I want to meet who ever came up with this scene bc this couldn’t have been anymore romantic and dramatic then what it was. I want my wedding to look like this. It was so dreamy
Its part of asian culture too. We are taught that no matter what darkness is happening in your personal life, you must present a calm 'face' in front of others. That's how my mother was able to turn up to work everyday while she was getting cheated on and going through a messy split with my father. Not saying its the best thing but I was still in awe of how strong she could be. None of her collegues ever knew either - whereas anyone else would miss a week of work and cry on their shift cuz their dog was sick. I always found it interesting
Jiyuu Chizukeki wow, she sounds like a very strong woman. Though i hope she was able to let all those feeling out at times. And i hope things did turn out okay in the end
You know what made me cry in this film? It's that "I love you" mouthing by Rachel and Nick. Remember that the confrontation between her and Eleanor happened before this scene, so Rachel must have felt like she will never have the chance to say say this in a real wedding to Nick one day. Tears!!
This scene alone should have won an award for most creative and most original. A beautiful scene in movie history. Thank you Jon M Chu! I love your movies.
No one in Hollywood is watching what we’re watching and seeing. They’re just awarding themselves randomly, oblivious to three minutes of absolute perfection.
I like that they actually brought Kina Grannis (the singer) and showed her performing at the wedding, it makes it feel even more authentic (because in a wedding like this, they definitely would hire a live musician. Plus that's great exposure for her!)
This scene embodies so many phases of love. Relishing in it (Araminta), depending on it (Astrid and grandma), ending it (Astrid alone), realizing its authenticity (Eleanor) and its limits (Rachel). This scene is overwhelming and genius. I am in awe that Jon was able to capture so many perspectives of the human condition in three minutes.
Same! I have never gotten emotional over a romance or wedding scene, I was so confused when I gasped at the beautiful scene and felt tears coming from my eyes! 😂😩😭 Everything was perfectly timed 👏🏼👏🏼💜
In this movie, one of my favorite characters is definitely Astrid. Rich, but humble. Successful, yet modest. Vulnerable, but strong. I missed the scene after the kiss where she breaks down and cries. But the fact that she was able to show up without making a scene and keep a calm demeanor...Astrid is someone to look up to.
Definitely!!!!!!! She is by far my favorite character in this movie. She gave up a lot and made many sacrifices just for a marriage her family disapproved of. Yet she'll have to face them and their social circle with a big 'I TOLD YOU SO'. I hope that I'm able to develop these qualities that she possess.
Never had I ever been so moved by a single wedding scene. Most I've seen in movies and in real life never will come close to the way I felt during this scene. This scene literally made me cry, and I finished the movie a few moments ago, and I just had to watch this again. I've never fallen in love, I don't like anyone at the moment, neither have I ever had a serious relationship, yet this scene made me feel nostalgic. Probably because in my past life I fell in love and... I don't know. This scene was more than sweet: it was magical. Considering that this was supposed to be a comedic movie, never did I expect such an emotional scene, which made it a whole lot better. I'm really looking forward to more movies with these actors and the director.
Past lives.... as a physics graduate Penrose's lectures are showing they just might be real.... "nostalgic" so many times I have felt that, now i know why TY (thank you)
There's always a way to scale down on expenses. 1. Phoebe and Mike's wedding in the American Sitcom FRIENDS. On the street. Under streetlights. Still romantic. 2. The Peraltiago Wedding by Charles Boyle in Brooklyn 99. Police themed. Also on the street with shredded paper as the ramp and police lights as the background. Acknowledgement of both work life and romantic life in one stroke. These are the two fictional weddings that I can quote at the top of my head which are MINIMUM budget yet aesthetic and romantic. There's always a way.
In my humble opinion, this is hands down the most romantic wedding ceremony scene in film history as far as I'm concerned. I still cry my eyes out every time I watch it. Bravo to the actors/actresses who convey so much emotion throughout, but also the special folks behind the lens that orchestrated this beautiful moment for us, the viewers.
The way the groom set his eyes to her bride was really touching....and the same with the main lead.. it was really a great movie coz their love feels real....
It’s so powerful because we first meet the bride and groom in the airport and they’re normal, loving people dressed normally. You can tell they LOVE each other and the money doesn’t matter.
I cried twice during this movie: 1. the wedding scene 2. the proposal on the airplane with his mum's ring in the box Also, another one of my favorite scenes in this movie has to be the mahjong scene
If you don't understand the significance of the mah jong scene near the end of the movie, then you simply MUST read the article by Jeff Yang on Vox.com, August 31. It will explain SO MUCH, including the meaning of the "broken bamboo" tiles, and how the girlfriend LET the mother win the game. It will make the scene so MUCH MORE meaningful.
