    My Hungarian grandma passed away a few years ago and she had all her recipes in her head. I’m super glad Oma shares these with the world. I get sad when making these recipes, but feel like I’m cooking with my own Grandma. So glad to be able to get this experience through the internet. Love you Oma!!!!

    I love this channel. It brings back memories about how my dear mother cooked authentic Hungarian cooking. What a wonderful lady you are and such an amazing cook. You're accent reminds me of my mother who I lost when I was only 15 years old. You are very special and I am beginning to cook the meals my mom and dad made for me and it's because of you.
    Thank you soooooo much for all you do. We all appreciate you very much!

    This is pretty much how I was taught, just mix everything together, no needing to cook the rice since it's going to sit in the liquid, just couldn't remember if there was any seasonings I was missing. 1 thing I was taught with the stuffing mix, was we added parmesan cheese to our mix, like a helpful binder. Never taught about parboiling the peppers, that was new for me, but I enjoyed watching your video, thank you oma, very much appreciated

    I am certainly going to use this recipe. It looks wonderful. Add some little new 🥔 , small onions, carrots and mushrooms. Sprinkle a tablespoon of brown sugar in the sauce before you cook it. It is supercalafragilisticexpialidocious! Thanks for the v8 idea I’ve made stuffed peppers for 50 years and never thought of V8 juice. GOD bless you!

    I've never thought to mix the meat with the rice in this recipe - I've always did it either with rice or with meat. This very good version opened me to other tastes as well. Thanks you for that.

    • @melindat2155
      @melindat2155 Před 2 lety

      My mama always did that with rice didn't cook it separately ..but she also put Vegeta in it and never used green it's biter or yellow it's
      I also learnt the cheap way if red peppers to expensive I would do say four stuffed and rest roll in ball and place them around then cut up a few red peppers medium square and spread them around ..and it works and tastes just as good ..also I do that with stuffed cabbage if I can't find the pickled cabbage in pkt .. I roll the meat into balls and spreads sauerkraut as I'm layer laying in a pot and that's the cheap way and tastes great the same ..just don't have the meat raped in cabbage 👍

  • @suz567
    @suz567 Před 4 lety

    We used to make the meat mixture for stuffed peppers and cabbage rolls at the same time and cooked both, so there was the other dish which kept in the refrigerator until the evening after next. Or later when we had a freezer we would freeze these for future meals.

    Good recipe and I like all your suggestions/recommendations but I wonder why you don't add sour cream at the end. My mother learned from her mother who was from Bihor in Transylvania. I think in Hungarian it's called Erdei... and she always sour cream at the end for stuffed peppers but never with the stuffed cabbages...

    Something else I forgot to mention: my mother never used the dark green peppers like you use. If she did, my father would file for divorce! She used only the home grown or bought from the farm stands, the pale green, thin skinned Hungarian peppers. They were by far the best.... I've seen other videos on her of Hungarians or Croatians using them...

    • @Jencifer13
      @Jencifer13 Před 7 lety +1

      V8 is just vegetable juice - tomato, celery, carrot, onion, parsley (I don't remember all the ingredients, I haven't had it in a long time, but those are the main ones). If you have a juicer, you could just make a juice from those vegetables. I think this would work with tomato juice, or tomato juice mixed with tomato sauce. I make mine with tomato sauce and tinned diced tomatoes and get a lovely result..

      Home cooked fresh meal is always cheaper than a fast-food junk. Just take the recipe and calculate how much is it to feed 4-6 people and compare the quality. Once you have the basic recipe, every single extra portion is like 1$ for full meal. OK it takes 40minutes but those are minutes well spend and actually those 40 minutes you are paid like a lawyer.

    • @blacksunshine5758
      @blacksunshine5758 Před 5 lety +3

      Spadger McTeagle - Its a vegetable tomato juice which is very good & flavorful. If you can't find it, regular tomato juice will work but add a couple cubes of beef or veggie bullion, garlic powder and pepper so it's not so bland. Or use a jar or 2 of pasta sauce thinned out with a little water.

      +Manolis Levendis It's vegetable juice - The original V8 is made mainly from water and tomato concentrate, and reconstituted vegetable juice blend: water and concentrate of eight vegetables, specifically: beets, celery, carrots, lettuce, parsley, watercress, spinach, and tomato.
