    To have such an item passed to him from his father, now as he adored it is priceless. What I’d give to have anything from my passed father like this? I’d walk barefoot on Mercury.

    It’s a good thing that they did a preservation of that bass. I would’ve hated to see that originality and history be erased by a repaint.

    I literally relaxed when he showed the back and indicated it wouldn't be right to paint over the stories that wear told. That's the right mindset for this type of work.

      It was just a refret. It's a routine repair/upgrade. Removing the headstock logo is gobsmacking malpractice. He destroyed the value of the bass. Not a genius but a hack.

  • @brianf9615
    @brianf9615 Před 8 měsíci

    I thought the bass player was left handed? Obviously the band had two separate bass players. I was surprised they shaved the neck of the guitar down. Could they have filled in the damage on the neck rather than shaving it down?

      I can probably help! I run a guitar repair business. For the work done I would have quoted £335, refret is the dearest part, bearing in mind I would have approached the neck slightly differently so with the strip and re fin he did probably looking at about £400. I believe Davids prices are similar to my own hope that answers your question!

      @@domwood8373 I definitely wouldn’t be against the idea for the future, but my day to day is repair/set ups, and so I’m not equipped to build absolutely anything someone may want. And my experience with building is far from expert, it’s a side hobby that obviously pairs well when I’m working on guitars all day!

      Looks like the 'Fender' logo had already been removed by the owner. As the luthier starts removing the old strings, you will see that the logo is already missing @ 3:19 But surprisingly, the Luthier applied a replacement logo, which you can see if you pause at 7:45 🙂

    Maybe it's an ergonomic reason behind it. To constantly feel like you would get a splinter in your hand would make it unbearable to play and besides that fast movements to make uptempo music must be a vital thing.

  • @nesjo7777
