CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bob (Frank Langella) interupts a White House tour on his way to fire Dave (Kevin Kline), but Dave has the upper hand.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The ghost of Frank Capra must have smiled when he saw Dave, an amusing and effective update of one of Capra's favorite themes -- the scrupulously honest little guy who becomes a force for good against a corrupt system. Dave Kovic (Kevin Kline) runs an employment agency and seems to genuinely enjoy finding work for people who need it. He also bears a striking resemblance to the president of the United States, Bill Mitchell (also played by Kline) and occasionally gets work as a Bill Mitchell impersonator. One day, Dave gets a call from the Secret Service -- for security purposes, they want to hire him to act as a decoy for an upcoming appearance by the president. All goes well, but later that evening President Mitchell suffers a massive stroke while in bed with his mistress. Wanting to keep the matter a secret, two of the president's top advisors appeal to Dave to stand in as Bill Mitchell until he regains his health. One of the men behind this scheme, Bob Alexander (Frank Langella), hopes to use Mitchell's absence to promote his own right-wing political agenda, but after a few weeks "in office," Dave decides it's time to promote some changes of his own that will help increase employment and keep homeless shelters open. Dave also finds himself growing fond of Ellen Mitchell (Sigourney Weaver), the President's wife, while Ellen sees in Dave the idealism her husband left behind years ago. Dave features numerous cameo appearances by politicians, Washington insiders, and journalists; Oliver Stone also appears to explain a conspiracy theory regarding sudden changes in Bill Mitchell's behavior.

The look on Bobs face when he realises the 1st lady is in on it...priceless
Saw this in the theater when I was 11 and have been saying "we're walking, we're walking" ever since.
I heard it on Animaniacs. Must be where they got it from.
Just said it yesterday to my friends😂
Love Bonnie Hunt
Yeah, me too. Just did it last week, in fact. My wife joined in, although I’m not sure she even knows where it’s from.
He’s Walking, he’s walking. He’s Bob Alexander, our White House Chief of Staff. (That being the subtle foretelling of things to come. 👇🏻🎤💥
This movie is largely forgotten, which is such a shame. They don't make comedies like this anymore.
After Ghostbusters, this is Ivan Reitman's best flick for me.
..yup, so under rated too,, one of the best of the 90's
They still make some good movies. But the will to make original ideas has gone, since it's risky. Marvel made so so much money that everyone else feels like they have flopped.
They can’t make these anymore. We’re not allowed to be funny. We have to be woke and politically correct.
@@pauldavis9387 Could not agree with you more Paul. You cannot even tell a good, harmless joke these days without offending somebody. Darn shame!
"Don't touch anything on that desk" makes me laugh every time.
Best line in this scene. 😂😂
Oh yeah! Everyone knows what happens after you fire somebody...they will act up!
@@Sweetheart-dd1rk Actually, I thought her: "Oh Bob" was actually the best line! It put him in his place, which was 2 whole ladder lengths lower than he thought it was!
“Don’t touch anything on that desk” is also used in “The Enemy Within” which is a remake of “Seven Days in May”. Don’t know if the line was used in the original and was an inspiration, or if it’s just a coincidence.
I like how Frank Langella comes in and basically snarls and growls at Dave like a dog, and Dave gives him a "go on, get" like you'd tell a bad dog to leave.
The way she says, “Oh......Bob.” Brilliant and savage.
Yessssss!
Ellen: "I'm sorry, I thought we were alone."
Dave: "Oh, he's already gone."
Dave’s double negative: I’m not nobody.
Frank Langella nailed this roll. He was amazing!
He's a great actor. He played a mean Dracula back in the day.
He is a great actor period.
He not only nailed that "roll", he buttered it!
ROLE, not ROLL. Acting ROLE. Sushi ROLL.
@@mjremy2605 apparently witty humor exceeds your mental capacity.
Poor Bob! He thought Dave would be easy to control and manipulate until Dave started doing what he believed was best and right for the country instead of what Bob wanted him to do. Don't you just hate people who have a conscience and are independent thinkers? To his credit though Frank Langella was always good portraying the villain.
My family would say this ALL THE TIME whenever we went anywhere together. It was a running joke that I still do to this day, lol. “We’re walking, we’re walking...” 🤣
"We're walking... he's walking..."
Same! I busted this out on a co-worker, but with a different verb (we're copying, we're copying...) And he had no idea what this movie was. 😝
He’s Walking, he’s walking. He’s Bob Alexander, our White House Chief of Staff. (That being the subtle foretelling of things to come. 👇🏻🎤💥
"What an honor..really..for all of you." Such a great line and delivery lol
The way he was walking looked like he urgently needed to reach the bathroom.
@@HariSeldon913 He's walking like he wants to break into a dead run, but his dignity won't permit it.
Back in the day, people still had some reverence and respect for folks working in The White House. Nowadays that mansion is flocked with so many jackos and clowns that is downright embarassing (both Republicans and Democrats).
That angry ass walk! 😂😂😂😂
I just realized the guide is talking about character and dignity as Bob walks in, traits he completely lacks 😄
The scene where she comes in all smiles and pecks him on the face, his look after that is priceless.
