Great vid. I'm about to get some of these little guys and needs to know more about their care and planting. On a side note, a Rhizome is attached to the main stem of a plant like Anubis, lotus, ginger and are normally used as a type of energy storage form for the plant. The branching runners of this plant are a "stolon" in botanical terms, which are non-root shoots from the main stem that are on the surface or just below the surface of a soil or substrate. The have a long internode space and are adapted by the plant for asexual propagation.
Thanks for the info and tips! I am glad I just ordered both Dwarf Hairgrass and Microsword from you. I think my kuhli loaches will enjoy some new cover even though they love parking up in the Java Fern as it is!
Awesome info!!! Just bought some for my 30 gal with fantails. going to try the whole pot idea instead of separating, found the fantails to be very curious to new things in the tank. TY for the heads up!!!
i'm still confused about low/med/high light, when i ask what the difference in lighting is i can never get the same answer. some say wattage, some say kelvin, some say the spectrum of light used. I just want to be shown 3 examples of lights i can buy on amazon that are low/med/high so i can try and figure this out. can anyone help me out?
I have what I got as Narrow Leaf Chain Sword. I have it in a 29 gallon tank with pool filter sand substrate and (I think) pretty good lighting. It was slow to take off, but with regular liquid fertilizer it’s doing great. The dwarf hair grass in another tank is doing nothing. I’m contemplating moving it to my high tech tank that has CO2.
Dwarf hair grass seems to grow well in sand, for me. But in my gravel/dirted/Eco Complete/Amazonia tanks it eventually just disappears. I have a 5-gallon Betta tank that has a decent patch of hairgrass growing in the sand. And I started a 20-long with sand and the dwarf hair grass is spreading through the tank! No C02, mid to high lights.
Normally when I buy them I throw the whole pot in the tank and let it sit for a few weeks before I take out of the wool. They normally have melted back for me. I try to buy plants a full Aquatic, but they where coming in covered algae, so stopped buy from my local pet store. Their fish section has gone to crap!!!
Mr H2O- When adding emersed grown plants to a tank (as almost all plants are,) how in your experience does CO2 supplementation affect the transformation from emersed to submerses? Is there any logic to allowing the plant to transition in a low CO2 environment? Thanks for the great videos.
Patrick Nedley I grow a lot of emersed grown plants myself. If the humidity is pretty high when grown emersed they will usually do well once submersed. Especially if you have good roots on the plants and in a good substrate/root tabs! 👍
In my first planted aquarium I wanted to do microsword, but I couldn't find any close to me, so I ended up getting dwarf hairgrass instead, and it is growing like crazy. The only problem I have with it, is that it is growing so fast and thick, that the hair algae that I am fighting in this tank gets stuck in it, and it just keeps it in the aquarium. I would still at some point like to get the microsword for that tank at some point in the future though.
I am starting a new tank and I'm needing a little help . Dimensions of the tank 72 " x 18 " x 24 " deep . I'm going for a community tank or small schooling fish . Of course need the plants to correspond with the light . ??? That is where I am looking for your help . I have 2 other tanks that are Planted however schools out for right now because i guessed on plants and light . Your help is appreciated .
Yes unfortunately I have some black beard that rode in on some plants from my local pet store. It's over taken some of my plants. I'm beyond pissed. I can handle other algae. I hate BB. It's only in one of my tanks, thank God. I can't kill it. Idk what I'm going to do. I spent alot of money on my plants. I pulled some that where really bad. I put them in a container with fresh conditioned water and stuck them where there is no light for about 4 days and nothing it's all still all over my plants.
What about the micro shield? 🤔😂 - can you actually treat algae like Blackbeard with plants in the aquarium? Or does it affect the plants? Thanks for the vids man!!!
Thanks for the info I'm still slowly adding plants to my tanks

Is microsword the same as Lilaeopsis?

What’s the pot to gallon size ratio? One pot = five gallon tank? Orrrr
Subbed for the beard
Would it take too long to propagate either of the microswords back into say a new 2" pot with new rockwool ?
do you remove them from the pots or just let them grow within?
I have a half gallon will I be able to plant anything or I need to get a bigger tank

Hey! Is the microsword the same Hellanthium tenellum?
H2O Plants thanks! I look forward for that video!
