About that hearing, that's standard for a congressional hearing because theres a disconnect between the witness and the representative. The representative is VERY crunched for time and wants very short succinct answers in the form of a yes or a no but the witness more often than not wants to delve into the nuance and "save face" by offering an explanation. In court, any court, congressional or otherwise, everyone making the inquiries do not want any more information than what they prompt you for. Offering more information than what was asked is simply not acceptable in a hearing format because its highly probable the witness will try to confuse you with detail. Basically, the more opportunity you have to speak, the more opportunity you have to lie - or incriminate yourself.

However, I have been studying law to a degree, and I do want to mention that when a person is not an American citizen, such as CEO Shou Chew, they are not legally entitled to a fair trial. Which means they can be interrupted as many times as the prosecutor thinks are adequate or appropriate given the specific situation. In fact, even Americans can be interrupted to a degree during a trial. Yeah, that's my two cents... As a science teacher here in Arizona, the attention span issues are problematic but handleable in all honesty. If you connect with your audience (students in my case) they pay attention. If you ban something people will find ways around it.

About that hearing, that's standard for a congressional hearing because theres a disconnect between the witness and the representative. The representative is VERY crunched for time and wants very short succinct answers in the form of a yes or a no but the witness more often than not wants to delve into the nuance and "save face" by offering an explanation. In court, any court, congressional or otherwise, everyone making the inquiries do not want any more information than what they prompt you for. Offering more information than what was asked is simply not acceptable in a hearing format because its highly probable the witness will try to confuse you with detail. Basically, the more opportunity you have to speak, the more opportunity you have to lie - or incriminate yourself.

A large portion of the stupid questions are their to establish a fact and not genuinely asking them, in court you have to establish something before it can be used
The sad part is this is pretty much how every single congressional hearing goes. They ask dumb and repetitive question, they are extremely rude and cut off the person trying to answer the questions, and they never get to the bottom of anything.

@@keiytofficial agreed… and there used to be a time where you could escape politics by watching sports or movies but now politics has found it’s way into every facet of life. It keeps people riled up and at each other’s throats. Divide and conquer is their game and unfortunately we fall for it every time.

Go back to even the sitcoms of the 50’s and 60’s, plenty of controversies with race and political themes. Many of the people like Betty white were famous for political controversy in their works

I agree with almost everything Charlie is saying. However, I have been studying law to a degree, and I do want to mention that when a person is not an American citizen, such as CEO Shou Chew, they are not legally entitled to a fair trial. Which means they can be interrupted as many times as the prosecutor thinks are adequate or appropriate given the specific situation. In fact, even Americans can be interrupted to a degree during a trial. Yeah, that's my two cents...

As a science teacher here in Arizona, the attention span issues are problematic but handleable in all honesty. If you connect with your audience (students in my case) they pay attention. If you ban something people will find ways around it.
Hope you realize the attention span issues isn't the only problem right, at least not for now. This kids will have a harder time learning in the future due to this and that will make america generally dumber in a few decades, while the chinese are focusing in studies and advancement of technology and the worst part is china will know more about all the kids using tiktok now than their parents.
