Majstorska cesta, beautiful mountain road / Velebit mountain in Croatia.
Majstorska cesta is a state road on Velebit mountain in Croatia that connects Sveti Rok in Lika with Obrovac in Dalmatia and was the first modern road junction of southern and northern Croatia. It was inaugurated in 1832 and was built in very difficult conditions. It was said to have been built by breaking through living rocks. It has a total length of 41 kilometers, it got its name because of the construction method which was advanced and very difficult for the conditions of that time. The name of the road derives from the German word “meisterstück” which means masterpiece. The maximum slope of this road at the time of construction was up to 5.5 percent, which was so advanced for that time and which can be seen by the fact that this slope is in accordance with modern regulations for road construction.
Majstorska cesta je državna cesta u Hrvatskoj koja povezuje Sveti Rok u Lici s Obrovcem u Dalmaciji i bila je prva suvremena cestovna spojnica južne i sjeverne Hrvatske. Svečano je otvorena 1832. godine a građena je u vrlo teškim uvjetima. Govorilo se da je građena probijanjem živih stijena. Ukupne je dužine 41 kilometar, ime je dobila zbog načina gradnje koji je za ondašnje uvjete bio napredan i vrlo težak. Ime ceste vuče podrijetlo od njemačke riječi "meisterstück" koja znači remek-djelo. Maksimalni nagib ove ceste u vremenu izgradnje bio je do 5,5 posto, što je toliko bilo napredno za ono doba a što se vidi po tome što je taj nagib sukladan i sa suvremenim propisima za gradnju prometnica.
