New video for "20 minutes/ 40 Years" from the album "Wavering Radiant" by ISIS. Video directed by Matthew Santoro - vimeo.com/user1522506. Main character by James Reinhardt.
I don't understand how anyone with a sense of versatility in metal couldn't like Aaron's growls. They're so primal - raspy and dry. They're a trademark of Isis' sound. Raw and filled with emotion.
Was a big hurdle for me 20 years ago, but I got past it and glad I did. They were a great band. I did like how they used more clean vocals on their later tracks though. The contrast added even more dynamics to the songs.
Still hard to believe they've broken up. Wavering Radiant was such an amazing album, not to take anything away from their others (especially Oceanic and Panopticon), but Radiant had an indefinable quality that seemed like ISIS 2.0, they were on another level on that album and for the live performances.
Tendrils extend from the cloudy black mass They slither and slide through the ones and zeroes Prophecy of collapse unfolds Last grains of sand spiral down the hole Chance has graced me with a gift Grasp at gold before dark descends Sun beats down and panic reigns In this time of ending Eyes shut, feet bare For this journey, I'm unprepared I walk on Sight renewed Seek new life I seek new life Walk On Seeking her the one I wish to see She wanders the outerlands From the grasp of wolves I will pluck her Twin arteries flow with the pulse Of one mighty heart
Incredible. They really nailed it. I would say this is like the Picasso or Da Vinci of metal. I actually had tears welling up in my eyes the first time i heard it.... they did not run down my face just welled up from tragic beauty of it.... i could go on...........
it's unfortunate the name of one of my favorite bands is directectly associated with terror. I've loved this music for years, & I hope these guys won't be forgotten or overlooked in years to come, for the ignorance of others.
The name may now be directly related, but what the fuck does it matter if the rest of the world doesn’t care to understand?? Fans will always be fans and Fuck the rest that want to continue to be ignorant, period.
But, they're not directly associated with terror. The band predates the terrorist group and there's no connection. Anyone ignorant enough to confuse the terrorist group with the band (named after the goddess of the moon) is not a person that should ever be listened to.
TWIN. ARTERIES. FLOW. WITH THE. PULSE. OF ONE. MIGHTY. HEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART! (Followed immediately by the holiest fucking outro to have ever graced your ears)
There's something about progressive metal like ISIS and Tool that really makes me feel connected to the universe in a eerie but inspiring way. Tool is my favourite band, but I gotta say ISIS really nails it too. It's one of the most difficult genres to be good at, because it requires a lot of musical skill as well as a lot of mental and creative capacity. I've been trying for years to write progressive songs like these and that of Tool and it's really not easy. 4/4 beat is the easy way out.
The video symbolically charts the progression of the band's history. They started out as underground sludge, struggled to make their way forward, not really sure where they were going at first. Eventually, almost by accident, they incorporated a more human component to the music. After this they managed to ooze outwards and upwards, finally breaking through into success. Ties in directly with the record's themes of change and a send-off to the fans and the industry.
I've heard people to compare ISIS to TOOL on many occasions and though both bands create what I call "epic" music, the two bands are on different waves entirely. Isis has perfected the heavy layering sound and, the dynamics that Aaron Turners vocals add to their music is just one way that ISIS differs from TOOL. We all know Maynard has a great voice but he pretty much has to stay in the same range. I respect that ISIS decided to end while they were on top of their game. Their music will remain
On the subject of the types of vocals employed, yelling, clean, etc, I'd have to say Aaron turner does it so beautifully. He uses screams to exibit emotion in the music; to emphasize certain parts of the song, thus adding progressive structure. I do not believe he does it because that's what good little metal bands do. Like slipknot, mudvayne, and whatever other horrible nu metal band you care to compare. It's almost an inescapable fact that Isis are one of the greatest bands of all time.
been seeing them since the late 90s. They are always a treat! every album is a new journey in sound. Too bad they have called it quits. I heard their last show was amazing!
Of course the Tool Influence is there... but this guys kept evolving every record... and for me, Wavering Radiant is their masterpiece... so sad they disbanded at the very top of the hill... RIP my beloved ISIS!
I hate how everyone acts like tool/maynard was the first band to sing clean over heavy droning metal. I meant they pretty much took that style from Failure and bands before them too.. Tool really started out making metal suitable for the radio... while Isis was already droning atmospheric metal with heavy toms and developing the sound Tool would adopt in later years.
Isis videos are constantly great, and indeed they (the band) keep improving. Everything these days is probably a melting pot of something or the other, but Isis really stands out no matter how you define it. Can't wait to see what they do in the future.
Torally agree cerebral I didnt like the vocals at first but after you keep listening to this band the more and more you realize how amazing this collaboration of artists is truly a one of a kind band and Aaron sounds great live on vocals
This band gets better and better. Love this video! Some might say it's reminiscent of tool, visually and musically, but no disrespect to tool, i love Isis style so much more.
Huh! Yeah? Nailed it, toasttoasttoast12! I was just thinking that as I was watching this. Stinkfist, anyone? Pretty cool. Well, they toured with Adam and the Toolband, so something was bound to rub off. Miss these guys, real bad. Thanks for posting, ClearingTheEye.
@EtherealWaves saw mastodon a couple days ago in Guadalajara... dude! they're awesome! Oblivion performance was stunning! I hope I can see Isis live one of these days man...
I've had my share of arguments over youtube and I understand the they are completely pointless, however my problem is when people call something artistic and creative when it is clearly not. Lady Gaga is an example of what I mean. However this song and video clearly have a high level of artistic value and creativity behind them so why can't people just appreciate the fact that this isn't something that has been done over and over again.
I miss this band.

