I've never liked angled headset systems due to the fiddly installation. This looks like an exception. Seems very well thought out and well made.
I've been running this on my 2020 Trek Stache for over a year. Easy to install, great product, and it does make a difference in a good way. Highly recommend this product.
I've been kicking this idea around for a while and decided to order one for my 2017 Trek Stache this morning since you gave me a discount code. Your videos are really helpful and well thought out. Thank you for your work.
Hey Ken, another viewer commented after you watched the video, that he run this part on his stache 2020 successfully for a year. Thought it might reassure you. Good luck
I ran this on my 2018 Trek Fuel Ex. The results were pretty amazing. The stability was very noticeable. I did have a little trouble during the installation of the cups wanting to rotate as I tighten to spec even with carbon paste.
What an awesome product! I want to try this on my wife's 2017 X-Caliber. Your video answered all my questions after leaving their website. Another great video my man!
Thanks for the update just purchased a slacker kit with your link... I wanted to purchase one a year ago but they didn't make one for my headset previously but now they do! Throwing it on my orbea oiz
Your videos are great for beginner bike tinkerers. My Trek Roscoe 7 has a decent 65 degrees head angle, so I don't really need the Slack-R, but it was fun to watch you walk through the whole thing. Cheers!
Glad to help and thanks for the nice words!🤘
This is great! I love my specialized chisel and have been looking for an angled headset that works with IS frames! Love your channel!
2019 Trek Full Stache 8, I installed a 1.8 degree Slack-R in August 2020 - a couple of weeks after it became available.
It's a solidly engineered piece of kit, and 9point8's customer service is top notch. In September 2021 I went over the bars and the Slack-R started creaking like it's nobody's business. Removing a Slack-R after using it for a year is tricky business, but their customer support responded to my groans within 30 minutes and plain sailing from there.
@@LoveMTB yes, still have it installed.
You didn't mention it in your video, but the effective adjustment is more than the Slack-R' stated offset.
The 10mm external lower cup is an additional 0.3-0.5 degree - your 1.5 degree version probably equates to 1.8 to 2 degrees on the bike.
@@LoveMTB you can see it is presented as 1.5 degrees Δ (that's 1.5 degrees Delta).
9point8 themselves state "The delta indicates the change in angle of the steer tube in your frame, but because of the combined effect of the increase in stack height from the bearing cups and the lowering of the front end due to the slacker head tube able, this doesn’t tell you exactly what the end result is. Using the Bravo kit the resulting geometry on the Tallboy is shown in Figure 1: Santa Cruz Tallboy 3 Slack-R Transformation. Despite only a 1.4° delta, the overall change is actually 1.7° "

Awesome. I have a same bike and I am thinking of getting this. Did you get a new longer travel fork or just increase travel?
Cool video this is the first that I hear of an angle kit that works with IS headsets!
Thanks, that was a really helpful video! I've ordered one for my Santa Cruz Tallboy 3 and the extra 10 percent discount code you provided, made it even more sweet.
Good timing! I just installed a 1.3* Slack-R on my Revel Rascal. Got chance to try it out last night and loved it!
@@LoveMTB I think I may go to a lower rise bar, but that's about it.
Great vid. Thanks for posting. Definitely demystified the process
Thank you for explaining this product, I’ve known about it for a while but never looked into it and now I’m interested. My 2015 Trek Remedy 9.8 is killer but it is pretty upright at 68 degrees so this may be a good choice. I do have 20mm of spacers too : )
I'm in the same boat...
Except money constraints, save me from all that work :-)
:-/
This product has got had the recognition it deserves!
great video as always, i have installed a Works Components to slacken my head angle which is so much easier and the company was excellent in advising on what one to get.
Great video, and well explained🤟I really like the fact that you get, what looks like, about 10mm extra stack height after fitting this. As a taller rider, I always find the front a little low for steep descending, so this kit kills two birds with one stone👊It's worth checking out the DMR Defy stem, as it has a really small stack height and might mean the difference between being able to use this kit or not🤩Cheers bud
Yup, I got a defy stem when i put on my slack-r too, good call!!
Great description, well done.
I keep commenting today. I’ve watched this video before. I love my slacker headangle on my Tallboy. I’m really considering this for the light weight xc build chisel.
Great review as usual! I’m using Works Components 2 degree angle set on my SC Bronson 2015 and very happy with it.
Yep, otherwise bike geometry is really outdated.
