  • "The reason that I even started making music by myself was 'cause I was really mentally unwell, but I didn't really know how to communicate. I was like really depressed and suicidal for most of high school. I spent a lot of time thinking that there was no other option besides to have terrible thoughts that ruined my day. I did therapy for a long time. I feel like it gave me the tools, and just the knowledge that you can actually change the way you think. I just started writing songs 'cause it was like the only place that felt appropriate to be expressing the things that I was thinking about." - ‪@waterfromyoureyes3120‬

Today, we're excited to release our next video in partnership with the ‪@988Lifeline‬ 9 featuring indie rock favorites Water From Your Eyes. In this installment of our 'Song That Found Me At The Right Time' series, they cover the Ween classic "If You Could Save Yourself (You'd Save Us All)" and talk about their individual and collective mental health experiences, ranging from managing suicidal thoughts in high school to substance use.
Water From Your Eyes is Rachel Brown and Nate Amos, and they make music that is sometimes undefinable but that captures the zeitgeist- experimental, dancey, jagged, melodic, sad and dry-witted. They released their dark yet satirical album "Everyone's Crushed" in 2023 to critical acclaim but here at SoS we have been devoted fans since seeing them perform a few years back when they opened for ‪@catelebon‬ . Their humorous approach of tackling solemn subject matter caught our attention. We were thrilled when they agreed to work with us.
Their spin on this Ween song, about the bitter and painful end of a relationship, makes the track even more emotional and fatalistic as Brown's vocal delivery, though candy sweet, crushes you.

Ya I've been a huge ween fan my whole life. Quebec is my favorite album and this song especially saved my life. I have to say im not a fan of this cover at all. Feels like everything good was destroyed from the original and is impressively weak for how impactful the original progressively goes. I just don't think the vocalist was a right fit for the song. Just not feeling it for the meaning you guys are trying to stuff into it

I know the monotone thing is a vibe, but could really use some expressiveness here.

You took one of my favorite songs and sucked all the energy out of it. Fell completely flat.
