@@jvmiller1995 Appreciate all your comments. The treadmill motor sounds awesome. My wall mount unit came with a belt sander so I have an "extra." Send me an email and we can see if we can work out the details. woodworker1reboot@gmail.com

Ogh my gosh! That piece that you switched & made out of walnut! I installed that new SS toolrest and for the life of me thought i had installed it backwards. On off on off. I can NOT figure out why they configured that piece “backwards”! That extender is a great add-on, cause the new heavy duty tool rest prevents you from getting close to that end. That extension is another “win”. Maybe @mygrowthrings will address issues. Ps, good mod on the dust collector.

@@markb8954 I live 20 min from Shopsmith headquarters. I wish someone there would talk to me, even volunteering ideas. Actually Scott @mygrowthrings was the first to comment on my video. I think there's a way a traditional tailstock could be mounted on the Shopsmith. I don't have the machining tools to figure it out. Thanks for the kind comments.

Great tips. Appreciate the tape tip, I had forgotten that the banjo lock lever could be repositioned. Once I get the sawdust cleaned out I’ll be good to go.

I bought a Morse extension and found it I’d wobbly in my tailstock. I will have to revisit this, maybe need a 2 set screw version to hold the eccentric more firmly.

My Mark 7 has 2 set screws. My older tailstock didn't. I drilled and tapped a second screw. I bought a $20+ dollar Pittsburg tap set at Harbor Freight. I got a Morse taper drill chuck stuck in the tailstock. So I bought a couple tail stocks on eBay when I saw them for good prices for just in case moments. Had to add a second screw to both.
