    You missed the ultimate killer. The TIMING CHAIN! If you are considering buying the L322 you must ask if the timing chain guides were replaced AND if they were replaced before, or after failure. If not, factor in 3 to 5k to fix. More if you want to replace more wear and tear items while they are in there. Which is recommended.

    Biggest problem is the timing chain issue. Make sure to check the maintenance records for length between oil changes. If the previous owner followed Land Rover guidelines and changed oil every 15,000 miles….avoid this car because if it hasn’t been replaced it will need it soon. This length between oil changes allows the oil to carbon up and lose its ability to lubricate. Not keeping the chain lubricated properly will cause excessive wear. I recommend changing your oil every 5,000 miles.

    Great video. The rear brake pipes also tend to corrode heavily in the centre pipe
    The L320 model used lead wiring for the ride height sensors. Water causes the wiring to rust = suspension issues
    The 2006-2009 models also have a lot of brake master cylinder issues
    All range rovers work great when daily driven. If you plan on buying one for weekends only then forget it, just bite the bullet and drive the car regular. I know the MPG isnt great but if you leave them sitting around thats when majority of issues occur

    Just Got a 2006 Range Rover Sport HSE for ¼ of bluebook value [ current BB value is 10 to 15 thousand USD it is immaculate inside and out so it is on the higher end of that ) price was low because of oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets and it is smoking from the driver side exhaust ( yes, only the driver side ) [ likely failed valve guide seals due to being parked on a hill leaning towards the passenger side for 6 months ]
    I got it so cheap because the repair shop gave the previous owner an estimate of over $2,000 USD just to repair the oil leaks and another $500 USD for an ignition lock cylinder ( which is perfectly functional , this particular issue is well known to most RR techs it's a failed steering lock system not allowing the key to turn more than ½ way to position 1. Which I Fixed in under 15 minutes with a spray of
    ' PB Blaster! ' penetrating oil into the solenoid on the steering column )
    So, That is the background, Now
    Here's the thing that I wanted to share, the air suspension is not functional,
    the compressor is functioning properly and neither the air shocks nor the lines are leaking.... the problem is with the
    ' electronic air ride control valve assembly ' it doesn't respond to the control signal that is sent from the control module..... ( verified signal at the plug with my multimeter ) can anyone tell me where a place to get a new valve that isn't over $400 ? I really don't have the funds to pay that much for it and I don't want to keep using the manual lift control that I have built to make it drivable...

    I've worked on RRS and seeing oil leaks in a few minutes is not possible. The undershield just gets in your way and catches all the oil up? It may look clean, but it's not. Don't you know the saying : "If you own a Land Rover and there's no oil on the ground, then it means you have no more oil in" ;)

    • @jojomorgan8556
      @jojomorgan8556 Před rokem +1

      Agree 100%... but I would add that if it is over 150,000 miles and it isn't smoking from at least one side it's also probably out of oil...
      [ as a side note: the saying " if it's not leaking it is out of oil " also applies to
      ' Detroit Diesel ' engines as well... and most Chevrolet products over 5 years old... ]

    Hello I am very surprised that you do not mention the timing belt issue on the 5.0 engine... it is by far the biggest problem you may encounter and it is the most expensive to fix ! All 5.0 are going to face this problem because of tensioner / guide that are very poor quality. Also on diesel 2.7 v6 'ex ford psa) engine you still face the "lottery" of the manifold breaks !

      5 litre is quite rare in the UK.

  • @blackwinggarage
    @blackwinggarage Před rokem +2

    Cam BELTS are not a problem...there are none. There are however timing chains and plastic guides. The guides fail causing rattle on cold startup and potentially timing issues if the chain slackens sufficiently and the chain jumps a cam phaser tooth. This affected certain years (2009-2012 I believe)...essentially the Jaguar AJ133 engine until the DA VIN prefix. The repair is costly. This was largely addressed by the 2014 model year in the L494.

    • @hughmarcus1

    Hi thanks for the video. I've 2 questions. When I drive over 120 km I get a speed alert message showing the 120 km traffic sign in the dashboard and a orange triangle. I can't find the setting to delete this.
    2 when I drive over 140 km the temperature is heating up of the engine and it runs towards 90 degrees. When slowing down it goes back to the level it should go. Do you happen to know what this might be? Will go to the garage in the next days but thought I would ask

    • @DRIVECARSPOV
      @DRIVECARSPOV  Před rokem

      Hi
      In the screen in-front of you where the speedo is displayed. You should have an option for speed limiter options. Make sure that’s turned off so you don’t get the alert. What year is your Range Rover ?
      Also the temperature going up maybe be an issue as it won’t matter what speed you are doing, temp gauge should always stay in the middle or where it is suppose to be. Have the car checked coolant leaks.

    • @DRIVECARSPOV

    Hey man your video was very helpful. I'm thinking of buying a 2006 range rover sport which has a faulty gear. The miles on the engine is less but the gear is gone. The air suspension is compromised aswell I think. I would really appreciate your help with this purchase and a rough idea on the cost I'm looking into? And any other problems I could expect with a range rover sport 4.2 supercharged ? I hear alot from people, not to buy one as it dies on you anytime randomly.

    • @DRIVECARSPOV
      @DRIVECARSPOV  Před 2 lety +3

      It’s very unusual for gearboxes go bad on Range Rovers, but if that’s the case then you’d need to look on eBay for a used gearbox plus fitting fees. Suspension compressor is around £400 from main dealer but deals can be found online. I would go for a Diesel engine as they are more durable and last longer but again all Range Rovers come with issues so make sure you have someone check the engine health for you before commit to buying.

      Hi Ali, the 3.0TDv6 or SDV6 are timing belt driven which need to be replaced around every 60k-80k miles. If they snap, say goodbye to your engine so it’s vital you change them according to manufacture requirements. The 3.6 TDV8 engines are chain driven and if you regularly service them on time they shouldn’t need replacing. Hope that answered your question.
