heyhey! so here's some notes for this animatic:
it's hard to interpret the timeline of things, but I do believe that simon worked with the real bobby fulbright for a small about of time before bobby died in the game. in this animatic, bobby really came to care about simon before the Phantom came along. and because the Phantom exactly copies whoever they're impersonating, I thought it ok that Simon came to care about bobby just as strongly, but not until after he "died". i am NOT a phantomquill shipper, that's not at all what this is. this is just simon coming to care about bobby but just a bit too late.
oh yeah, the ending here is obviously like a deviation from canon, bc in my cool and awesome world, real Bobby is alive.
obviously, in canon, bobby fulbright is dead (im pretty sure it was explicitly stated), but idgaf lol, so in this animatic, he was just a random unidentified john doe that had been found nearly dead in the woods and was in a coma for the entirety of dual destinies. then in the meantime his ghost/consciousness followed simon and the phantom (i was inspired by a MDZS fanfic called "asymtotic"). the phantom meant to kill bobby, but bc Bobby Fulbright is a baddie, he lived.
I have a lot of feelings about BF and this is the culmination of my Sad Tragic feelings. I truly believe that the phantom can perfectly replicate his marks, so I do believe that the bobby fulbright in the game was exactly what he would have been like, with only VERY subtle nuances.
he really believed in justice, but in canon he didn't get any. he was just another victim of the phantom, and his name was completely dragged through the mud bc of it. which is so tragic, don't look at me :,,,(
again, this animatic is basically bc I was sad about bobby fulbright's fate, so I changed it heehee.

I love constructive criticism, but please know this took me 3 months to do because I've never done art on this sort of scale before. the art and such near the end is more what level I'm at now.

I would pay money to change the plot to Detective FB is in a coma and wakes up with Simon by his bedside instead of being dead, we didn’t even know how he died! (Tho it’s alluded to that it’s the Phantom but still!)
YOU AND ME BOTH! We know its likely the phantom, but it hurts bc no one even noticed! meaning its likely bobby didn't have very many close connections! which hey! really sucks!
that would have been so sweet😭 it isn't fair that the best character in the entirety of dual destinies turns out to be someone we never even meet in the game...
I really appreciate you taking the time to make this. Fulbright was my favorite character in dual destinies, and there's almost no fanart or animations for him anywhere. I miss him lmao

THIS IS SO GOOD OMG !! the real bobby keeping simon company as a kinda-spirit is such an interesting concept and your visuals for it are all so amazing and super well drawn !! i literally finished dd last night and i felt so underwhelmed when they didnt tell us more about the original fulbright and now after watching this, i feel like THIS is the piece i was missing to be completely satisfied with the story SPECIALLY WITH THE LAST SCENES AFTER EMA NOTIFIES THE COURT WHILE THE SONG GETS MORE INTENSE OH GOSH THE ~DRAMA~ OF IT ALL *CHEF KISS* AND AND AND SIMON HUGGING BOBBY AT THE END AWWW ;;; so yeah !! thank u so much for sharing ur work, i loved this !!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! i know exactly how you felt.i was like "yay we won the case!" but at what cost.... we never Truly figured out what happened to the real bobby fulbright, other than the fact that he was dead. ik the effect was to show that not everyone got a happy ending, but i said "no fuck that" and became delusional for 3 months and this is what came of it. im glad you liked it!
i should also mention that i was HEAVILY inspired by a MDZS fanfic called asymtotic, no spoilers but i got alot of help there about the concept of ghosts as a representation of unresolved desires.

I’m so glad to hear about other people being heartbroken by Dual Destinies’ twist because it absolutely shattered me (and your headcanon is absolutely beautiful). The idea that the real Fulbright was just as kind and silly was kinda the only thing keeping me going LOL

Holy fuck I actually just rewatched it for the first time in months... literally like okay the beginning is Not Great but holy SHIT the fucking build up to the end always GETS me. thank YOU for reminding me that this is the Real Canon Ending to DD.

literally, as soon as i saw this man on screen I was like "this guy is going straight into my pocket" and then I finished the game and took 3 mental health days off from work
oh my god I might cry, this was beautiful and I love this and I love Bobby Fulbright (and also blackbright) so this is just EVERYTHING to me!
I am extremely, extremely late- but I just wanted to say thank you so much for this, you deserve so much more recognition, over the months I always find myself coming back to this animatic and every time it make me sob and smile with just the most bittersweet feeling in the world-

DD is underrated in my opinion and I truly wish to see more for this series entirely! I completely understand how u feel. In the beginning i knew i wanted to make an au where bobby was alive ofc, but with the lack of information regarding his fate, i was given both nothing to work with, and yet alot to play around with. i stg the amount if times i went back to his wiki page and that orca case will literally haunt me. i do believe that in the orca case we got to see actual bobby, but we may never know, alas.

