- In todays video, Fishing Mini Jigs For Trout In Tough Conditions, I'm out at Diamond Valley Lake hiking the trails and scouting the coves trying to find those trout. Diamond Valley Lake is a very popular place to fish for trout in the winter/spring months but it does present a host of challenges. High fishing pressure from the large amount of shore anglers, fighting a fish through submerged trees and bushes, and inconsiderate boat anglers fishing way to close to shore, are just some of the challenges I have to overcome in order to have a successful day. Lets see how I do.

Glad I listened to your post trip talks. I finally got trout in their February stock, landed 2 out of 5(mini jigging, kept snagging with the 3 I lost 2(my larger fish 4-5lbs) were from exactly what you explained. I got all excited and anxious pulling them left and right trying to keep them away from the sticks I was fishing in between but they were still full of energy, got wrapped up and snapped before I could net them........so heartbreaking.
1st time catching trout again in over 10 years. feels awesome to know I'm doing something right, especially mini jigging(new to mini jigging, my 3rd time jigging DVL). I will give that a try next time, let them tire out a bit out deeper before bring them in near the sticks, trees. Thanks again! Keep the content coming it's pure gold and like that you've organized the playlists by lakes. I just pick the lake I'm going to and watch all of them and prep my stuff accordingly!
DVL has become my favorite lake even though it's super challenging with the hiking(I wore the wrong shoes and feet are still hurting a month later), boaters(better not go Wednesday since boat rentals are half off 😂), obstacles in the water, and it's 1 1/2 hours away(if no traffic) but besides that I love the water is clean and clear!(not Prado green 😂), feels like i'm out on a real lake out in the mountains. 🎣
Thats awesome, glad you got into some. DVL is a great lake as long as you can get away from the madness. Its a big accomplishment as far as I’m concerned to get fish to bite in that ultra clear water and then navigate them to the beach through all those bushes 🤘

I love trout fishing.
I just purchased a Bass boat this summer and although tempted haven't fished for trout with it a DVL for this very reason.
I spoke to one of the gentleman that worked there and from what I understand the first two coves are for shore fishing after that your allowed to pull into the 3rd cove with your boat. Well the trout are mostly in the fist 2 coves lol.
Regardless I wouldn't pull up on a group of shore fishermen like that, even in the 3rd or forth Cove.
I with you on shore fishing for trout at DVL is the way to go.

Limited out last Thursday the water is extremely low some idiots decided to throw rocks from the high trail into cove 1 where we were fishing we were extremely angry to say the least tight lines🎣

I just hit Lake Cachuma yesterday I think this is their second time doing a big 15,000 trout plant and the fishing is on brother!!

When did they stock it
@@MrJamieelsinore they stock on Tuesdays typically but dont have a set schedule they make public. If you follow “Diamond valley marina” on Facebook or Instagram they usually announce when they are gonna stock a few days ahead of time.

Real beautiful trout in that lake, all the stocked trout here in Vegas look nothing like that not sure if you’ve tried the rapala or live target mini jerk bait/ crank baits I like throwing those around when there’s multiple species in the lake like you mentioned on the bass and striper
Actually I made it a goal to throw more jerk baits for trout this season in the videos. Usually if I get into a decent bite I get excited and I forget haha

Another great and informative video!! We see the same thing with the boaters at Lake Cuyamaca!! Do you backing on the reel when fishing the Iron feather braid? Also leader or direct tie? Thanks in advance! Lee
Oh yes, I definitely use backing on my reels. With the Iron Feather Braid I use 4lb mono for the backing and then attach it to the braid with a double uni knot. I then attach a 5’ leader of 5lb RUNCL fluoro to the braid with a double uni knot 🤘

Good job bro, some guys just don't get it. We're do you put on your line, because the guys from turner's in corona don't know anything about putting Brad on trout reels.
I do it myself at home for similar reasons. On my rods that I run straight fluoro on I fill most of the reel up with similar sized braid and then attach the fluoro with a double uni knot and finish off the last 150 yards or so with the fluoro top shot. When its time to change out the fluoro, i just change the 150yds of top shot and leave the braid backing on. Hope that helps 🤘

Fishin for trout is pretty standard up there during the winter. The summer is where it gets more challenging. During winter I usually stick to the east end of the lake. The observatory, juniper point, and the east public launch area are good bets as the trout tend to head for shallow water when it gets cold. Carolina rigs, powerbait, micetails, mini jigs, spoons, and even dropshot will work. Just gotta figure out what they want each day. Also, the trout move around there alot so if your in a spot and don’t get a bite after an hour or so you may want to try another spot. Hope that helps 🤘
Hello. Do they sell golden state mini jigs at any tackle or stores ?
Esteban has his stuff in a few shops up in the Sierras but not down here in socal. He has the distribution set up in such a way that he can consistently get your order to you in 3-7 days. If he was to try and keep local tackle shops stocked as well it would negatively impact his distribution times for folks ordering on the website.

I guess you can take certain kayaks there but they have to be the ones you sit inside of. Mine is a sit on top type and they say those aren’t allowed 🤷🏼♂️

I would say a couple days at the most. After that you gotta really put in the leg work to locate them.
