How I Fix Samsung Refrigerator RF26HFENDSR/AA with Ice Buildup and Broken Ventilating System

  • Sometime, appliances are defective, and the problems result in leaking and slush, over-freezing in the ice compartment, water leakage and fan noise. My fridge was building up ice, and it is not keeping the food fresh. I'd wish I could replace this one with a new one, but it is an easy as most appliances are in shortage at the current time. Also, not have I mentioned a new refrigerator costs an arm and a leg. So, I thought I should fix this refrigerator myself. I have tried out defrost the ventilator system for couple times already. The first time took me about 10 hours to melt down all the ice, in order to detach the cover from it. Now I have learned a better and efficient way to melt down the ice. Now using this method. It only took me about 2 hours to do this fix job. Well, for some of you guys, melting down the ice won't necessarily fix the root problem, but at least one fix temporarily repair the ventilating system, in which the fan is not working due to ice buildup. After that, the refrigerator will be good to work for 2-3 months before you will need to fix it again. I think that's the best solution for me now as I am waiting for a cheaper refrigerator to replace this one, when the supply is up again. I hope this helpful for you. Thank you!

You did a great Job! (for many years i also repaired refrigerators, love to see someone help people DIY or technicians discover better ways). i did notice one thing in your very well done video, and that would be, to have put the little aluminum hanging "TAB" back into the drain hole on the bottom. In my view, that drain can re-ice the bottom again. The "TAB" is a heat wick or heat sink that transfers heat from the bottom defrost heater section right over the drain hole, and keeps the drain free of ice each defrost cycle. temperature forces impacted the heater and slightly warped it to pull the TAB away- i didn't see you re align or bend every thing back into the hole. :) Your very patient and a good instructor!

We also replaced the heat conduction T-clip using Jeff Lepard's video; hopefully it will prevent future ice build-up. New and newer Samsung refrigerators all do this and they never acknowledge or fix the problem (major scam to customers). Your video will get us through the pain until we all get refunds through the class action suit. Thank you!

Thanks for this. I have the same fridge and the same problem. Thanks Samsung. My fridge must of the been doing this for a little bit now, till I noticed my beer not as cold as it used to be. I could not find anything local to get hot water in (injector), I tried a spray bottle with hot water and even a hair dryer to warm it up, I got some removed but, I can't get it all off. Borrowed 2 cube fridges so most stuff will be ok for the time being, I'll have to wait till tomorrow to pull it out and make sure everything is good and dry before putting it back together.
I am glad to know the exact problem and how to address it, thank you for this. Other CZcamsrs pointed out if you get a heated wire for the upper freezer lines, it will keep from freezing. If this happens again, I will have the part on hand ready to do the same thing...
No need to replace as long as it's working well but, this type of problem is unacceptable.

For the final step of thawing out that drainage tube, using a syringe with warm water was great! Then once that water was cooler, I drew it out fully and get new warm water in the syringe and repeated.

My neighbor has the same problem. The fan will not cycle on and off to keep the ice from building up. You can test the fan by hooking up 12vdc to the red/black wires on the fan to see if the fan works (use a car battery for the 12vdc). His fan works. So there is a problem with the signal from the control board that tells the fan to turn on. Will add more info as we further diagnose the issue.

The more difficult one if that helps. I found more information regarding the reason why condensation accumulated. The sensors on the top right corner interfere with the covers seal. Try and move them inward and when replacing the cover, make sure it seats properly. I let the drain completely defrost. It worked!!! To this day, whenever I close the door. I can hear the pressurized Air flow through the drain pipe.

A handheld steam cleaner works really fast without having extra water all over. I suggest getting one because I’ve had to replace thermostats and defrost elements, etc. in both the fridge and freezer multiple times. I HATE my Samsung RF263. In a refrigerator that cost almost $2000 Samsung should have used better quality parts. I have never had so many problems with any appliance. Problems started when it was less than a year old. Now (6 years later) 2-3 times a year, I have to search CZcams to figure out what my current problem is. I’m just a little bitter as I’m again having to spend hours emptying my refrigerator and defrosting it before I can even get the back panel off to continue defrosting and changing out the part of the day. Come on Samsung, do better.

It doesn't have one. There is no water dispenser. Samsung used the same display computer as the models that do have a water dispenser. Therefore, you get the same scheduled filter replacement notification. I can't remember as I disconnected it because of course, it's broken. The ice maker might have one. I'm assuming it would be in the roof of the freezer.

E saver is a 15 watt heater in the door trim to remove moisture buildup outside the fridge. The defrost heater runs every 8 hours of compressor operation to remove frost buildup. A thermo sensor turns off defrost when temp on top reaches set design temp. That sensor is upper right. Problem is it may turn off too early. Maybe reposition temp sensor as high as possible

@@phacaish the tongue/tab at the bottom of the defrost heater needs to be pointed down into the drain hole. Yours was pointed in the wrong direction, sideways and to front. When it heats up with defrost coil it heats drain water to prevent ice buildup in hole. Melts any ice formed around hole. Great video.

Thank you for this video. I've repaired mine 3+ times and ice continued to build up a week afterwards so I replaced a few parts- temp sensor, heater, and drain clip.
It is still building up ice!

I can see that you plugged the fridge in and connected the fan to make sure it works. I'll be doing that next time, too!
If that works fine, what else could be the problem?

I wrapped a small piece of copper wire near where the heat transfer takes place. (At the bottom, near the drain) The factory "connector" was loose. After this it worked great for 2 years. The loose connector caused the heat transfer loss.

@James Smith Hi friend, great to hear good for 2 years. Could you please do a video or send me picture of how copper wire is attached? That will definitely save me tons of times. My phone number is US (415)787-8116. Much appreciated!

This is the third video I watched. Definitely the best thing. Only wanting to add is to be careful with the Styrofoam. I had two small brakes near the top. Using special glue my crafty wife has. Hot glue is good too. Others will eat it.

@GrizLab232 Simple. Replace the faulty parts with parts that work. My fridge has the same issue, and taking it apart every few weeks to manually defrost gets old.
