Would love to see a less gamery aesthetic. Minisforum usually has offerings that are more sleek so I hope they release a version that's more sleek.
It's pretty sleek with rgb disabled in bios. Becomes matte black side
Minisforum yet again knocking it out of the park. lol. I really love how much they've been making genuinely compelling mini-pcs at such fair prices, I'm excited to see how they evolve and grow over the coming years because it sure doesn't look like they plan to stop anytime soon. lol
This CPU in a mini workstation package (Similar to the MS-01) would be a dream homelab setup, especially if they give us dual USB 4 to establish a ring network for Proxmox clustering.
"This is a brick of compute"... You know what bricks are for right? Time to build a House of Compute! And it's probably still cheaper than a Supreme brick house too...
I would like to see more of these mini pc but flatter or flat-ish. People sometimes hang them behind a monitor to make it an all in one. I usually like to attach them on the back of a drawing monitor to make it a "portable" art computer. Kinda like a Surface but actually usable for art and not too expensive
Yeah, I had that same question. I was hoping this could be stored in a horizontal position and not necessarily a vertical one. I'm guessing it can't?
Probably not due to how the cooling system works. For what you're hoping I believe the Khadas Mind would be more appropriate, however it is far more costly with both the main unit and the GPU add on.
my guy, you are rocking these videos! So well cut and produced.
Nobara is great, I'm running it in a linux VM on proxmox with virt-gl (no passthrough, so the APU is available for other vms) and it is super smooth
MoB Mobile on Desktop is an awesome trend.
I think they missed the mark with the 7600, they should have used the 7900m and I would have spent 1500.
this is a much better review than the other one I saw today. Thanks! I would like to buy this as soon as I can find the buy button. :)
Lookin good, Slendell. You are an inspiration.
About the G7 . . . that has _considerably more_ performance than I honestly _need._
I must have one.
Nobara is amazing, I just switched to it from Windows and I was amazed how smooth it was. Every Steam game I have tried just worked, some even better than on Windows (Fallout 4 for example). Even most games from Epic and GoG through Lutris worked. WoW works great too even without any official support. Nobara needs more recognition, thank you for mentioning it. I tried Pop before Nobara and the experience is not even close.
I've also recently switched to Nobara. All the same game experienced as noted by OP but also on my Framework 13 AMD sleep works like a champ. 1% or less over night, basically instant wake. GE and crew knows what's up!
What is the best version for games? says there is 3 versions of Nobara. Thank you.
I'm on nobara since last November and I still love it
I tried to use Nobara and it seemed like bloatware and it seemed to have doubled up a bunch of tools, it was weird, everything was doubled and running at the same time making my system lag and there were 2 updaters that seemed to update the system incorrectly, it was a big mess..
I see Zorin, Bazzite, and Nobara as the holy trinity of getting people to switch to Linux right now lol. At least in my gaming biased friend group. I love how far and how quickly Linux gaming has come
The only thing I'm really bummed about is the 2.5GBE NIC. If they had made a 5/10GB port, that would have made this an absolutely awesome productivity machine. Especially since there's no PCIE slot to slap a card into.
My thoughts too. Pretty awesome that a laptop cpu can keep up with a 3950x desktop. Having 4Gbit internet and 10gbe networking. So it would be cool for all sorts of things, But It can't replace my stuff that needs a fast network...
"Good Job. I like it". I think that's all that needs to be said.
It’s a good job from miniforum. But if it could offer a windows 11 or Linux pre installed, it could sell even better. I will pay for extra charge just for the convenience.
missed opportunity : with a power brick and stand like that they should have built the PSU into the stand.
having a powerbrick is cheating anyway
I think current solution is easer to replace if your dog decide to chew on the cable or you simply not planning to use it with stand. or need to replace power brick for any reason. and its less waste considering that you will need to waste sometime one or another. psu can be used with other systems or stand as magnetick tool holder but there you put psu not compatible with anything else or thy you need magnetick tool holder with useless power brick?
Lol noob
Always This. ⬆️
While true, it's probably more expensive. And bulky. Besides, the brick heat can be shoved to the side, which is really good. And saves on heat.
When devices are small enough, i think it's just smart. Not cheating.
Might have missed it, but I didn't hear if ECC SO-DIMMs were supported? And obviously, I don't mean "works in non-ecc mode", but actually as ECC.