Unfortunately Works doesn't make anglesets for Integrated Headsets 😭
They can’t unless they adopt a system like this. The bigger issue here is IS headsets. They’re light but I would take ZS cups any day of the week.
Nice to here there making products now for Specialized Bikes thanks for the very informative video…
Nice video! I have the same bike. I think that the headset it's the only out of date thing of the bike (angle and lockout). It would be very nice if you could measure the head angle once you have installed the kit as you do at the beginning of the video. Also it would very nice to check that the seat angle is not affected or at least measure how it is affected. The finally trick would be check if the slaker kit allows to install the across lock headset. Cheers!
Looks cool, thanks for the excellent vid as always. I’d like to try this on my gravel bike - Breezer Inversion. The head tube seems long though.
Woot woot woot! Just put the set on my Orbea Rallon and what an improvement!! In terms of bang for the buck this is by FAR the best money spent in terms of bike upgrades. Only other adjustment I did was moving the saddle back 1cm. Thank you for the review and the code. :)
What year rallon and what kit did you get?
I have a 2021 and got the fox trot and its been nothing but a issue
@@avgjoemtb1 Sorry to hear. My Rallon is a 2019 one. R5 i think.
@@florihupf did you get the fox trot kit as well?
@@avgjoemtb1 let me check which kit i got
@@florihupf thanks mate seems I may have got a dud in a box sending me a new one glad to see you had success gives me hope 👍
Cool thanks for the information and details!
Buy two bucklos headset packages with bearings and seats. And invert the seats just simply laying them there on the tube on the fork. I use two. They not for that but it works even the bearings and in grooves
Great video! Thanks for the info!
Bravo! What a great tutorial!! 👏🏽
fantastic videos!

Eres el mejor. Genial la explicación; yo no lo usaré, pero es muy interesante. Enhorabuena por el vídeo. Saludos desde España.
Great video!
Thanks!
Perfect review bro ✌👍👍👍
Great video very detailed 👌.
Un interesante accesorio a tener en cuenta en caso de querer actualizar a los ángulos que están saliendo ahora más relajados. Buen vídeo explicativo.
Great video!!! ❤❤❤
Love to have it in my stumpjumper 🤙🏾
I feel like using a C-clamp would've helped you with holding the cups still while tightening.
Very innovative product and a cheaper alternative than to buy a new slacker frame. Did you experience any creaking? It would be cool if it comes in different anodized colors for those who like matchy matchy.
I've been thinking about potential creaking with this Angleset. But when you think about the concept, it's the same principle as thread together PF bottom brackets. The conventional PF BBs just pressed in often creak. But the ones that thread together in the middle don't.
Well worth the money, grwat product
Nice video!! But does the slack-r rise the front end of the bike? I already have a 10mm more on the fork and I run the stem slammed on the frame for compensate. This product will rise even more?
What are the geo change with this slack r ?
Great content again 👍🏻👍🏻
I ran one on my 2021 ARC for a couple of months. It was great.
Until Yeti decided it invalidates their warranty 😤😤
It’s removed now. But great product. Easy set up. Not so easy removal. I was unable to remove it without destroying it 😩😩
@@LoveMTB I did feel more confident with the descents.
No different on the uphill 👍🏻👍🏻
Much as Steve said on Hardtail party.
But I didn’t want to loose my frame warranty. Having Broken 3 Trek frames in the past. Warranty is more important.
@@LoveMTB yes. I’m on 140mm too. Perfect. Especially with those Bird spokes 😜😜
What? Yeti is not on board? I have an SB100 and was thinking of using this kit.
I got one of this for one 2015 Epic FSR. Tight it properly has been a true pain. You make looks it far too easy.
Both cups were turning as soon as I was applying some torque.
Plus the more you tight it, the more the thread for the adapter is disappearing under the screw thread and it becomes very difficult to maintain the torque.
But at the end, it works fine.
@@LoveMTB Once in place, it's glorious ! No regrets. It's a bit weird at the beginning when you're used to a pure Cross-country bike. I can't say i can feel degradation while climbing hills... but it's definitely better on tricky descent. My bike is aging but with the Slack-R, the geometry gets almost identical to the 2021 Epic... so for 120€, I got a 2021 Epic but with the FSR specs on it... All in all it's damn cheap and I can keep all the upgrades I made previously (actually everything except the frame :) ).