not a fan.

One of the best bands in history! Especially experienced LIVE! I feel privileged to have seen them LIVE for once!
This is a masterpiece and gets better everytime you listen to it.
right.. i fall asleep to it every night on the big speaker. its perfect💔
Agreed
It's my two thousandeth something time now, and I still hear new intricate details.
Musical Giants. True Pioneers of music. Thankyou.
Sad to see this band gone after so many years. Still remember the day this came out
Still hard to believe they've broken up. May your memory never die. May your song live on. See you on the other side, my musical brethren.
One of the best bands I've ever experienced live. They triggered a neuron somewhere. I have remained a dedicated listener.
Tendrils extend from the cloudy black mass
They slither and slide through the ones and zeroes
Prophecy of collapse unfolds
Last grains of sand spiral down the hole
Chance has graced me with a gift
Grasp at gold before dark descends
Sun beats down and panic reigns
In this time of ending
Eyes shut, feet bare
For this journey, I'm unprepared
I walk on
Sight renewed
Seek new life
I seek new life
Walk
On
Seeking her the one
I wish to see
She wanders the outerlands
From the grasp of wolves I will pluck her
Twin arteries flow with the pulse
Of one mighty heart
Such a beautiful song. Isis means so much to many and will live on forever for all of us...

I wish 💜 Old man gloom is sick, though!

The lyrics are a stunning example of free form poetry and thought, truly enlightened through music.

This was the song that got me into Isis, incredible, just incredible.
Damn...Aaron's clean singing has just gotten better. I love the way the bass just sorta oozes into the beginning of the song too-just awesome!
10/5
so beautiful💔

Known this band for years and only just seen this splendor
I'm watching the world fall apart and this is the perfect soundtrack.

Lol
we never forget this band bro

It's stupid they chose to make the terrorist group after ISIS, which is actually originally the Egyptian Goddess of creation.
love acoustic version too
this is the most bad ass music vid I've seen in YEARS.
TWIN.

This band was brilliant...
incredible performance in Portugal...hail!!!!!
I had this on the car stereo when driving through freezing fog in rural Oregon. It kept me from freaking out.
Every single part of is amazing and fits perfectly into the song's structure, but 4:27 is simply transcendent.
best song on that record
Who else is here because they searched "Isis 20 Minutes 40 Years"?
This album is so fantastic to study to!
I wish they had more videos. Awesome visuals
Man, im gonna miss them...

Awesome song! "Twin arteries flow with the pulse of one mighty heart." great lyrics too.
Hope to hear new sounds from one of the most favorite band.

masterful, a masterpiece
I saw Isis at bonnaroo this year. I'm glad I saw them before they split.
Najlepszy zespół post-metalowy.Tylko szkoda że już zakończyli swoją działalność.Pozostała po nich pustka.Trudno jest zastąpić takich mistrzów.
R.I.P. Isis. You will be missed :(
ISIS brought me here...
I WALK ON, SIGHT RENEWED!!!!

I like the uneasy effect that this song gives me.

One of the best uses of ferrofluids I've seen in a video. Great song and fantastic band.

The heavy screaming makes it even cooler. It adds depth by putting the two contrasting sounds together.
This is my first experience with Isis. Wow, im blown away!
Great band I shall look in to them..
Awesome & Magnificent.

That will be my first time seeing them live... Great video by the way!
they bring their music to life
Also, this is hands down the best music video I've seen in ages.
the first thing that struck me about the video was how similar it looks to a Tool video. this is glorious, and it's Isis; fantastic band.
I'd love to see a Tool video done this way. I think you're visions off, but hearts in the right place.
I love this band.
That Beauty.
This video is amazing. I loved it.
Still !

This band reminds so much of Deftones, wich I like!!
This band gets better and better. Love this video! Some might say it's reminiscent of tool, visually and musically, but no disrespect to tool, i love Isis style so much more.

ISIS *1997 †2010 - This constellation and band will be missed until the day of their reunion!