What about an occulink on the 5th gen M.2 slot? So upgrade the Gen 4 to a 4TB Samsung 980pro and the ram to 64GBs 5200M/T and the occulink solution? Also would you disable the discrete GC at that time? Run a full Linux OS and maybe a small OC on the chip, and you'd have, what another 5 years of life? Maybe 6? I'd like to hear your thoughts as well on fan replacement or upgrade ability. Can the platform reasonably deal with a fan replacement or will you have to be a modder and void the warranty?
Nearly did a spit take when I misread the title and thought Afroman was in the mini PC biz now
I'll take the Lemon Pound Cake model, please.
@@masmullin "I was gonna sell some PCs, but then I got high"
get well, i hear the summer flue in your voice.
Does it support 4k 120Hz through HDMI 2.1? If so this would be an awesome media center for TVs with the ability to game lightly at 4k or upscaled 1080p
Yes, up to 144hz 4k
The Strix Halo version of this will be awesome. 16 Zen 5 cores, NPU and much better GPU.
The GPU won't be much better
Strix Halo by the numbers is around 4070 Mobile, which can perform slower or faster than the 7600M XT depending on the test. I definitely wouldn't consider this at $1200 now this close to new chips launching though.
Yo I looked at that box at first and thought ‘no duh! dude I’ve seen those CPU’s in way smaller boxes’
No this is a whole computer - wow.
I'm using this little PC for few days now, with Windows 11. Linux bluethoot not working (new Wi-Fi 7 card, Wi-Fi working it's OK only Bluetooth issue) and few other quirks I have. Waiting for next month to buy 2TB nvmie pcie 5 for linux to more test. CPU are very good also GPU. You will hear this little monster on IDLE if you keep your pc on the desk close to your ears, but isn't that loud like every gaming laptop. You can change fans speed on the bios and that what I'm done and now temp is good and is silent when web-browsing, video watching, listen music and watch youtube.
12:28 Wait what??? I'm watching this on an x99 with E5-2699 v4 CPU!
Does anyone know if Minisforum is going to launch a new mainboard this year? I'd like to use one of their boards for a SFF build + something like the Atomman for a homelab. Not sure if I want to go with their AMD board if Zen 5 is launching next week.
It's more like in between a micro and mini form factor, I'd say micro is more appropriate because if you were looking for a small mini to stuff in your carry on travel bag, this is not what you are looking for, but you could still stuff it in I suppose.
Would prefer to spend budget (power and financial) on better GPU rather than 16 cores.
I like the videos on the high-performance mini-pcs, but I recently bought a cheap (£190) Minisforum Venus thing and it’s one hell of an upgrade from a raspberry pi. Comes with an N100/16/512GB, 2x 2.5Gb Ethernet ports and about 3 fast USB ports. For something that’s honestly idle most of the time (…even now that it’s running as an ADSB listener…) it’s pretty damn good, and I can’t justify spending large amounts on HDDs I don’t really need, although I’d love a proper NAS.
Great and informative video! If you had to choose, which Mini PC would you recommend, and why?
A: Minisforum AtomMan G7 PT
B: Minisforum AtomMan G7 Ti
I'd still prefer a heavy PC box with a car jack for moving around. In the coming years, I might look into a mini PC that I could mount at the back of the monitor for backup in case something breaks down.
Love this. Minisforum keeps goin
It is a strong mini pc with that CPU. From benchmarks it seems the 7945hx is pretty close to a 7900 (non x) according to cpumonkey. For audio and video work, if it really is not noisy at all, this seems like a strong option. Does it have Raid for the nvmes? I read it somewhere. Minisforum has very nice offerings at different pricepoints (barebones): 400usd, 600usd, 800usd and this one at 1000usd.
As far as Mini Pcs go, between Minisforum and Asrock (with their deskmini, deskmate and deskmeet), you have a lot of options and configurations. Can build hackintoshes if you want-need to, for 1/3 or 1/4 of the price of a comparably spec´d mac studio. Not too shabby
7945HX only has 610M not 780M. Anyway per the FAQ it uses the DGPU only anyway. RAM is only 5200Mhz and no USB4.
More performance while using less power I really love to see, and hope there is more of.
Somebody shrunk a Series S and part swapped it to run way faster. Neat! Alternatively- MinisForum has a BD790i (HX7790) with a PCIe 5.0 x8? gpu slot.