Ms. Weaver is a stunner both in looks & acting ability!
+garrison968 hey u know what is the moral lesson of this movie?
+Elaine Snow hey
u know what is the moral lesson of this movie?
That was the moment he crapped his pants
I can’t wait to see them in The Good House
I love Langella's forceful push behind his words; "you're lint! You're a flea! You're a blip!"
Eric Wendt His inner Skeletor came out in those words.
He's comedically psychotic.
Is that what he said, frankly all I heard after replaying the clip a hundred times was " you're a wooof... You're wooof"
A true narcissist
It's hilarious
Kevin Kline and Sigourney Weaver are so good as an on-screen couple! I love them both
+Margie Sabina hey u know what is the moral lesson of this movie?
Wonderful
I love how he sees not only that he's fired but that the couple is no longer estranged!
Total pros
Susan Weaver
"Oh... Bob...." Best smackdown ever.
Damn straight. It's just the non aggressive tone, which is seriously aggressive. Just like a depth charge at 300 metres below.
Sigourney, did that blatant," Oh...Bob" Perfectly. Her eyes, voice nonchalantly passing him off. I love it!
And the way the both turn and look at him.
"We're walking, we're walking..."
"Oh! Bob." Such subtle disdain.
"Don't touch anything on that desk "🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bob as soon as he inserted him as president really lost all leverage. He can't just say he's not really the president since the whole idea of putting Dave in that spot was his idea.
I love it when Dave announces his shelter budget and Bob actually tries to "pull rank" on him at the cabinet meeting. Dave turns to him and says "Yes?" And Bob backs down! 😆
Yeah how crazy is that. Being beaten at your own game. Dave had all Chess Pieces to his advantage and favor. He is the president it would be more damaging and scandalous to not only reveal but explain that whole shenanigans. Yeah Dave goes down so is Bob and horribly.
You’re fired, No you’re fired! Fine!
Checkmate
“You can’t kill the President.”
“He’s not the President. He’s a regular person. I could kill a hundred regular people!” - 😂
This movie reflects its era so well. The Cold war is over and with it the paranoia. The only threat is represented by overambitious types. There is a certain optimism.
“Don’t touch anything on that desk.” LOL!
Sounds like a line Bill Murray would deliver.
"I'm gonna get you a nice fruit basket... I'm gonna miss him!"
@@MichaelLee-tt7gm
“Then dickless here....
Sorry, that’s just what I heard.”
We need somebody like this in the White House for the past 60 years. A president that really cares about his people and does everything to help his people and not line their pockets. It just seems like all politicians are corrupt. No matter if they’re right or left!!
No lies detected
"It just seems like all politicians are corrupt."
And yet, that is what voters choose consistently.
Maybe, just maybe, (hear me out on this) cuz that is what they want?
It's that way intentionally. Presidents in reality don't have as much power as it seems. They're all controlled by the elites in this country.
The issue is that POTUS doesn't make the laws or set the budget. They approve or veto laws that end up on their desk after going though the legislative branch. POTUS and office can advocate for laws to be made something can end up on the desk for signature.
@@bugwar5545 Rigged elections have consequences.
My favourite of all times!!! When I'm depressed, I watch this movie and the cobwebs go! To me, it's just the very best!!! ♥️
Don't touch anything on that desk ...
yeah, they recruited him, trained him and was a successful experiment, Problem is, well for Alexander he never saw that coming, Dave was at a good position, He learned the whole President of the United States Deal, also firing him and had his surroundings well-backed, like we saw Alexander was trying to get Dave out of the way, he forgot he knows the laws and regulations also threatening him that he would the press everything, Dave knew how to position his Chess Pieces. That ought to teach all those politicians, be careful who you recruit or ask for help, they'll learn your game and end up beating you IN YOUR OWN GAME LOL.
@@javieranguiano4654 It wasn't so much he learned to be a President, because anyone who graduated from high school should know the basics of government. It was more that he actually cared and found out more in detail about what the President handles.
The way Bob stomps through the hallways remind me of his introduction in Master of the universe as skeletor.
TOUR GUIDE: "We're walking. We're walking."
PRESIDENT: "Bob, you're walking."
Always thought this was a great movie. I am not a movie aficionado, but I do like a Kevin Kline movie. The supporting cast was great too. The fact that Sigourney Weaver and my first wife could have been twins was always a plus.
The epic angry walk!
"We're walking we're walking....he's walking..."
Looked like he had to urinate badly and the bathroom was such a long ways away.
Hahaha, my wife and say that's a "walk of purpose".
Awesome when he realized they teamed up,he was not expecting that at all
I'd forgotten just how funny and wonderful this film is.
Frank Langella Played SKELETOR in "Masters of the Universe"
He played a president(well ex president) as Nixon in Frost/Nixon.
He also played a pirate captain in Cutthroat Island. What is your point?
I never thought the phrase "you're fired" could actually be made to sound Presidential.
Bob failed to realize he could not control the situation he created.
Don't touch anything on that desk.