@@alannalyc -- Ah, but you have to read the Vox article to pick up the full content. The fact that Eleanor was sitting in the "East" position representing Asia, and Rachel was sitting in the "West" position representing America. The fact that "Empty Bamboo" is a slur that Asians throw at Asian-Americans (much like the slur "banana")-- and Rachel let Eleanor win with an empty bamboo tile. The fact that Rachel is a game theory professor and worked the game to let Eleanor win in an obvious way. There are simply so many layers going on in this highly-choreographed mah jong game that I urge people to read the Vox article. You will appreciate the artistry of that scene so much more! ☺
I admire Astrid here, to show up in a wedding where 2 people promising to be together, it must have been a very depressing time for her. Hers was ending and her friend's starting a new life. To show up and give support when she is dying and still remaining calm, she is clearly a strong woman. She deserved better.
Yes, but each image/frame was so beautiful, I wish they could have lingered a few seconds longer on each image. But the song is not that long, and I guess they had fit the scene within the length of the song.
Unfortunately there were power cords throughout the set, including where the water flowed; they had to reshoot this six times as the actress playing the bride kept getting electrocuted.
I swear.....I've seen the movie in the theater 5 times. I am so freaking psyched to get it on DVD on tuesday.......but this by far is my favorite scene and of course that one that makes me cry like a baby every single time. When Nick mouths I Love You to Rachel and she says it back....with the song......and then that music sound effect...OMG.
I swear they stole my wedding idea. I wanted “Can’t help falling in love” being acoustically sang as I walk down an aisle of water. I screamed when I saw this movie!!! I’m still going to do it though 🥰🥰🥰
The chills I got when I saw this.. i was quaking! I started crying. This was absolutely breathtaking! And when the water started flowing down the aisle & she stepped in like a Goddess.. I nearly passed out
This is when I realized why some people cry at weddings. They’re overtaken by the beauty of two people being united in love, and I never understood that tearful feeling until I watched this scene 😭

Oh yes of course the two main characters the story was centered around... they way they looked at each other... amazing scene!!!!
I remember watching CRA in theatres AND when my university played it for movie night. when the wedding scene came on and the song started playing, i could hear an audible "awww" and then as the water flooded the floor, everyone either gasped or said "wow!" but my favorite audience reaction was when the lights in the scene went dark and the wedding guests stood up as araminta came on scene in her wedding gown - there was no sound. everyone that was seeing this scene just watched in awe. i even saw some girls in front of me cry because it was such a beautiful scene. and idk but it was one of the best audience reactions i've personally witnessed.
This movie is epic. Times has changed. When I was in college in the East Coast more than 10 years ago during movie night. They played Must Love Dogs where there was a racist scene portrayed an Asian lady speaking broken English in the nail salon acting stupid. I was upset by the negative portrayal of Asian American women on the screen that I stood up and walked out of the room. The other college students looked at me like I'm overreacting and rude then ignored me and kept laughing because that's what most of them growing up thinking all Asians are alike. They also don't understand it's those labored, speaking broken English, immigrant Asian women are the ones raising future Asian American pharmacists, nurses, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, IT, etc.
@@yv6160 this is one of the best replies i have ever received, thank you so much. And also, I feel you on that. That’s so wonderful! When I saw this in theatre, a couple girls burst out laughing right when she stepped into the water and completely broke the silence of the theatre. It really negatively effected the scene unfortunately :(
The "I Love you" part i think is the happiest yet saddest part of the movie... but my eyes was literally flooding in tears and my heart bumping so hard that I can smile and cry at the same time
For those who are curious....yes this kind of wedding does happen in asian countries. But of course this is clearly exaggerated. Etravagant weddings are quite common for the middle class to the upper class. I have attended weddings/receptions that have flowers arranged gorgeously and are shipped from the other side of the world, wedding dresses made by high class designers, etc. Every wedding are unique and extravagant on their own ways.
these kinds of weddings aren't exclusive to only asians...I can say this very confidently as an asian myself. in fact, our weddings here are quite different and more cultured compared to the one shown here.
Well if you mean by exaggerated is the water scene, yeah I've never heard about it. But when it comes to the price, it's not exaggerated, this kind of wedding does exist. Not everyday of course
This brings so many moments. Like Astrid being very calm and trying to hold things in after her husband left her, Rachael and nick looking at each other, and the song
everything is perfect, and can we just mention how collin is teary-eyed at araminta's first step? their love is so pure despite all the other aspects they can value each other for
This scene made me speechless. It was just perfect and was absolutely to the liking of the hopeless romantic residing inside of me. Literally, this scene could take my hand, take my whole life too and I'd voluntarily give both of them away. I'm so in love with it.