It's interesting the CPU is basically a desktop but hard-set to 65W efficiency mode. What is power consumption at wall with idle GPU full load CPU? I assume auto it will allows 75w TDP full time? Could make a mean Distributed Computing dense CPU farm
1000 USD is so steep, also wish they made a more graphics oriented product (especially considering the gamer aesthetic) with say a 7700 XT and an 8 core cpu for the same price (or less)
I bought a Minisforum Neptune HX80G with the 6600m (
How to source eventual fan replacements? That will be the 1 thing that would brick this ideally would last 10 years + nonstop but we'd need spare fans!
Still no dual lan minis forum
spiderhero is my favorite hero
was that an intellimouse pro on the desk next to your X299 machine?
Could you do a video on how this device works with Proxmox? I really would like an affordable Proxmox server for home lab use (no games, but I'd like Cuda cores for graphic/scientific software). I hear that the newer big/little processor architectures are a bit of a pain with Proxmox. 16 cores sounds irresistible!
12:30 Lol I still run a 4th gen i5 And was a gtx 660😢. I put 1080 ti, 32 GB of ram in it and an SSD a while ago and it runs ok. I really want a newer rysen system at sone point for the 1080Ti.
outstanding
Will it handle VR for Steam Machine like setup?
Very interesting
These would make awesome homelab servers - but WTF do they always make them with 2x SODIMMs, it limits the boxes to 96GB DDR5, and holy-hell the price of the 48GB SODIMMs is pretty insane... I was tempted by the bare-bones MB version, or the MS-01, but the same problem... Looks like I'll be sticking with the Optiplex's for a while..
very nice, how much?
999 usd for early bird pricing, 1249 regular
@@V3N0M381 999 for barebone 1200 for reviewed system
$1000 barebone, $1200 "equipped". Minisforum is making a healthy profit on these for sure.
If this would have been released 6 months ago, I would have bought it on the spot. But now I have a travel gaming rig based on Velka 3, 7600x and 6600xt. It's thicker, but I have a handle and integrated PSU. Also bigger fans (except PSU). Now, if somebody would just release an RX 7600 for the Velka3.
PS: I also tried with 4060 (6600 in this size was hard to find), but I use Ubuntu (X or Mate actually) and try to avoid nVidia, especially how it behaved when Starfield launched (again: Ubuntu; 2070 Super had the same performance as a LP RX6400 on 7600x and 5950x).
god what happened to gpu's? That silver radeon is friggin nice! I always wanted 2 of those for doing graphic design.
Would you say this could be an entry level Mac Studio alternative?
I love my MS-01, but I think it may need repasted or something. I've got Proxmox on it, and it idles at around 42C, not sure if that's high for this system or not. But if the CPU gets up to even 5% usage, the temp rises to 52 C and the fan becomes annoyingly loud. This doesn't seem normal to me.
That sounds perfectly reasonable.
Thanks for your video.
I have some questions:
1- Is the fan too loud for video editing?
2- I don't do gaming, but I do video editing and coding. Is this mini PC suitable for video editing and screen recording?
3- Is this 5200 DDR5 speed enough for keeping this mini PC for 5 years? I wish we had at least 6000 DDR5 ram.
Thanks
I just want an AMD laptop, 6 fast cores with a 7600m or similar for £800ish, But we don't get *any* AMD laptops here in the UK. It's like they don't want our money, You can buy one with an nvidia GPU or nothing, thats your choice.
Tuxedo laptops
@@DjVendetta Thanks but 1400Euro (so not GBP) for 16GB with an 8845( (8xZ4) and 7600mXT...
For the £100 less I can get an ASUS TUF Gaming A17 with a 7940HS (Pretty much the same Zen4 die) with an RTX4070.
I can get a 5600+3060 laptop for £700 (in budget) literally half that price and only sacrifice a small %.
Or under £600 refurbished.
So yeah, no entry level 6 core AMD laptops with iGPU.
Can you run a desktop on the igpu and pass through the 7600M to a vm? Like are the iommu groups ok for that to happen? How does it handle which plug controls which video signal?
My DDR5 trains after every reboot :D
0:43
Wii U unboxing (2013)
Nice video
I think they should release a budget one with a 7800hx / lower cost CPU and same GPU .. to use as a steam box with dual GPU
12:48 X299 is 7 years old. That's like 21 in Intel years.
