I was already out and exercising so I was breathless I screamed a few times at her which only had her notice me and pick up her pace, I could either yell and not keep up and have her forget her whole ass wallet/purse (a clutch I think?) that fell out of her bag when I saw her get a drink or I can follow until I caught up which I did about 5 minutes later. I had to approach her while she had her pepper spray out. I completely understand the reaction and don’t hold it against her but it is not always possible to get some one’s attention by yelling nowadays.

I am a man, and I would not go hiking alone in a place like that by myself. That's personal safety and security 101. The least of my worries would be someone following me, the rugged environment and terrain would be my first concern. As a woman, yes, it is TERRIFYING when we are followed. More often than not, people following us means trouble. Thankfully this man had nothing but good intentions, but not all people do. I’m not saying all men are good and all men are bad. I can recall twice when I’ve been followed. Once because a man noticed my low tire before I did and wanted to help me, another because a different man thought I’d be an easy target (he thought I was 15. I was 19.) Reminds me of a time when a female employee had made stalking/harassment allegations against a male coworker at a manufacturing facility I managed. She told me and our HR Manager that the male employee followed her home (driving their own cars) every afternoon, 5 days a week and on Saturdays if we work, when their shift ends. I asked what happens when you get home and she said nothing happens, he just keep driving past her house and down her street. I asked her if he says anything to here or gestures in anyway and she stated that he didn’t do anything; he just keeps driving. I asked the HR Manager her thoughts and she was dumbfounded as was I. We thought a bit longer and I finally had an ideal. I had her check the personnel files to see where each of them lived. They lived on the same street 4 houses away from each other.🤣

I hiked alone for decades before I met my husband. You notify friends/family before you leave. You bring bear spray. You stay on the trail. Best of all, you make new friends on the trail.

I had an honest conversation with my female coworkers about the man vs bear situation a while back and was deeply upset by all of their comments. I am a man, and I would not go hiking alone in a place like that by myself. That's personal safety and security 101. The least of my worries would be someone following me, the rugged environment and terrain would be my first concern. I sincerely hope you had a sat phone if you are out in a place like that with no cell coverage, which it appears to be.
As a woman, yes, it is TERRIFYING when we are followed. More often than not, people following us means trouble. Thankfully this man had nothing but good intentions, but not all people do. I’m not saying all men are good and all men are bad.

Reminds me of a time when a female employee had made stalking/harassment allegations against a male coworker at a manufacturing facility I managed. She told me and our HR Manager that the male employee followed her home (driving their own cars) every afternoon, 5 days a week and on Saturdays if we work, when their shift ends. I asked what happens when you get home and she said nothing happens, he just keep driving past her house and down her street. I saw a woman with a flat tire on the side of the highway on a stormy night and I pulled over to help her out and all of the sudden she started screaming to don't get any closer because she was calling the police.

She has nothing to apologize for. People lose their keys everyday. She was alone and she was scared. It was really nice of him to get her keys, but there was no way for her to know that he was safe. Don't blame social media for making women fearful of men. Blame the men who have women fearful of men. We deserve to feel as safe as men do walking alone anywhere in the world. Direct your judgement toward the men who have used violence against women, not the women who are fearful of men.

omg something like this happened on the high street. Literally one woman dropped her bunch of keys that also had her car keys attached, right on the pavement. I picked them up and approached her to hand them back to her. As I approached her, she legit scrunched up her face and say, "Ewww I'm not interested!" And walked off faster. Honestly, I could not believe she thought I was trying to hit on her! What did I do? I said, "Cool, forget it", and threw the keys into the closest bin. Yes, I will probably be downvoted, but her actions was pretty disgusting, by judging my actions when in fact I was trying to help.