The only possible thing that might have made this scene better would be if it had been longer: dwelling longer on each visual image without so many rapid edit "cuts." But even as is, it is superb cinematography and took the audience's breath away.
Watched this in the cinema and god... the music, the location, the acting, everything was just so perfect for this scene. I’m not even kidding when I say I had chills shivering down my spine and I felt this intense emotion when the music stopped and it was just pure silence. I freaking LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH!!
Crazy Rich Asian is the only Romantic Comedy that make me cry . I can't hold my tear in wedding scene and ending airplane propose scene , That two scene really touch me . I save Crazy Rich Asian in my harddisk and never delete it .
the best wedding scene I've seen in movies, that made me cry again and again, the artist who sings excellent, captivated me, I repeated the scene more than 10 times and I cried in all🤣🤣😘😍
This scene never fails to bring me to the brink of tears no matter how many times I watch it. Reminds me of me and my significant other because we always say I love you to each other...
*OK I’m so glad someone posted this part of the movie on here so I can watch it as many times as I please because this is the best thing ever and I cry every time during this scene* ❤️
Her voice is beautiful and matched so perfectly. Even without watching the clip when I hear the song and her sing I start tearing up. This scene was all around so beautiful ugh
this was the most beautiful scene of the movie, I went to see it with my vietnamese girlfriend and me been hispanic, it taught us so much about what true love is indeed, there are truly no limits, only the one you set yourself, what a beautiful movie it was and the theme of a rice paddy, that is very meaningful in Asian culture
I was in a big movie theatre watching CRA. And so when the music stopped to nothing, all I could hear was that kind of white noise you'd get from your ears. I was in awe from this moment of pause that my ass managed to shed a tear xD. Watched it again in a smaller theatre but didnt get the same effect. I think it was contrasting transition from loud audio to no audio. Anyway this and the Mahjong scene is my favourite.
This scene was absolutely breathtaking. The flow was flawless and that womans singing just made me cringe. I immediately wanted a wedding after this scene! AMAZING! Loved this movie!!
This is one of the most memorable scene throughout the movie ♥️. How the uniqueness shone through with a very intricate design of how the wedding scene should be. Such grace, elegance and beauty being portrayed together in one scene. Now I feel intoxicated with this movie
I remember watching this in theatres the day it came out, the whole audience including myself was in awe with the whole scene that you could ever hear everyone breathing. It was really BEAUTIFUL
I remember being in a theater when this scene happened. Just as the bride is revealed and she takes that first step some guy breaks the stunned silence in the theater with a perfectly timed "holy shit!" The rest of this amazing scene was ruined because the entire theater broke out laughing! He only said what we were all thinking LOL! They truly nailed it!
It’s a good thing I saw this movie at home! I was also shocked by how beautiful they made this scene 😂😭 The silence before she took that first step into the water (the bride looked like a goddess with her legs shimmering and the little lights surrounding her) and I started crying and my mom was in awe 🤣 I’ve never felt like that in a wedding scene, not even in a real wedding LOL

The hopeless romantic in me was sobbing at the end of this movie.
this is the most beautiful wedding scene i’ve ever seen. it gives me chills. holy shit. i want my wedding to look like this.
“Like a River flows..”
Me: Like the tears flow...
The "I Love you" part i think is the happiest yet saddest part of the movie... but my eyes was literally flooding in tears and my heart bumping so hard that I can smile and cry at the same time
I felt the same way ❣️
For those who are curious....yes this kind of wedding does happen in asian countries.
You are right....extravagant weddings are quite common for the middle to upper class in America too!
these kinds of weddings aren't exclusive to only asians...I can say this very confidently as an asian myself. in fact, our weddings here are quite different and more cultured compared to the one shown here.
Just wondering is the whole water thing is also also like part of like a tradition, or was it just more effects for the movie.
@@beksl5411 it's just effects for the movie
Well if you mean by exaggerated is the water scene, yeah I've never heard about it. But when it comes to the price, it's not exaggerated, this kind of wedding does exist. Not everyday of course
This brings so many moments. Like Astrid being very calm and trying to hold things in after her husband left her, Rachael and nick looking at each other, and the song
the way Collin was looking at her was what made me cry..... The Face of a Man Who is Truly and Deeply in Love
I had to punch the wall 100 times to feel manly again...
Bless u lol
It takes a real man to show his emotions
And legend has it that he's still punching the wall 😂😂😂
@@invictus88 LOL! good one!
Lol
my eyes are flowing like that makeshift river
No, shift. Real tears. Dear
This is the only wedding scene I've watched that's actually made me want to get married
everything is perfect, and can we just mention how collin is teary-eyed at araminta's first step? their love is so pure despite all the other aspects they can value each other for
SHE WALKED ON WATER FOR HER WEDDING!!!

