What I really like about your boat tours is that the whole time you’re talking and showing us around you are filming the boat, not yourself talking about it to camera. Other CZcamsrs need to take note and get out of the way of the camera. Great stuff, really enjoyed the tour.
Awsome boat,Toby, I've sailed and raced a lot of cats and tris over the years, but modern designs keep getting better and better. The 60's a work art though.
A trimaran is always a thing in itself. Thanks Toby
Thanks for the tour and overview. Need a sail test.
I can't wait for you to sail it!
thoughts on crossings, circumnav. with this particular model...
Ok for a weekend 😊
Another excellent video. The Rapido is pretty, but is there any information regarding the beam of the main center hull? I've been looking at the website, but nothing is listed anywhere, regarding the measurements of the living areas.
I would really like a demonstration of how the lee boards operate. I have experience with scow racing and currently sail a corsair 24. If my current lottery ticket pays off I would be very interested in this boat. Maybe santa claus will step up.
Hi Toby was it tiller steering and was there a steering system inside as well I didn’t spot anything
Yes Darren - tiller steering. See 6mins 20 in. But no there's no internal steering
so, new mechanism for folding the floaters? where does that leave the original one? are the owners of Rapido machines with the existing mechanism to worry about its reliability? the existing mechanism sure operates fast and without the complications you describe.
BTW, hope to see you do a several-days review of Riley and Elayna's machine.
Awesome tri! Thanks for reviewing it👍 Just the one amendment… it appears to be a Takacat, not a Zapcat.
more expensive than dragonfly? the dragon is beautifully built, this looks more home built?
Interesting. Certainly a sporty boat, personnaly I'm not sure I would love to spend my holydays in a white bathroom but it's a question of tastes 😄
There are other colors than white you know... They could just as easily paint it in any color. And it probably wouldn't cost that much more. And as long as you specify light weight veneers - the entire interior could probably just as well be wood clad if you so desire - for an additional cost of course...
Biggy want
Excellent day sailer or weekend sailer... Hate to think of the price for a day sailer though... Yikes!!!
What’s all that in the sky? 😮💀
I prefer the Dragonfly 40 c
Horses for courses - Dragonfly 40C is a million plus and certainly not as rapid. Both are seriously nice boat though👍
This Rapido seems to be some 80% of the cost of the Dragonfly. Considering the total yearly production of both of these yards, don't you think there's room for both of them?... ;-)
I mean the performance is amazing, no doubt. But I think it just looks oudated and cheap. Like a decksaloon version of a 1995 Dragonfly.
I'd prefer the Marsaudon Composites (I think) behind it
What else do you want a tri to look like?😂 Simple, fast, and a great cruising boat. Perfect👍
Especialy the Dragonfly 40 looks amazing. The New Corsair, Waarship TR36 and R42.... All of them Performance trimarans, they look so much nicer, luxurious, modern and sportier.
I bet the Rapido 40 is a amazing piece of kit, but other boats of the same class look much nicer in my oppinion :)
@@maximilianehlken725 Sure, they look better but have you seen the interiors of the Waarship or R42? They’re horrendous, and racers partially turned into cruising boats. A Rapido 40 is a cruising boat that also does 20kts. I know which one I’d rather liveaboard…
@@maximilianehlken725 How long is the Corsair? 37 feet? This Rapido is 3 feet longer. And does the R42 exist yet? This Rapido seems to be some 80% of the cost of the Dragonfly. Considering the total yearly production of both of these yards, don't you think there's room for both of them?... ;-)
Now, I'm a big fan of multi-hulls, so don't take this the wrong way. There is just one issue I have with Tri-hulls vs Cats, and that is the lack of room on them. If you are going to race around the bay and dock up after the weekend is over then what you have there is great, but as a live aboard boat, I'll pass on the lack of room. I'll keep my cat thanks as most of your time is spent on the hook.
Ive seen more space on 32ft boats..
those tramps need a QC and set them to the adamas so they spread out more... then when you need to compress your beam, QC over to the narrow postion.. really messin with my senses having such narrow tramps near the bow
They need an interior designer. Looks so industrial
I disagree. I think it looks modern and practical/utilitarian. Regardless... For a price I'm betting they will build whatever design your heart desires as long as it doesn't exceed certain weight limitations. And considering the total price of the boat, that will probably not cost you that much more... See for example the 60ft Rapido that is being built for the CZcams channel Sailing La Vagabond. That boat will look different inside compared to this one...
@@angela1984a Agree with you. Some people apparently don't like modern, clean and practical design. I do.
Just not practical for long term cruising.
Aren't most people out in boats couples?... I'm sure A LOT of couples have cruised in boats smaller and slower than this. What kind of distance can you cover in a day with this boat? What other 40ft sail boat can cover distances that this Rapido 40 can cover in a day? What other 40ft sailboat can actually sail at decent speed in light wind conditions?...
Sorry, but that bow is dangerous.
I've been on bows where there was just a slight convex curve to the deck@@LoanwordEggcorn and let me tell you, just a little bit of water and it's as slippery as goose shit. THAT deck is going to be slip and slide central.
@@BillyReed68 Rapido's boats have won tons of races and sailed probably millions of miles already. If that were a problem, wouldn't someone have noticed?
If IKEA designed a boat.
At least IKEA is not operating out of a Communist Country...
I'll trust my Scandinavian brothers any day over Marxist insanity!
Who is my sugar daddy?
A little bit boring, isn't it ?
Way overpriced for what you get. However if you want to go fast that’s the price you must pay.
@@carlospereira9838In your opinion. Carbon and performance cost money. If you want to go sailing cheap, buy a Bav / Bene / generic white plastic boat.
I sail an older cheap Bene First 501 white plastic boat. If money were no object I would still not buy one of these. I am not in a hurry and prefer a bit more comfort. Having said that I am in my seventies.😀@@PN_48
over priced boat
sounds like a description of a piece of plastic crap that will break in no more than two years because the weather has gotten a lot wilder due to warming
By that logic every other sail boat is going to break as well. The difference with this tri as opposed to most other 40ft sail boats, is that it will open up more options to avoid bad weather due to the higher speeds it can sail at.
@@yachtingworld This is not a grandma's sock, to be knitted only from threads or fibres)) carbon fiber filler. plastic is a binder. and these are all the typical problems of grp/crp hulls, only more expensive: osmosis, in general, hydrogen-oxygen bonds that are formed in each composite body under the influence of water. And in general: plastic hulls of ships are not waterproof. Yes, it shocked me too. They always let water through slowly. So slow that it seems like they're not letting you through
@@_G_R_ Check out Sailing Uma here on CZcams. They just did a ultrasound inspection of their ~50 year old plastic "coastal cruiser" - a Pearson 36 I believe. That plastic hull seemed to be in pretty good shape... Good enough for them to continue on with a complete refit of that hull...
Plastic composite boats are highly durable. Many plastic composite boats built more than 50 years ago still work just fine.
You know you've made it when you get a shout out from Toby. Great tour mate, well done.
Ha! I could say the same about yous! Thanks. When are we having a sail on your 60 then...?! 😉
And thanks @sailinglavagabonde6113 for the drone footage!
Make it happen! After grafting some foils on to the 60 🎉
