      I completely agree with you man, the Genesis soundtrack sounds more menacing than the SNES soundtrack and is therefore the best soundtrack in my opinion. So to get the sounds from the SNES version that weren't in the Genesis version as well as the Genesis soundtrack is literally the best of both worlds.

    I can't believe the developers didn't make sure to get the correct arcade ice sounds in there. If they would've compressed (just a little) all the sound effects they added in they could've got the remaining missing sound effects (Kitana's fan, Jax's ground pound, Scorpion's spear, Reptile's acid & force ball, Kintaro's roar, Kahn's laugh, growling trees, etc) in here. Definitely a good upgrade over the Genesis though

The intro screens & the few remaining sound effects missing from the arcade would've easily fit on there. Heck, they probably could've put Kano & Sonya in as secret playable fighters & still had room to spare. Probe got 32 megs to work with on this & still couldn't definitively surpass the SNES version like it should've. Visual resolution on the fighters is better than SNES & they got a lot of the missing colors in to match SNES in that regard, but the 32X should've easily been able to replicate the arcade visuals. SNES backgrounds were better. Might've been that Probe just didn't know what they were doing. The other question is- what if Sculptured Software had done the 32X version? Probably would've easily been the best MK2 port & kept the 32X in business awhile longer. But instead, it only improved the Genesis game enough to compete with the SNES

It would have been a much better idea for the devs of the 32x version to ignore the Genesis version and instead use the higher quality assets from the arcade version, use the arcade version as a template instead of the inferior Genesis version.

      @@clarenceboddicker6679 Cartridge size is the reason the 32x looks the way its does. Just adding the mega CD is easy for CD music (redbook audio) but the mega CD doesn't have a lot of RAM. 6 Mbit RAM (programs, pictures, and sounds), 128 Kbit RAM (CD-ROM cache). The 6Mbits of RAM is approx. 750000 Bytes. The 32X also includes 256 kilobytes of random-access memory (RAM), along with 256 kilobytes of video RAM. Saturn has 2MB of RAM. 1.5MB of VRAM. This means the Saturn should be able to have the arcade graphics. Sega 32x has a limited VRAM size. So letting the mega drive do the backgrounds and the 32x the sprites makes sense. Mega Drive adds another 64KB of VRAM. With a main RAM 64 KB. You could add RAM to the cartridge but you can see how this get expensive. The mega drive also has to be able to address and access all the ROM and RAM available. There is a limited address space.
      The Midway T Unit
      All the data was on 24 4mb roms or 12 8mb roms. That would require a 96Mb of data to be stored approx. The maximum mega drive/32x cartridge is 32Mb before bankswitching is required. These days you can get cartridges upto 256Mb ROM. Even with all the game assets and the music as redbook on the CD. You can see that its not an easy port if possible at arcade quality.

    Even if the Genesis port was exactly this, it wouldn't end the console wars. Folks still (wrongly) sayin' SNES is better🙄

    • @TheTrueBro
      @TheTrueBro Před 4 lety +6

      SNES version is closer to arcade version, gameplay wise, because of the amount of animation frames it has. Genesis version has some weird stuff going on, including some combos that are not possible in the original arcade release, making it feel like a different game (sort of). Not a bad version, but it's understandable why people prefer SNES version.
      It's like the Genesis version of SF2SCE. Since it plays (and sounds) more similar to the original arcade game than the SNES version (precisely for the same reason, animation frames and a better adapted engine), that version is superior, gameplay wise.

      I have been playing the SNES and 32X versions simultaniously over the past few years. I think from a gameplay perspective the 32x is slightly better than the SNES. The 32X - and even the Genesis version - is more responsive than the SNES. It doesnt have issues in terms of acknowledging hits which can be an issue with the Nintendo version sometimes.
