The history of Manipur is reflected by archaeological research, mythology and written history. The Kangleipak State developed under King Loiyumba with its first written constitution in the early 12th century. Manipur under the 18th-century king Pamheiba saw the legendary burning of sacred scripture.
Manipur became a princely state under British rule in 1891 after the Anglo-Manipur war, the last of the independent states to be incorporated into British India. During the Second World War, Manipur was the scene of battles between Japanese and Allied forces. After the war, Maharaja Bodhachandra signed a Treaty of Accession merging the kingdom into India. It was made a union territory in 1956 and a full-fledged state in 1972.

The Burmese king gifted the manipur king the vishnu murti even earlier than Bengalis. There is the bishnupur temple in Manipur and Vishnupur district. Even after adopting Vaishnavism king build the sanamahi temple. The sanamahism and Vaishnavism goes along with each other. The sanamahism was saved bcz of Hinduism. The burmese had 3 kingdom..meitei needless to say are slave to them.
The 3rd kingdom was built by Alawng Phayar son of Musoephu(Shwebo village).
The meitei had made a sacrificial ceremony of peace with him. while the king invaded Yangoon, pegu, taungoo ,etc, and enlarge his dominion.... the meitei revolted against him. Therefore, in 1756 he invaded the meitei.
When his son came into the throne and while he was invading Thailand...again the meitei revolted and he with 20 thousands troops invaded the meitei.
Shinphyushin was known as a bloody King. He ransacked Thailand city called Ayudaya...they shifted the city to Bangkok and become the capital city till date.
While china and burmese are at war...meitei again revolted and were invaded in 1768 again.
Meitei last revolt with the support of the English was in 1824 when there was a war within the bumese royal family.
This is also known as the 1st war between English and burmese.This also pave the way for the English to conquere Arakan meitei and south of burma.
Both meitei and shan people had made a sacrificial ceremony of peace with the burmese. Shan hardly made revolt for they had peace within the family....nor they done petty job under the burmese.
Meitei on the other hand had fought among the family for rulership and often sought the burmese for help.
And often revolted by taking advantage when the burmese royal family is within at war.
Meitei looked after the burmese elephant, horse and others domestic animals, the burmese took the meitei to do all the filthy jobs.They were dirty...devilish mind...always at war among themselves...and they were despised.

It is a false history created by the Meiteis in Wikipedia.
Meieis and Nagas came only 200 years ago from Burma. Before them Bengali speaking Vishnupriyas used to be in Manipur but Meiteis expelled them in 1980s and they live as refugees in Tripura. Bengali used to be the official language under the Maharajas for at least 400 years. Meiteis, Naga, Mizo, Khasi, Jayantiya, Koch, Kachari, Ahoms all came from China. They are not the original people of the North East.
Meitei and Naga languages have no scripts; these are tribal spoken language. Thus, they have no recorded history more than 2000 years old; these are all made up very recently as the Ahoms also made up the history of Assam. They totally ignore the history of the North East before the 14th century.
Had Arjuna use to talk to Chirtangada in Chinese language, because Meitei-language has no link with any Indo-European languages? If you believe in the history recently concocted by the Ahoms, Meities, Nagas, you have to accept that too.
Bishnupriya speak an Indo Aryan language and that is not Bengali. Bishnupriyas are Indo Mongoloid.
