Real investors think deep and hard, after spending countless hours investigating and researching the company before investing their money. Conviction is key.
Do real investors then stop thinking once they invest and ignore everything that happens thereafter?
@@SashaYanshin they don't get shaken out at the first sign of mild adversity. I appreciate not everyone has the stomach to handle such situations. As for serious fundamental changes to a company, one must always be ready to adapt.
In the case of Palantir, your conviction was clearly fragile in my opinion. Why invest in a company when you think so little of it? You're wasting your own time and money (assuming you bought high and sold low).
@@canismajoris4168 We've got to pin this one.
@@SashaYanshin I remember you made a video about ignoring the noises and don't sell the stock based on emotion or fear. I think you thought you made a thoughtful decision to sell out PTLR and it was not based on fear or emotion (from your point of view), but other people looing at you has different opinion. My opinion is I think you sold based on your emotion because you dislike how Alex Karp behaved and how the management team did not want to show their change of expectation in an "obvious" way. It's not like they lied about it. They still showed it, albeit it not obviously. From my limited experience with corporate management, this is normal business practice. Company will try to show the best and positive thing in the presentation and include the negative or change in the appendix or whatever it is called.

Thanks for honesty and good advice in your videos Sasha! Don't waste your energy with all the trolls! Absolutely love your analysis videos and hoping I can learn little by little from them.

Great video Sasha. I'm new to investing - was wondering if this same advice applies to index funds?
Index investing is a very different kettle of fish and it’s not really one for trying to time and buy into/sell out of - that’s the gambler trader mentality. So definitely not the same line of thinking.
Well said, sounds like your a genius like the Chicken
Amen. I believe in long term investing, however, if I make a huge gain and it even acts like it is starting down, I will sell and possibly buy back when it drops significantly. Thanks for another great video.

I still holder of PLTR but i have different reasons for that but i never doubt in your finance analysis and perspectives. Haters gona hate and real folowers will still be with you. Hi Sasha, I would be really interested in your opinion on Intel. Intel is ofcourse a known giant in the cpu industry which has been underperforming for the last few years but it recently tried to join the gpu market (unsuccesfully so far), got a new capable ceo and has a low (my opinion) valuation if you look at the balance sheet. But since im not the sharpest tool in the shed if it comes to financial decisions I would like the opinion of a rational finance guy like yourself
I hold pltr and I do not mind your selling. Thanks for sharing why you sold it.
👍 Thanks for commenting! Nice to know there are people out there open to different opinions!
Nice 🙂
Thanks! 👍
I agree with you Sasha ! The execution of a stock is depends on one’s risk appetite and how you employ your asset. Unlike you I didn’t sell my position because I don’t want to absorb over 50% loss rather hold and hope to get into positive and believe in its future prospect.
Sasha could you do a video about currencies in a crash? Will the pound keep going down? Should we convert to dollars? What do you do in an ISA where you have to keep it in pounds? Is there an ETF?
Im too proud

Hi Sasha, what would u recommend I do if I’m buying stocks to save for my home in roughly 5-8 years time
Ehh don’t even think about it! I can see you thinking… don’t! Buy SP500 low cost fund and hope there is no downturn by then or be ready to do countless hours of research on things you don’t understand. So unless you have a spare 2000 hours to learn and research either invest in your education to get a better job or start a business and try your luck. That's what we're here for!
What if i was bery right and the company did really well and the price increased substantially more than i expected.wouldnt that also be a reason to sell?
I sold my pltr @ 47% loss, but have no regrets. U are 100% correct in your logical analysis.
Let's see how strong your hands are in September when the Fed goes full speed tightening mode.
Well said Sasha.
Knowing that we are all fallible and being able to recognise mistakes is a key quality in all aspects of life. Also setting personal boundaries and plans is vital.
It's all about doing what you have to in order to achieve your objectives. Sitting and praying for hopium is not a great strategy.
If you buy high quality companies at a reasonable or even cheap price, reassessing too often is your enemy. Sure you keep track of at least quarterly reports. But basing your decision on even a quarter is risky.
Also, if you suffer a massive loss in a stock (percentage wise), you might as well hold it and see what happens. Just don’t put any more money in it. If it goes bankrupt, you won’t lose much more. Chances are higher it will recover. And as far as putting that money to better use: unless you really have no cash on the side, you shouldn’t sell for that. Rushing into another stock to make that money back is a dangerous mindset.
funny:)

