  • I spent a pleasant afternoon railfanning while waiting for the Strates Carnival Train at the site of the former FW interlocking in Buffalo, NY in early August of 1998. It had traveled the ex-PRR Buffalo Line from Pennsylvania en route to Hamburg, NY for the Erie County Fair. Everything went great until that darned westbound TY train came along and got in the way. At least it wasn't auto racks and it did have a lot of bare tables to see across. Lots of squealing as the Strates train negotiated the Transco Wye and the TV train ran through the relatively tight bend on the other side.

It was at a location that used to be known as FW Tower. The train is coming off of the end of the ex-PRR Buffalo Line at the Transco Wye. The ex-Erie SK Yard is on the other leg of the wye. It is surrounded by Seneca, Clinton, Fillmore and Babcock Sts.
FW Tower was an awesome place before Conrail "rationalized" its Buffalo area trackage. It is where the Erie, PRR, Buffalo Creek and Nickel Plate all came together, connected and crossed at grade. Even in the 1970s it was a rockin' rail junction.

@cp256 Great footage, too bad that other train had to get in the way. Show does in fact still travel by rail, still a sight to see as many generations have and it still is what makes this show different than all the rest.

They should have bought the Conrail units and displayed them during carnivals, I'd pay to see that! Unfortunately, I saw with my own eyes one of the las blue SD60's having her cab removed for the SD60E.

@xxxDeath9572xxx As far as I know it is still running. Strates Shows still bills itself as "America's only railroad carnival."

Vintage video; this stuff looks great.. I'm assuming the carnival train shown here doesn't run anymore?
