Thank you for this. The iOS 17.2.1 update installed last night and today I was able to add a Suica to apple wallet and pay with a non Japanese visa card.
Yes it does work with the latest update IOS 17.3

Thanks for the video but unfortunately for me it doesn’t let even to do through the app and when i want to top up it says “its outside of the service hours” do you know if there is anything else I can do? 😢😢

Sir, what do you mean by third option? Do you mean “unregistered suica “?
March 2024: So I went through the whole process and while the Apple Pay transaction with my VISA CREDIT ended in a green confirmation arrow, the transaction was denied according to the Suica App and the process cancelled.
My workaround there: I added a VISA DEBIT (Not my regular CREDIT) to Apple wallet and repeated the whole process. That seemed to work and the rest from there was smooth sailing. The Suica was automatically added to my Wallet and now I can even top it up from there with my VISA credit.
The cards were all issued in Germany. Hope that helps… :)
Hi @samonsta After adding my Visa DEBIT card in the Suica app, it said Credit card verification failed (MNIKAENE00062). Is it the same situation as you encountered? I added the same debit card to Apple wallet and try again but still didn't work
For the initial charge, I choose to add credit card instead using apple pay as currently apple pay is not functioning in my country (regulation issues) i put my cc info, confirm the 3D secure and once I want to charge it was error. I have used both visa and mastercard. I’m doing it in my home country, is there some limitation to do it outside japan or non apple pay available country?
Just tried your instructions for workaround to add Suica to iPhone. Not working. At 2:58 where your video shows a prompt for "Terms & Use", instead you get taken to another screen, which I think makes you read and agree to 2 seperate conditions (you have to scroll all the way down, before you get a green prompt in upper right). From there, it follows your video and I get all the way to where it looks like it accepted my payment (3:31), but instead of creating the card, I get a prompt with the Suica cartoon penguin with its head drooped down and some text above. The card is not created. It doesn't look like my credit cards were charged either (Visa or AmEx), so not clear to me the credit card companies were even contacted.
Same here. Just tried Amazon Visa and Charles Schwab Debit Visa. Same error, google lens translated to "Credit Card Verification Failed."
Only my Visas and Discover Card don't have foreign transaction fees, and none work with Suica.
Hey, I am trying to use this to download a Suica card to my apple wallet and the UI is different after I accept the 3rd type of card. I don't get the pop up - do you have an updated video for this new version or know where to look?
Is there a work-around for an iPhone 8 (maxes out at iOS 16.7.7) so I can add a Suica to apple wallet and load with a US Visa?

I tried the work around but it won't accept my visa, using iphone 8 and a german visa... iphone 8 only updated to 16.7 might this be a problem?

Hi, I was able to load $ to Suica card using my foreign visa card via the Apple wallet app. However, When I try to register the card via the Suica App, I encounter error for putting the surname and first name. It also won't allow me to input USA zip code or phone #. Do you have any idea why it does not work?
How far in advance of our trip can we do this? Does the 28 days start the first time you use the digital card or when you add money to it? Also, will my AmEX work for topping up the cards? I know that AmEx isn't widely accepted in Japan but can it be used on the Suica cards in my apple wallet? Thank. you for your help!
Hi, you can do this anytime. These cards don't expire like the tourist ones. I would expect that if AmEX works with ApplePay, then you shouldn't have an issue! Please let me know how you go.

They still declined my Visa credit card through the app. Why is that?
I tried to add a VISA card and it doesn’t work. My IOS is 17.4. I got the error “クレジットカードの認証に失敗しました”
So it gives me the Ba-ding apple payment noise with a tick but then shows me a credit card verification failed message straight after. Tried my visa and mastercard debit cards, both show this message and no card is added. Nothing seems to have come from my accounts either. Ideas?

@@celinathaomy9843I did not. I was able to get my corporate Visa to work in the Apple wallet before I left the US. Other colleagues corporate Visas did not work until after we landed in Japan. Their charges were accepted from the US but remained pending until we arrived.
i think you have to click both (one after the other) and scroll all the way to the bottom (to read the terms of use, I believe) and then the top right characters lights up then you can click and proceed to next page
Yes, this looks like it has changed and feedback I am hearing is that you need to click on each terms of use document and scroll down to complete.
Have a mastercard and even after having latest update and going through workaround, card is processed at least but still declined. is there a reason for this?
Hi, are there any further restrictions with your bank for international payments? Generally Mastercards have not been having a problem so it might be a specific situation with your bank or card.
@@AutomationFixation i am with a friend who tried with a different mastercard bank to mine and also didn’t work so i think it is unlikely to be the bank. went and got a physical one anyway so all good in the end.

I had this exact same issue, and it did turn out to be the bank. After the security check was lifted, the transaction went through and now the SUICA Card is in my Wallet. Sweet! Thank you for this excellent video and these comments!!!

Without Suica, you can still buy single-use tickets. There have been difficulties with buying physical Suicas due to IC shortages. Having a Suica helps to avoid carrying coins and trying to work out the cost to your destination with a single-use ticket.

I got to 3:32 of the video, but did not receive this option to transfer to my iphone wallet. It just brought me back to the page where I can choose the different card options. What happened to the funds that I was able to add?

Same is happening to me. One important thing to note is that I don't already have this card. When I open the Japanese app, the card on the screen doesn't show any value in front of it like the one in the video shows.
I ended up opening an Apple card, that allowed me to load the Suica transit card when I open my Wallet on my iPhone. I tried my CapitalOne Visa and Discover card, neither of which worked, but they had 0% foreign transaction fees. My sister used her CapitalOne mastercard, which worked.
Go to your Apple Wallet history; it's likely that the transaction didn't go through (this is happening to me).

How can you get your suica card number to add to EX app
Hi, while I haven't tried this, I would assume you could create the Suica from the app and then register in the EX app. From the Suica app, you can tap on the card and then there is a SuicaID 番号 which is the card number. If you create a Suica via the Wallet app, you are not able to see the SuicaID card number. Hope this works and please reply back and let everyone know if it worked!

@@18pinaychick i used the suica app (tough to use because its all in japanese) and it only let me charge up the card once. Took many attempts to actually get it to go through. If you manage to get it to work I would charge it up for enough to get you through your trip

Hello! Yes, this can be done via the Suica app and was created using iOS 17.1.2 and version 3.2.2 of the Suica App.

Hi. Yes, that’s the second part of my video. The workaround shows via the Suica app to use foreign credit cards that are not supported in Apple Pay via the wallet.

I followed all of your steps, but when trying to use my Visa card in the app to top up, it says payment accepted on the Apple Screen, but then in the Suica app itself it shows an error :/

What about for Android?
There is a Mobile Suica app for Android (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilesuica.msb.android&hl=en&gl=US&pli=1). While I haven't tried it, the reviews do not paint a very good picture. It seems to have a lot of bugs and issues.
How abt android phones?
Hi, there is an app for Android, but it is apparently fairly buggy and unreliable.
I am at a loss to understand why there hasn't been a solution developed for Android users from outside Japan.
While there is a Mobile Suica app for Android (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobilesuica.msb.android&hl=en&gl=US&pli=1), the reviews are not favourable and it looks like JR has not paid a lot of attention to Android.

If you are referring to within the Suica app and if you are using Apple Pay, then it is just a matter of selecting a different card. However, if you have registered a credit card, then I believe you can click from the main Suica app screen on the button in the bottom right (チケット購入Suica管理) then scroll down to Registered Credit Card Information Change (登録クレジットカード情報変更) and then enter in your new credit card details. Hopefully this works!
