    For the last few months I've absolutely loved your content. But I couldn't figure out why. I just assumed it was because I am also a fellow martial artist, but that just didn't feel like the main reason. And here recently, I've realized it's because of how much you remind me of my big brother. He went in the Air Force five or six years ago, and I haven't seen him in about three years. You're basically Nick (that's his name) if he was a martial artist. Seeing you really eases the pain, so thank you.

    One of the biggest martial arts myth here is that 'Martial arts is karate, taekwondo and kung fu "
    Forgetting the fact that mma, muay thai, lethwei, sambo, bjj, are martial arts
    All they know is karate, taekwondo and kung fu. And on top of that, they teach bare minimum needed. Like just the moves and not how to use them when needed.
    You just learn moves and exercise.

      People coming into the dojo claiming they're they're a street fighter. You can tell what these people want from a mile away. All they want to do is spar and hurt people. They would ask what day sparring was. I was in great shape when i was a sensei. At the beginning of class, we would workout. So on sparring days, we would just make to workout extremely difficult, just absolutely kill them. Just nonstop pushups, jumping jacks and burpees for 20-25 mins. So when sparring finally came around, i would only let them spar me. They would be so tired that they couldn't keep their hands up. I would just give them no time to rest and they wouldn't get what they wanted out of it, so they would just leave.

Do you want to have a wider stance, and faster, more agile movement? Choose Karate. There are many differences and I suggest you study them thoroughly, then you will probably get a good idea on what to pick. I wish you luck on your journey, and hopefully this comment helps.

    Regarding the street fighter matter, my Taekwondo master always taught me that a street fight is never a fair fight, so use it to your advantage. It’s okay to play dirty when it’s needed. Especially in a street fight where you might be at a huge disadvantage because the opponent likes to play dirty yet you like to stick to the rules.

  • @LoneCommentWanderer
    @LoneCommentWanderer Před rokem +1

    0:59 This is one of the things that annoys me the most. I met many guys who, because they were stronger than me, said they could break me with just one punch. I'm kinda skinny and look pretty young for my age while they already look like they've got a family. It was one of the reasons I got into karate and thank God it made me gain a little more respect.
    2:36 The second one that also infuriates me would be this one. Look, I know that Boxing or Muay Thai are good martial arts, but doing one of those two doesn't automatically make you better than those who practice Karate, Taekwondo, Kung Fu or whatever. What does it matter if you train one of them and not know how to use it correctly? What if the other guy has more experience, is more agile and stronger? Martial art doesn't matter, you should care about the fighter's skill.
    3:09 The third and last. You know that we train every day thinking about real life fights, not the fights we'll have in tournaments, right? Do you think that in these moments we will remember rules? We can still "see red" or end up smashing you into the ground if we want to, and we'll still outskill you.

    4:01 I guess you can say that for almost all budo martial arts, just because they are not so popular in the Western culture and media. Many people think that just because Boxing and MMA are so well known and so popular in America and Europe, that these are like the only "efficient" martial arts to use in a street fight or what so ever. They only see like the shitty aikido stuff or random katas and think that all kinds of these are useless

    @johngr1747 Před rokem +2

    I disagree with no. 4. There are martial arts that are inherently better than others, at least in certain aspects. BJJ is superior to Aikido because it teaches you how to grapple an opponent into submission. Muay Thai is better than Boxing because of the larger amount of advantages it offers. Folkstyle Wrestling is better than any other style in a self-defense scenario because it allows you to win by pinning the opponent down and incapacitate them! Unarmed Wing Chun is yet to be proven effective!
    No matter how strong or agile you are, a certain martial art that's not effective by its nature is not going to help in a fight and even if you're capable of defending yourself it'd most likely not be via moves taught by that martial art but by strength and agility.

    #2 is too real. Here in Brazil, just recently, there was a boxing match (like the ones that happen between influencers, like the kinds of Jake Paul/KSI/etc in the US) between what is basically the icon of Brazilian Boxing, Popó, 4-time boxing world champion and well beloved fighter, and a sub-celebrity bodybuilder best known from the reality show Big Brother, Kleber Bambam.
    To summarize the beef, Bambam called Popó a wuss for having a fight with Whinderson Nunes, one of the biggest Brazilian youtubers, and that he could take Popó in the ring. When the time of the fight came, dude didn't last a minute before forfeiting the fight and getting two knockdowns in 30 seconds. Dude was a lot bigger than Popó but experience and fighting knowledge made him kiss the floor real fast

    Regarding the fourth myth, despite how actually obvious it is, I tend to be very much sinful of it. Always thinking that "my martial art is the best because it teaches you REAL fighting!!", while I also forget that if I wanna become an ultimate fighter I'll have to learn A LOT of martial arts, even those that aren't very effective in fighting. Some might find it surprising, but some "non-practical" looking martial arts, them being kung-fu, wing-chun, whatever that inclines abstract moves, are actually very useful in developing your own body and increasing general knowledge. You never know when you'll need that wing-chun training of yours.
    Stay strong, and keep on learning!

    My understanding and opinion, feel free to provide a counterpoint: No martial art is generally superior to all others, but every martial art is superior to at least one other in some way. Example: Kickboxing VS boxing. Kickboxing is superior to boxing, in that kickboxing has more options for a response to an attack, or to neutralize an opponent.

    Yeah. Karate can work. Me and my brother tried a karate move where you block a punch by directing the energy somewhere else. But obviously using only karate won't work in a street fight. It's just that some martial arts like kick boxing or Muay Thai may work better on their own. But did you know that karate is a great martial art for fighting groups of people. But that's why Mma is my favorite because it's mixed martial arts. I'm glad you busted all these myths and I know I sound like a nerd 🤓

      A gun will beat any martial art, in that case you shouldn’t be fighting

    I’m gonna be honest, I was never a fan of Karate, but I respect people who do it nonetheless. Any martial art is cool for me. 👍

      I started when i was 14
      and ive been doing it for about a year and 8 Months, currently 16
      it really sucks at forst to do lessons with really young kids who are a much higher belt then you but trust me after youve been in there for about 3 or 4 months theyll move you to the adults class really quickly

    Actually in my taekwondo Group there's a boy who has blue Belt which is already very good but he doesn't have much Muscles, he's like the thinnest one of the Group 😂
    Also today i had Training and i was like so bad this time i couldn't hold my leg in the air for 3 seconds 😂
    I have to say sth about Myth 9 because in my Group we are everything from white Belt to blue Belt and nobody with a higher Belt thinks that he is so much better than you and still respects you :)
