  • This was an AUsome flight of the eagle during the National Anthem at the Auburn vs Oregon BCS National Championship game. Even though I don't think is was our Auburn eagle, notice the "WAR EAGLE" rally cry right after the conclusion of the National Anthem. What a flight! What a game!

    The fact that there was no applause for the national anthem, but just a WARRRRRRR EAGLE for the flight.. simply amazing. I believe in Auburn, and love it.

    Being there, I really felt like Auburn was the home team. Over twice as many Oregon fans, playing "All I Do Is Win", and the eagle flying. It was awesome!

      Diehard Michigan fan here. I'll echo what you said. When you see that eagle fly around the stadium and hear the "War Eagle" cry, it gives you chills -- in a good way!

    Vols fan here but this is one of the most awesome spectacles in all of sport. I've seen it in person at Jordan Hare during the Bo Jackson days and it is as spind tinling now as it was way back then. Auburn U; You picked a great mascot and I have absolutely no clue how this bald Eagle found it's way to it's handler. I am absolutely confounded by this video. How did this bird pick out it's handler amongst such a large crowd? Amazing.

      1stly, the answer to the question is that he is on a pedestal with food, and secondly, he is not our mascot, but a tradition. We’re the Auburn Tigers who yell war eagle.

    I was at that game. I was honestly a bit surprised they let that flight happen because even if it wasn’t Auburn’s Eagle it was Auburn’s tradition. It seemed like an unfair advantage, and I’m an Auburn fan saying that. Even so, that flight was freaking awesome. Hard to not appreciate a spectacle like that.

    • @malteseheart

      I believe that was 'Challenger' who flew at some pro games. It was not Auburn's 'Spirit' who is now retired. Independence 'Indy" Auburn's newest bald eagle has flown some of the Philadelphia Eagles games this year. I am assuming Challenger is retired? I don't know much about his/her history.

    WAR EAGLE:::::::It's the battle cry and the fight song. When we greet other Auburn fans it's WAR DAMN EAGLE, or just WAR EAGLE. Aubie is the mascot, Nova is the battle cry. In the Civil War, a soldier from Alabama found a wounded eagle. Several years later, the soldier (a former AU student) returned to college as a faculty member bringing the bird with him. After AU won their first football game in 1892 vs UGA the eagle got loose, circled the field, eventually fell and died.

    My grand dad used this as an example why he doesn't like people from Alabama... he said bringing the eagle 2,000 miles to fly before the game was just showing-off and typical of them. I think gramps needs to lighten up...the bird was cool.

    • @dantheman1984
      @dantheman1984 Před 9 lety +1

      I'm pretty sure the Auburn fans didn't bring this eagle. That was done by who ever was over the national championship. Auburn has a golden eagle and this is clearly a bald eagle. Tell your gramps to get his facts straight.

    • @freshlook8268

      dantheman1984
      Better get your facts straight. Auburn University in Alabama has a national reputation for caring for Eagles with their vet school. Injured Bald Eagles all over the USA are taken to Auburn for treatment. I guess you failed to notice the landing of the Eagle? Notice the War Eagle yell by the Auburn fans as he landed? An Eagle makes a flight at the opening of all Auburn home games...it makes an Auburn home game... as cool as it gets.

    @youbeonaboat Před 7 lety +3

    To reiterate what a few others have said, that wasn't Auburn's bird. The Arizona Cardinals and the University of Phoenix Stadium do eagle flights fairly often before games as part of the performance of the Star Spangled Banner.

  • @Cblake92
    @Cblake92 Před 12 lety +4

    What?! I go to Auburn and volunteer with the southeastern raptor center. That is not Spirit, that is Challenger. He is another trained free flight bald eagle. The only time any of Auburn's three eagles has flown outside of Auburn was Tiger. She flew in the 2001 winter Olympics. Also, Nova is only a year younger than spirit(who is 14), and Nova is definitely the better flyer. He's more aggressive. Plus the crowd doesn't really distract them at all.

    I gotta say this again. This isn't even our EAGLE. This same eagle flew over the Tostitos Bowl and several NFL games last year. It's from some company that does pregame entertainment (Guy who parachutes in, etc) They honestly pretty much copied Auburn, and were picked to do the championship game before the season started.
    An amazing coincidence. I still get goosebumps whenever I see that eagle, there completely of chance, get the "WAAAAAA.." treatment. Amazing coincidence, amazing season. WDE

  • @grundian
    @grundian Před 13 lety

    I mean this still chokes me up. It's life if Florida State played in a national championship game and a guy dressed like Chief Osceola just HAPPENED to throw a spear down in an identical way, or if Oklahoma was and the halftime show just HAPPENED to have a wagon in it. It's not our eagle, Nova, it's just one EXACTLY like it that does the same thing. Unbelievable. Maybe it's fate?