This scene made me speechless. It was just perfect and was absolutely to the liking of the hopeless romantic residing inside of me. Literally, this scene could take my hand, take my whole life too and I'd voluntarily give both of them away. I'm so in love with it.
Just going to write down everything for when I have my wedding
jagger2313 sameeeeee. I immediately was like IM DOING THIS FOR MY WEDDING. IDC.
Sshhh..LetsTalkSmack ME TOO GUYS
Me too!!
Gold body paint for legs
Fairy lights for audience
Makeshift river for aisle
No matter how many times I watch this scene, I still tear up and smile.
The way Nick and Rachel look at each other makes my heart melt. 😍😭💓
This movie was a visual and emotional feast!
My husband was reluctant to watch this movie with me. This is one of those scenes where we both cried.
the best wedding scene I've seen in movies, that made me cry again and again, the artist who sings excellent, captivated me, I repeated the scene more than 10 times and I cried in all🤣🤣😘😍

When the water flows through the isle, I got chills.

Constance wu’s reaction to the “I love u” ....dear lord....and The second shot with her tears falling destroyed whatever was left of my masculinity.
This scene never fails to bring me to the brink of tears no matter how many times I watch it. Reminds me of me and my significant other because we always say I love you to each other...
I love Kina so much!! Her voice is absolutely perfect
This scene gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes. Very well directed and put together!
I cry every time. This was hands down my favorite movie of 2018 🙌🏼
The most creative and beautiful thing I've ever seen in a wedding 😢
This scene was so emotional I started crying! “Can’t help falling in love” is the song I want played at my wedding too
Im a 33 year old black male and i just watch this movie last night. Im not ashamed to say i cried at watching this wedding scene
This will always be mt favorite scene of the movie. The part with the river, the mesmerising voice, the beautiful lights. It all melts my heart.
I started clapping in the Cinema after this scene and everyone joined me and started clapping 👏🏾 😭
Same at my theater.
Sure you did 😏
*OK I’m so glad someone posted this part of the movie on here so I can watch it as many times as I please because this is the best thing ever and I cry every time during this scene* ❤️
Everytime I watch this scene I cry and get extreme goosebumps
i'm a guy and this here this scene made me teary .... whooooh .. the silence in the cinema ...
Her voice is beautiful and matched so perfectly. Even without watching the clip when I hear the song and her sing I start tearing up. This scene was all around so beautiful ugh
The way Colin looks at her 🥰😊
This is definitely my favourite scene in the movie, and possibly of all time ♥️
Hate it when tears start rolling down the cheeks while still in the office and listening to this
this was the most beautiful scene of the movie, I went to see it with my vietnamese girlfriend and me been hispanic, it taught us so much about what true love is indeed, there are truly no limits, only the one you set yourself, what a beautiful movie it was and the theme of a rice paddy, that is very meaningful in Asian culture
AMAZING! Loved this movie!!
cringe?
@@celiap4122 I think he meant the good kind of cringe?
Saaame 💚
Omg this part is gorgeous I just love the wedding style and the water come out😍😍
I want someone to only have eyes for me like how Nick has for Rachel
This is one of the most memorable scene throughout the movie ♥️. How the uniqueness shone through with a very intricate design of how the wedding scene should be. Such grace, elegance and beauty being portrayed together in one scene. Now I feel intoxicated with this movie
I remember watching this in theatres the day it came out, the whole audience including myself was in awe with the whole scene that you could ever hear everyone breathing. It was really BEAUTIFUL
i watch this scene once a week just double check that i am capable of emotion
Three minutes of pure bliss. Thank you! 😭
I love this scene so much it was so touching and the facial expression of actress meant lots of things for me
The water thing us just so beautiful. If I were to do that at my wedding though I would probably slip, but man I'm so tempted
Haha do it! xD
I cry at this scene
BEST SCENE EVER!!! So beautiful and OMG I LOVE IT!!! Everytime I watch that scene when watching the movie over and over again, I cry my eyes out 😊😍❤
i knew i was going to cry when going into the movie but damn, this scene hit me like a truck cause i was a total mess watching it
juni a. Laughing through tears at the comment lol
What. An. Iconic. Scene.
I got chills and my eyes watered watching it for the 3rd time. The song cover is amazing!
That’s hilarious 😂
So much love in this beautiful scene, capped by the mom's "damn their in love" face 😍
That’ scene was amazing
this is the most beautiful scene and song I have ever seen and hesrd... I cannot stop watching this over and over...
One of the most memorable movies scenes ever. So beautiful..so ethereal.. 💕
I absolutely love that scene and every time I see this movie I still cry it’s just so beautiful
This is one of the most beautiful scenes I have ever seen. I saw the movie 3 times in the theater. Never gets dull... always filled with emotion!
