- In this video I take out my newly aquired Mamyia RB67 for a test drive. After many years of wanting to get into medium format photography, I found a great deal on ebay and decided to jump into it, taking it through the paces of my normal workflow. At the same time, I came across an abandoned theater in San Clemente, California. Abandoned buildings can be photographic gold. How did this camera perform on my first outing?

Hi JD. Thanks for your sharing your exploits on Medium Format. Analogue photography is where it is. I look forward to your next update. Good luck.
Thanks :)
Thanks for the video! The RB is such a fun camera…
hey love the vid! I'm out of OC too i'd love to go shoot some day!
Hit me up at john@johndoukasphotography.com
Great video, I was curious on what tripod you use
Hi. The legs are Benro carbon fiber. The head is a Manfrotto 701 video head, which I found to be quite stable.
Hey John, I’ve got an RB-67 too and need a CLR, can you recommend a repair shop? I’m in SoCal. Thanks
Nice journey John , subbed ....Malc
Hi John. The haze from the lens ,what is causing it is it in the lens ? or is it a coating problem ?
Hi. Turns out it was separation of inner lens elements, which was not repairable. The repair tech found another lens that had good glass (but dented body) and swapped the glass. From there I sort of had a new-ish Frankenstein lens…but the glass was beautiful.
@@JohnDoukasPhotography thanks John .I have just bought 2 cameras from 2 different sources with several lenses my object was to set up a camera outfit with the best possible components I could source as a work horse. Next step hit the gym to build up my muscles lol.😎
@@johnjewell219 Cool! The RB67 is a beast. I used it for a while but got lazy using it because of the weight. I sold it and eventually got a Hasselblad. It's been bittersweet as I think the Mamiya optics are a little better,
Where did you get that cool zone system scale for your phone.
spinwriter I found it on google and saved it to my phone
At 7:47, you said 1/10 of a second but your shutter speed sounded like 1-second.
Yeah, he even said it said "1, whatever that means." I think it means 1 second.
How do you like the light metered viewfinder?
eggr17ify I like it a lot. Waist-level viewfinders can be fun, but in my opinion annoying, since the image appears reversed.
What tripod did you use?
Greg McKnight hi Greg. The legs are some Manfrotto aluminum legs. The head is a video fluid head, a Manfrotto 501 or something.
get a new lens man my god!
thecooldude71 I did. It was a Frankenstein job by transplanting pristine glass into a better lens body.
I'm more of a canon man myself
Random Street Theater With digital I’m also a Canon guy.
@@JohnDoukasPhotography I haven't used film for maybe ten years but still have my old film cameras. I guess I'm not into it that much.
@@ICE9RLN0 I started shooting in 1970 and switched to digital in about 2001. Just recently I pulled my old Hasselblad 500C out and had so much fun that I have purchased two more lenses for. I also stumbled onto a real bargain and purchased 3, yes 3, RB67 Pro S's with 90mm, 180mm and 250mm lenses. I should receive them in a couple of days. Should be able to get one good body and lens out of that I hope and if I'm really lucky they will all be great. In addition unknown to me my wife got me a Mamiya M645 with 55mm and 150mm glass. So I guess I'm really back in the film business. Love your images too. The boots were really a neat find.
@@roberttangen3508 yeah, well, as John has mentioned "film is cheap, shoot away" development ain't that cheap and most of us can't afford the old film units. Then again, I have a friend who wants me to extract his pictures from a burnt out computer.
Canon shooters must really hate their lives.