Great video. Very informative. Still in that stage 2 stage 3 area reassessing the company, will give them a few more quarters. I think headwinds are there for eveyrone with the economic downturn. Will not be adding more unless the share price really takes a dip. I think you make a good point of analyzing but I also think the market is a bit of gambling hall. There are jsut so many events that you can't account for. Depending on your time horizon for money . I think holding is not always a bad idea especially if you don't need the money and the company is still making growth with a decently health balance sheet. But I do understand your concept of opportunity cost.
Good luck with it! I have been in that holding pattern for a few quarters before now. Will be really interesting to follow how the story develops!
agreed
What happens about the 'hub and spoke approach' by this I mean only allow ETF positions to be above 5% in you PF and any individual companies to be under 5% in your portfolio.
Also most of my companies are stable companies like ULVR and KO or PEP.
In that case there are a vast amount of stability in the PF.
Sure it's not a market beating portfolio in most cases, I can live with that
This true but important not to trade too much as you pay 'tax' in the form of the buy sell spread. If you trade 10 times between flat stocks on a 1% spread you are down 10%.
Need long average holding period. If you are trading every month its hard to make money.
I was never keen on Palantir, It's CEO put me off as too it's employees share options that they were cashing in on in their millions..
It lacks diversity is worrying and it's reliance on the US Government which can or could be changed at any time..It's starting to branch out a little but it's going nowhere fast.. Maybe if we see around $2 then I may take a position but until then I'm not really interested..
Did you sell off FIVERR??
No…
3rd?
How far are we counting?! 😂
The most stupid part about this investment strategy is that the 13 year Bull run was propelled by very favorable conditions that are not there anymore and people still think it will continue.
Amazing video as always..
What would you say about Tesla increasing its car prices?? For example, Model S price is up to $100k from around $60k. That's like 40% increase😬😳
Also all the extras like custom paint, software, trim are up like 20% to 50% which are way above and beyond the CPI figures...
How can an average Joe afford a $100k 'standard' Model S??..this is going to be excluding a hell of a lot of peeps and current sales volumedemand will decline big time...so I'm a little concerned 😟
You're talking about the iPhone of the motor trade who stick tonnes of tech in their vehicles to justify the heavy price tag, driven up by the continuing high material cost of their huge batteries, made worse by the depreciation margin of the brand over a 5-10 year period. Take a look at Ford, GM, VW, which offer better valued entries into an EV with cars built around generations of experience in handling, ride quality etc, so at least it feels like you're driving a car. I own an Outlander PHEV, love it, compared to the boring driving sensation that are Teslas.
@@jasondoesinternet you're right. I'm considering exiting my position even though I initially planned to go long term (min 5 years) because for me, fundamentals keep changing and also Tesla is retail investor driven so never know when the hype starts to fade with fan boys leaving the club
I carefully examine the financials, examine the relevant competition, consider the macro environment....and buy the stock with the best looking CEO. 😂😂
It’s okay to sell PLTR Sasha. Maybe if PLTR gets it’s stuff straight it can be a turnaround stock and make a comeback. Just keep it on your watchlist. I still own and buy the stock due to knowing they will get their act straight.
Tesla long term investor. Have it since year 2018
When you sold all I said to myself was "shit dude I don't blame you"
But pltr is my gamble. I bought it with the intention to hold it for 5 years then go from there. Also it's such a small percentage of my portfolio it doesn't matter. I'm at 100 shares. No more no less. 3 years to go give or take.
But I'm balls deep in uranium so 50:50 over the last 5 years isn't bad. Old man stocks don't count
How did you know that I put $200 into palantir stock?
I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
You're right, of course, but I think it's worth adding that bad news also drops a stock price, so you need to take this into consideration when deciding if to sell.
Say you think a stock is worth 100 but the price is 60, so you buy it. After earnings report, it becomes clear to you the stock is actually worth 50. However, if the stock price drops to 30, it nevertheless may be worth holding; although you might want to note and admit you were wrong.
Good point - always reassess vs current opportunity for the company regardless of what happened before AND vs other opportunities in the market!
There's an exemplum about two investors walking down a street and see a large pile of money on the ground, one walks away whilst the other asks 'why', as they should pick it up. There other says 'It's not real'. Oh says the other, 'How could I be so foolish', and they both walk off. The point being that when a stock is so 'under-priced', you're assuming you know something about the market or the company that everyone else has missed, but the law of averages would suggest that if a company is so blatantly under-priced, that it seems foolish that nobody is buying it, there's more than likely a reason that you don't yet know about. It's one thing to admit you bought a bad stock and sell, but if you can't be specific about the mistakes you made buying in the first place, you are doomed to repeat them.
2nd?
Yes!
if I sell my stocks, I'm selling an income source, so selling is an absolute last resort for me. In normal cases, once I buy I never sell. And I can never invest in a company that goes against my principles.
You know you're allowed to reinvest your money in other stocks...
That makes no sense when something was a good investment doesn’t mean it always is good video @sasha yanshin

If you ask me selling because of new information (such as a companies changing course or revealing that the previously suggested course is no longer in their favor) doesn't even qualify as a previously wrong thesis. Just means that the thesis was right with the given info at the time and now has to be revised.
Well, it depends if you could predict that new I formation from the old information.
If a company looked a bit erratic before, maybe you should have predicted they'd change course?
Not sometimes but MOST times the company doesn't matter. It will CRASH with the broader market.

British Sarcasm at it's finest, proud of you Sasha. I've seen the other videos but agreed that every person sells when it's right for them. Those CZcamsrs still invested in PLTR will of course have their own vested interests. Personally I've only got 120 shares so might leave them sitting, or if I see a big jump, sell and buy more Tesla
I love meme stocks. With that said my portfolio never has more then 1% meme. Instead of going out to dinner or a movie I'll drop that much cash into a meme.
I think the problem some “investors” have with palantir is that they set their expectations on the moon when they are still building their foundation here on earth. So when we get results similar to others, everyone gets scared or disappointed. When in reality some people hyped it up so much in their head that they forgot palantir is a company and will have good and bad times.
But if you can’t handle the bad times then you should be investing in anything
Palantir and Proterra are my biggest fails in investing so far.

I do agree with you that there is no shame in selling in a relative shortish time frame especially with single stocks for profit or loss. They say time in the market which is stuff like your S&P 500 etf , vanguard type funds to me.