To play the Bob Alexander role, you’ve got to practice being shocked.
The look on his face at 2:06.
Hahaha
That look on Bob's face when he realizes that his plan to run the country from the shadows has crumbled to dust and there isn't anything that he can do about it without implicating himself.
2:08. One of the FEW moments in history where you can see, hear, smell, taste AND touch the confusion of a man on the screen.
“Don’t touch anything on that desk.” Lmao.
Bob could face serious prison time if he or Dave revealed the switch.
That's the whole point. That's what's so great about it
@@dartmada9733 Besides, Bob would be in far more trouble than Dave.
@@THOMASINTHE1980S yes that's the whole point
"Bob Alexander, what an honor to all of you". Baby, you have no idea. :D
Out of all the great scenes of this movie, I think this one might be the best. Sheeeeesh! Cracks me up after dozens of viewings...
Such a wonderfully acted scene by all
One of my favorite political presidential movies ever.
Yes, mine too, along with " The American President"! 😎👍

I can't believe that Bonnie Hunt got such a small role in this movie. She's awesome!
She also played Charles Gordon's (RIP) wife in the "Beethoven" films.
@@Madbandit77 Grodin * RIP
Yeah I love Bonnie Hunt. She is great in everything she does, Jumanji, Jerry McGuire.
Ivan Reitman did exec produced the _Beethoven_ films and Charles Grodin also cameos in this as Murray. Let's not forget Arnold too 🍩
And she owned the scene
0:17 Bob reminds me of Doyle Lonnegan there with his walk
Definitely one of my favorite movies!!!
Look at the coloration of Bob's necktie. It's almost identical to a king snake's coloring pattern. Maybe an intentional allusion to his snake-like personality?
I loved this movie as a kid. ❤️
Sigourney looks regal as the First Lady. Love this movie!
This is so relevant right now
Frank Langella is a master at facial expressions.
Cool - A conspiracy within the conspiracy.
That is such a great movie. Way underrated.
“Don’t touch anything on that desk”
One of my favorite movies
"What an honor, really- for all of you."
I'm waiting for Frank Langella to turn himself into a bat and fly away.
I quote Frank's line frequently, LOL!
Such a great movie.......
your coup d'etat has failed Bob
Sigourney Weaver in this movie is probably the most attractive woman I've ever seen.
Preach it brother!
You need to watch Galaxy Quest!
What a nice movie it was , I loved it so much .
A surprisingly good movie. I didn't expect much from the trailer, just some kind of boilerplate comedy. But there are so many nice little touches in this one that make it just right.
This scene is sooooo goooood
That’s what I called someone beating you at your own game. Bob Alexander found, trained and showed him the ropes and ends of the game and then Dave simply did as he was told and took the right steps and fired him with everything being to his favor. Who would have thought how things worked out. Alexander got fired and frustrated and upset about not being able to do nothing about it. That’s crazy how tables turn sometimes and got the better.
We’re walking and we’re stopping hahahaha
I can't find a clip of when Weaver and Kline play their parts in the closing scene when "Dave" is running for office from grass-roots.
2:57
3 really good actors.
That “schmuck” grin after she kisses him!
Probably the 2nd best scene of the movie.
Amazing movie!!
In the movie, the name of the President is Bill Mitchell. My uncle's name was William Terry Mitchell. I've always regretted that he did not live long enough to see this movie.
I loved this movie
I adore Bonnie Hunt. My absolute favorite tour guide :)
We re ' walking We re 'walking We re 'walking OK I get IT !!!!!!! We re 'walking
I love Langella in this and Frost/Nixon.
Bob is the American Sir Humphrey Appleby!
Dave kovic would make an excellent president!
A very good movie!
Just wondering are they allowed to record in there i always thought it was banned but that guys swinging that camera aall over the joint i know its just a movie but im not sure if yiu are allowed to record or take photos unless yiu were allowed before 9/11 or something?
Was that Bonnie Hunt at the beginning as the tour guide?
"We are delighted you all are visiting the White House today..."
That angry walk is so funny. 0:23 and 0:30 rofl xD

LOLOL what a most timeless and priceless clip indeed!!! already downloaded it to my fav's on my You Tube Channel lolol thx so much for sharing>>>>!!!!!
i cant believe how modern and advanced the world was back in the ancient world of 1993, like they even had a modern system of government with a president just like now, wow....
Oooh. Bob
This scene is Bob realizing the Getty quote;
"If you owe the bank $100 that's your problem. If you owe the bank $100 million, that's the bank's problem."
There is no chance the man was not channeling pure Sir Humphrey in that moment.
we're walking, we're walking..............................
Bob Alexander reminds me of Lloyd Bentsen
The tour guide is from inside out.
We're walking, we're walking...and we're stopping...
How annoying

Bob...😊
I just had a thought that got me all warm and fuzzy. I imagined Dave firing Donald Trump. I love the irony behind this scene, with Bob Alexander being fired by the guy he hired to impersonate the president.
Don Winslow this is why you should not attempt a coup d'etat
This is how you do a coup, then get couped back
i recognize the pee pee walk when i see it
