Florida is known for being a tourist destination for its year round warm climate, hundreds of miles of beaches, alligators, and theme parks. Lesser known, however, is that it is home to plentiful agricultural industries. U.S. Sugar is one such industry; a massive sugar cane producer that accounts for roughly 10% of all domestic sugar in the United States and large enough that it has its own railroad! Nearly a century ago, the cane trains that are currently hauled by diesels were originally hauled by various ex-Florida East Coast 4-6-2 “Pacifics”, and later on found the arrival of 1920 American Locomotive Company-built #148 in the 1950s. After serving its time as a cane-hauler, the engine went through multiple ownership changes, becoming a passenger excursion engine in New Jersey on the Black River & Western and later in disrepair in Colorado. Eventually in 2016, the engine was purchased back by U.S. Sugar to startup its new tourist operation, the Sugar Express. The engine returned to operation in 2020 in time for its 100th birthday, and saw its first public excursion hauling passengers in December of 2021. This video covers the first photo charter with the engine, hosted by Trains Magazine in the last weekend of January 2022, with a mixed cane train on the branches south of Clewiston and a short passenger train north towards Palmdale. Now, please enjoy this exciting video (for the first time in stunning 4K) brought to you by Blue Comet Productions!
This video was filmed on January 29th and 30th, 2022
Her whistle sounds very similar to that of Nevada Northern 40
Yes it does indeed sound like Nevada Northern 40’s whistle, the Ghost Train of Old Ely, Nevada!
Sweet. That Powell 3 chime really fits her well.
Not since 1975 has No. 148 stepped out and showed what those 68” drivers on a stretch of well maintained high iron can do! Kudos on a superb rebuilding, she looks perfect and happy to run at 5 mph or 40 mph. Great video!
Awesome video from the ground to the short ride along.
Man, love seeing her really get up and move! Great video
The best video of 148 I have seen so far. Excellent camera work and I love the 4K quality!
Excellent video! Glad to see 148 earning its spot on the map!
This is one Railroad that has a bright future! Good video of 148!
Wow!! Brilliant work here! Great job!
Another great production, Chad! Beautifully shot, perfect weather and a stellar performance by all involved.
Absolutely beautiful camera work, Chad! Glad to see the 148 is getting the recognition she deserves. Keep it up!
148 is sure gonna be bringing lots of tourists to Florida in the coming future and likely more once 1504 is up and running.
You said it
Love this, Chad! You've really stepped up your game with this one, especially with that 4K quality.
Another excellent production!
Really stunning camera work, amazing video!

Get out the SCISSORS.we got a STEAMER
So I'm a bit behind on my "Watch Later" queue - great video!! (As per frickin' usual, lol). There was one on-board shot where it looked like there was a fire off in the distance - what happened, do you know/remember?
That’s how they reset the sugar cane fields. They burn the stems for the next round of crops. They had quite a few of them going when we were out there.
I Love Your Channel
I miss the cb&q 5 chime
What whistle was it wearing during this video .
Last time I saw it, it was wearing a CB&Q 5 chime
Powell 3, expect the whistle to start changing
@@BlueCometProductions it would be awesome if 148 gets a 6 chime whistle in the future.
@@brianfalzon6739or how about his long-bell 3 Chime whistle from the 60s?
@@SuperFoxyRailwayProduction6702 that too
