Genuinely brakes my heart every time I listen to him talk about these songs. Going through hard times and progressing through life I've taken them with me when I just need to get away from the world and go else where in my mind. I hope he lives on and inspires others though his music as he dose to me all these years later.

I saw Stan Rogers several times at that little coffeehouse he mentioned.....Smales Pace in London, Ontario. I was living in London at that time. Gone far too soon.
I love these songs and all the others. Stan Rogers, what a treasure. And Garnet and the band, it could t get any better.

You ever hear his son? Nathan Rogers? Look up Nathan Rogers Northwest Passage or Mary ellen carter or flowers of bermuda, any of them. Turn it on and shut your eyes. Christ man, you'd think it was stan singing. Even looks like him. He even got the same bald head lol.

I've got to admit that even though I've listened to this hundreds of times, I've only just realised it isn't complete! You can actually hear the opening chords to Fat Girl Rag in the last few seconds of applause for Evangeline, such a shame that it got missed from the recording/radio broadcast
A terrific musician taken from us way too early! I only discovered Stan Rogers recently while listening to documentaries about airline disasters.

How great to hear an early take of Flowers of Bermuda. I hear Barrett's Privateers two years ago in a bar in Maine and instantly had to look up who this was, now obsessed with Stan Rogers!!

My wife and I in the state of MD love the music from Canada, from Deep Dark Woods, Royal Wood, Kathleen Edwards, Bruce Cockburn, Blue Rodeo, Alan Doyle, ex lead singer of GBS, and yes, the late Stan Rogers. David, Yes I was hoping I had a concert with Song of the Candle and the Jeannie C. Garnet did record Sammy's Bar on one of his CDs.

listening to him makes me feel like i am in ireland. i just discovered him a few days ago and that he left us in 83 at 33. it reminds me of my friend jim croce who also died in a plane crash in73 and he was 30. his partner maury was24. it seeems like stan got to record a lot more music than jim. jim was just getting known after years of struggle. this guy is excellent. i hate it when people like him and jim and many more were taken from us. too soon. i would not have heard him if not for youtube
My parents saw Jim in concert the week before he died in Rockville MD as the opening act. I was 18. The lost of Stan in 1983 was huge on the music world, as I discovered Stan in 1980 due to Washington DC folk radio show. And yes, both died due to planes. Stan's brother wrote a book about his travels with Stan, well worth the read. Its on Garnet Rogers webpage.

On Amazon look up the book Rise Again by Jim Cain based on Stan's song. I am on page 200 of this great novel.
During Sammy's bar, the audience participation is outstanding, especially the ladies!

Wow, what a great resource! The recording is so crisp and clean too. I wish I could get a copy of this on CD! i only got to see him once before he was taken from us, and was blown away.
It's incredible how new of a song "Flowers of Bermuda" is in this recording. An eventually energetic song in its timid infancy!

It really is interesting to hear this early take on it. It's slower, but you can tell from a few spots that at this tempo it was just too much even for a great singer like Stan. This isn't meant as a criticism of him, of course. Sometimes our own creations get off the leash.

In Witch of the Westmoreland,
"Stoop and strike me good grey hawk, and bring me the maiden fair", Stan drops down a third (?) on "hawk" then goes back up on "bring". It sounds really good, especially in this more staccato version.

When I hear Stan singing "Fogarty's Cove", I think of a masterful Shakespearean actor...complicated lyrics delivered perfectly.

This is priceless stuff right here, what a great singer he was. I have to claim Mary O'Hara whom he mentions on "45 years" back as an Irish man because she is Irish, not English as Stan says. Just a small thing, it did not spoil my enjoyment of this. God I wish I could go back in time to see this man live....

Good to hear this again. I first heard this in June of 1983, just a couple of days after Stan Rogers died. It was repeated on WXRT in Chicago, on their 'Midnight Special' show on the Saturday. I was an exchange student at Northwestern at the time. I taped the show - I only got part of it and the quality wasn't too good but I think I still have it in a box somewhere. Funnily enough, I was also in Chicago around the time of this show but I missed it. Pity. Thanks for putting this up. The version of 'Witch Of The West Mere Land' on this show has always been my favourite.
Hi Chris. You are welcome, as I have put up all the known audio of concerts for Stan. Garnet wrote a book about Stan and his travels, well worth the read, a shocking ending, not his death, but what Stan was doing in the end.

Hi It is very sad on what happened to Stan. Due to the plane fire, that got all airplanes to have O2 Mask and better lighting at the floor. The purpose of my downloads for Stan, is to keep him alive with what music he wrote and sung. Embrace Stan in continuing to listen to Stan and tell others about Stan and his music. It is okay to grieve even if you did not know him personally, but you must go on and keep him alive in your heart. WMD
@@westernmaryland1928 True and fair! I just discovered his music recently I’m a Louisville Native and I’ve sadly never heard of the plane incident or Stan till recently.
I am from Maryland near D.C. I have been to Louisville once. The plane incident happened in 1983 and was not covered in the US News. For those who follow his style of music, we knew the sad news. But we have to go on too. Treasure what you hear in Stan's music. We see his brother alot in concert, he knows us. He wrote a book about Stan and him in their travels to concerts, both in Canada and the US. (Another who passed away too young in 1984 was Kate Wolf, look her up on CZcams.) garnetrogers.com/ He has two books as he just released a very good novel.

This was a rebroadcast concert on a radio station, I believe. I am not sure what the person used to record this radio broadcast. It never was a video until I took the audio to a picture I selected for the CZcams upload.
Any history of how this recording happened?

Hi this is part of the Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park, as its part of the Witch Hole loop. No cars allowed, either bike, walk or horse. Built in the early 1910s to 20s by John D Rockefeller. The roads are 50 miles. I hope this helps Mike

LOL I never heard of that group from Montreal, but its a interesting listen, anyway. I am sure they did not get airplay in the States, as I was 8 in 1963 and The Beatles where coming everywhere. O:)