Can't wait for the price to drop to 600 to 700
I got one of these. Does anyone know if these support 240hz refresh at 4k? In Ubuntu I’m only seeing 120hz. Haven’t checked windows yet but my cursory search of the internet is showing the 7600m doesn’t support 240hz at 4k, but I don’t understand why it wouldn’t. My old 2080ti sure does.
How would it hold up as a entry level "application server" like technotim recently built for his internal AI?
How abou Optane with PrimoCache? For that sweet responsiveness? Would it affect latencymon? Curius to see a video abou that
Up. And. A-dom.
The difference between a review and a paid advertisement is if they mention the price or not.
When we made this review, the price had not been revealed to us yet. We made it nearly a month ago when they gave us the product to review. ~Editor Autumn
@@Level1Techs Definitely makes sense, however I would have much prefered to hear Wendell say something like "we don't have a launch price for this at time of recording, if we have once it'll be on screen now" and be able to simply look over and see the information.
Actually, why isn't "the right price" a feature for all reviewed products? Look at a new laptop, review it, comment on limitations and benefits, and estimate its worth at $1500, and the MSRP is $1799.
Or is there a non-trivial issue there, such as "that estimated worth won't be valid in 6 months, and that could mislead people later on"?
Native oculink port would have been good
Is it posible to install Linux + Looking Glass, use the integrated graphics for Linux and the card for the VM ?
7945hx just rocks.
Wendell, Is be curious to know if the CPU or GPU could grab more a few more watts of power if the 610M were completely disabled?
999 is ok but doesn’t ship to my country. Bummer.
If only Nvidia had something like this on the market with DLSS.
Goddamn the HX 370 is a good chip, it's getting geekbech single 2779 multi 12939 vesus this chips 2792/16230 but in 28W not 120 XD feed it more power and cool it better and I bet at 50W it's overtaking this
a little beast
Do you think you could run this system laid now? Like you have it on your review
A THOOOOUUUUUUUUSAND BUCKS!?
I want one....
How does it compare to a desktop RTX4060 in terms of graphics performance?
How many points in Cinebench R23 multicore?
Dibs on the old X299! CZcams dibs rules dictate that it MUST now be given to me because i called dibs....these are just the rules im sorry...
im wondering if minisforum customer service is good. also if this is better than the rog nuc
even though it doesnt have oculink, have you tested out using an pcie 4.0 M.2 to PCIE x16 riser adapter and a desktop PSU for an eGPU?
why... it's already half as mobile as a laptop, now you want to lug around a eGPU with them keyboards, mouse and monitor?
@@CrumpetsNBiscuits nah, I can see it being useful for a HTPC setup if you don't have space for a full blown desktop or if you have family members that are picky about what's in the living room. Might end up being less expensive then an ITX build as well if you source everything from aliexpress
Are they going to release one based on Zen 5 at some point?
The price of the ASRock mini x600 8700g 2tb Samsung 990evo 32gb 6400ghz ram is about the same .?????? Does this have better performance then hx200g??
Da FAxQ you want external GPU, you got one already inside. I don't wanna additional box with GPU and freaking more cables. This computer should stand vertically during any tests and the way you tested how the cooling system is stupid.
gpu over x8 pcie4.0 or cpuz showing wrong?
a detailed test on Linux? please
Would be good for $900 with memory and storage, but $1200 is too much. You can get an Alienware gaming laptop with RTX 4070 for the same price.
Will this PC be good for content creation too?
Sucks there arent any USB4 ports
No way, you got a 690 vBIOS with GOP support for UEFI. I used to have a Zotac 680 2G which I got rid of because of no GOP support.
NUC ChatGPT Edition.
😮 1 stack for that
how many memory ram slots it has?
still using my gtx 670 :'(
Are these things secure though?
Was that an H440?
Does this mini pc has RTC alarm boot option in bios? To start pc at specific time?
Yes
@@Level1Techs thank you
Nice box how much does it cost?
How's the temperature sensor driver / detection status on Linux?
Still crappy?
#LMsensors_dumpsterfire:(
Linux really needs something like HWinfo to work and a working temperature display of CPU and GPU temps.
Windows does that right, but it spys on you. Not unlike Ubuntu mind you.
Both Windows and Linux have problems with special multi monitor setups or changing monitor setups.
In all cases you can never just right click on the active icon / window in the task bar and choose move to monitor x or even to the active monitor.
Can you make a tutorial on how to run open and free offline AI stuff on AMD GPUs and other X86 platforms?
WiFi 7 works on linux?