I would like to see by comparing two photos (with a ruler) before and after the modification to what extent the intended slack/tilt effect has been achieved. God damn Poland is far away and shipping cost is 90 US bucks.
I have a doubt: this solution is amazing for me to modify the frame geometry. But, what the limits? Can it modify the angle to damage the headset frame? For this modification, I think the frame will lost the guarantee. Anytime, I love this solution!!
i was think about getting this for christmas. do you think this is okay for a xc race hardtail, specifically a 2016 trek procaliber. i’m just worried about the head tube being strong enough other than that my bike is ready to go.
Thank you for your video!
It is interesting, but my current 2019 Focus Jam have 66 degree now, while on the official website of Focus bikes is 67,3 degree. Measured with the iPhone build in program.
ALSO - I have upgraded Revelation 140mm fork with new RCT3 and new Air spring instead of standard Motion control. After that fork added 8mm of travel - and it is ok.
Maybe that is why angle come slacker?
@@LoveMTB Well, I repeated measure few times... it jumps from 66 to 67... so it is really highly inaccurate. Thanks for the tip!
Personally if I wanted my bike to be slacker I think getting a longer fork is the best way to go. 1 degree slacker for every 20mm. Switch the 100mm fork for a 130mm fork and you will slack it out 1.5 degrees and if you don't like 130mm you could always add more air and it will be like a 100mm. The Slack-R is a great idea though I like 9point8, thanks for the detailed video as always
If you change fork travel, you often get the one positive with 2 negatives. You make the bb higher and the seat tube angle slacker. Most older bikes, that are good candidates for a slacker head angle, have a pretty slack seat tube to begin with. Things to consider.
@@jaygames1598 This is true but those are only two negatives if you see it that way, I prefer a higher BB because so many roots in my area and just push the saddle more forward on rails to make up for the slacker seat tube. Also keep in mind this Slack-R isn't giving you 1.5 degrees of slackness purely from the offset angles of the bearings, you can see it will be adding 15-20mm of length to your axle to crown measurement which is what a longer fork does anyways.... so the Slack-R will also give you a higher BB and slacker seat tube lol
@@MTBfixHQ I have over-forked a 2006 giant reign which was so fun and a 2013 norco fluid which I put back after a week or so. I like a xc/short travel bike to climb as good as it descends. As for the bb, my 2020 gt sensor was a monster truck in high and there's definitely some positives with that.
@@LoveMTB Agreed. I've tried 20mm longer travel forks 3x and 2 were quickly put back to original travel. Looks like a great product.
increasing fork travel will decrease climbing performance and fun. speaking from experience, I added just 10mm to my travel by changing the air spring, and I can really feel it on the steeper climbs. because of the steeper seat tube angle and completely extended fork, it is veeery hard to weigh the front end and the bike wants to wheelie all the time and I can't steer properly. Can't imagine what 20mm would do, probably much worse. Whereas just slackening head angle wouldn't have these effects
Does it works on all forks tapered and nom tapered ?
thank you for your video, and it was really detail. but I have a little issue during tighten the top and lower rings together. Bocs after lineup the center nicely but once I try to tighten them with the tool. the top ring will start move away from center. I was been trying few times and still not getting to it, and if I tight further and it go futher away... any help would be appreciated. thank you.
Make sure that when you start the caps you thread the in about the same, as in couple of turns. It is possible that one of then cups runs out of thread before the other, and that's when they start turning.
Could you put this on backwards to make it steeper😅. My Commencal has 63.5 degrees and it can be a lot sometimes
Nice!
Hello, I want to change my bike angle fork but I'm a little lost. I have an Orbea Oiz M-10 2022 and the direction diameter is 1/8-1/2 integrated and 9,5cm long. As I see you know a lot about it, do you know if there exists any special kit for my bike? Thakns a lot!
Changing a bike geometry isn’t dangerous?
I heard it can break the frame, for example putting more travel than the bike is design to deal with.
Nobody seems to mention alignment of cups. The marker notch goes to the back center line or goes to the front center line?
@@LoveMTB I had my LBS install them to my FS fat bike along with bleeding my brakes and some other stuff. They aligned the notches to the front of bike center. I think the center alignment should be towards the frame. Sure don’t look right.
@@LoveMTB Slacker
I don't know how you tighten the assembly without the top cup turning! Holding both cups with all my might but even just a bit of torque makes the tol cup especially rotate...
You have to start the threads at the same time otherwise you run out of it too early. Assuming you got the right kit
@@LoveMTB Yeah I just did a couple turns lower, a couple turns upper in the frame, and then the tool... 140mm head tube with the Oscar kit

If cups are off a 1mm or so from dead center does it matter? Thanks! Great video !
@@LoveMTB thank you for the quick response! I’ll be installing a kit today on my Revel Ranger. Sounds like I’ll need to do a little sanding. Wish me luck! Haha.
Oh man! You made that look a lot easier than it was for me. Had to do quite a bit of sanding. Then I couldn’t get the cups to remain centered while giving it the final few torques. Finally managed, ha. I can tell just sitting on it, I got what I was looking for though!
@@LoveMTB will do!
Question?
Can this be used on a trek marlin 6?? I want to change the fork for a fox 34 !
Can this be posible with this ?
@@LoveMTB thank you so much. .!
Great videos.!
Pls do you have any extra time to try and review the garbaruk cassettes cause they r cheaper than xtr and even lighter around 300 grams plsssssss accept my proposal
The problem is that it slacken the seat tube as well as it acts like increasing the A2C.
Take note as well that some of the frames aren’t supporting long A2C.
@@LoveMTB you are correct, but slackening the ST isn’t a good idea if you are into trail bike that can climb better.
@@LoveMTB thanks for the replies mate. Love your channel ;)
Do you still have the discount code for 2023? How was the bike running, do I have an exactly the same model, is there any risk of the frame breaking for this reason?
Discount is in the description and all good!
The funny thing is the MTB world is obsessed with BSA BB’s for some reason, yet they’re totally fine with the junk IS headset standard. ZS makes far more sense and allows you to use traditional anglesets.
Isn’t it better and easier to use Wolftooth geoshift -2?
For IS type of headsets?
Is the tennsioner tool included in the kit?
Yes definitely
@@LoveMTB thanks
I want this for my Scalpel Si -17 with lefty 2.0 :(
@@LoveMTB Yeah I guess, I remember looking into this a while ago. Found a special made headset for the 1.5 lefty headset on Ebay, but it was like 150 USD to get 1 degree slacker or something. A bit too much to make the change.
But making the change to a 1 1/8 steerer was definitely worth a hundred bucks so I can use regular low profile -20 degree stem.
Yeah, that bloody knock block...
I could use that on my Fuel Ex7 2019, but the brakes are kinda more of a priority.
And it'd be hard to swallow the incompatibility risk.
#nobudgetNohassle ;-p
Nice Concept. Really like the idea in general. Removing Material from my frame in the headset area will never be an optiom for me though.
And even if the diameter fits it does not mean it will fit your bike (e.g. cube bikes, as mentioned on their website).
Also 30Nm seem to be quite a lot with such a small thread pitch. Should result in a pretty big preload.
As it is right now this will void your warranty imo.
Pulling force 30 Hm is not much for a carbon glass? It's a lot
What's recommended by engineers so...

Great bike , rides smooth czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing
⁉
Not a big fan of this slacker..
if given a choice.
id sell the frame/Trade it to the frame that had slacker Headtube..
well just my opinion tho...
If you're lucky enough to find the frame you want in a color you like and your size. 🤔

I don't believe 1° makes enough difference to matter either way.
@@LoveMTB I tried extending my fork 20mm, effextively the same thing this angleseta does, my starting point was 67, so usable already, didn't make much difference, -2° slackerizer on top of that made quite a difference for steep terrain, a bit more stable at speed also of course.
The main point I want to make is that I don't think making 71° 1 degree less will make enough difference to matter, since it'll still be very steep.
@loveMTB How it effected rode? Any review
That's why I cut my steerer now with 30mm.
@@LoveMTB thanks. I just bought a new fork and this is the stiffest fork I have rs zeb. now I'm thinking of cutting it but making sure it fits all my bikes. I may have to sell one bike and keep that fork.
I love everything about the kit, except for the stupid special tool. Stoooooop making new interfaces please!
@@LoveMTB That surely makes it less of a pain, but I still have so many tools for so many different interfaces that I don't need another! I know, I'm acting like a grumpy old man, and maybe I am :) Keep up the good work though, great vids.
The space where the tool has to engage with the tensioner is very restrictive and no existing tool was available. Our first choice was to not have to design and supply a special tool, but in this case there was no option available.