Yeah I’m really sad he’s never even mentioned about again despite his circumstance and was just brushed under the rug with ease- :c But it gives a lot for people and fans to speculate and theories! I will still hardcore. also the ‘i know who I am now-‘ from him as he smiles finally free and his smile falters when realising his circumstance- and then he disappears- I do not cry easy and yet you got me bawling! That part got me bawling- and where the beat hits each time as they walk with Bobby following behind it just- chefs kiss-

Capcom did Bobby (and Clay, but this is about Bobby-) dirty by doing this to him- Like bro he was so goofy and I wasn't instantly captivated by his character cuz tbh I thought he was weird at first but as I progressed the game I started to love him more and more and now he's one of my favorite characters in ace attorney
I just want him to be alive and happy- and I want Simon to be happy too :'D cuz I headcanon that Bobby and Simon knew eachother for like half of their lives until Bobby's death and all that jazz

OK! Now that I've been polite, it's time for me to be neurodivergent.
UR SO RIGHT! Capcom has my deepest love and most vile hatred for what they did to my poor babygirl bobby fulbright. When I first started playing the game, I was like "uh where is Mr man man gumshoe at?? Hello???" but after I heard Bobby's theme again and again I was like "oh so THIS is Mr babygirl. ok. I get it now" He's truly my favorite little meow meow I love him so much. PLUS! His death really was so sad, like, from what we've gathered, he died alone, and no one was close enough to him that anyone really noticed the change. I tell myself it's bc the Phantom is rlly good at what he does, but in reality, its just that no one was Bobby's BFF which makes me go boohoo like a big baby.
SECONDLY!! I love bobby and simons dynamic, ur headcanon is actually fully canon bc shu takumi told me so himself. The ONLY reason that I only made it that simon and bobby only knew each other for a year in the animatic is bcuz 1. its sad 2. I was sad and 3. it fit well narratively tbh. it's my world and I get to choose the tragic relationship.

@@riverrlethe2116 God, I actually was spoiled about the whole plot twist w/ the phantom and the real Bob actually being dead and I am so mad about it cuz then it all wouldhave been so much more impactful, though I was pretty sad when I actually saw the truth revealed in game tbh- I was in denial the whole time after I saw the spoilers, I was like "no, that can't be true!! Not my scrunkly blorbo man!!! not Bobby!!! He's a great guy, nothing will go wrong, surely!!!"

at first when I wasn't spoiled/in denial of the truth I confess I sorta shipped Bobby and Simon 😭 (I still do now, but with a whole new level of denial and aus like "wdym Bobby Fulbright is dead!??!???1/1 He and Simon are happily married 🥰🥰 The Phantom?? Who is that? lol!1!!1!")
Though I just do love them together in any sense, a romantic pairing or not- The way Simon called him "Foolbright" too was just MMMMMM DELICIOUS

I like the way the walking scene reappears, where Pahntom is first, then Blackquill, then ghost Fulbright. Also when he helps the Phantom get caught, and when he's actually alive all along. Best parts in a good animatic.

i wanted to say thank you for making this. it's a really good animatic and the story you've crafted here is similarly great. it's believable in terms of ace attorney level stuff - like ghosts are real so why shouldn't ppl in comas be them i guess? idk my point is that this is great. years ago i tried to make an au where both bobby and clay lived bc why not but never got anywhere & today randomly saw your animatic and this brought back good memories so thank you for that too.
also i can really tell that you took your time on this and it shows and i'll try to mention some parts i really liked because like, the staging of this is fantastic for it being your first animatic. it's really really good. ok actually all of it's great so to start i'll mention that i love how seamless your transistions are? at no point was the change from scene to scene jarring- ok so past that i like the phantom being signified w/ red that's cool, and the way bobby as a ghost is like floating after simon in those scenes and then :-) to go to the end i also really like when ema comes in but before that the way you did the courtroom scenes are also super good. and overall i'd just say i love how thoughtful you were about shading and stuff.

@@denydestiny im so glad! like bobby was my little meow meow. while i played the game i was just constantly waiting for him to show up, i genuinely can't understand how some folks hate him, hes so silly. and omg ur so right, the entire cast of this game was so good imo, and they all got major trauma bc shu takumi was being a little silly and funny.
i got into ace attorney late in the game, basically last year, so i thought everything that could be made by fans, was already made. but when i got to bobby fanart and such, i found such little content about him as a person, just him, no phantom bs, that it made my heart break just a little more. and this is the exact reason why i made this animatic! bc i was so frustrated and upset w the lack of clarity surrounding his death that i essentially blocked it out and rewrote it so that he actually is alive and well lmao. also ty for subscribing! i hope to make more animatics at some point but who knows lmao.
to answer ur question, i love bobby as a person, but also his story is just so good. the possibilities w his character and his backstory are endless. hes a good guy and he is definitely alive and not dead :,)))! so bobby is number one, w athena and simon being close seconds. simon bc i just. he likes birds! funky bird man. and athena bc how can u not like her. she is me. she is my best friend. I also really enjoy the trio of junie, robin, and hugh, they are also pretty silly.
i would mention clay on the list, but we didnt really get to know him that well, which is also a heartbreak akin to bobby if that makes sense. like apollo and clay were bffs, and then suddenly, he j gets killed off to further apollo's character development. whew boy that sucks so bad in an emotional way.

@@riverrlethe2116 i've been a fan of ace attorney since about 2009, when i was about 11/12 and i bring that up bc i grew up looking into fancases and fanfic and stuff and have kind of seen the fandom evolve in real time - in 2009 almost everyone hated apollo bc aj:aa was the newest game, but ppl seem to like him now - so i think in a few years more people will come around on bobby. i also think since the main series went from 3 games w/ gumshoe to 1 w/ ema that ppl are more like :/ on bobby bc he's new. i personally like him a lot because he's just a funny guy. he's ace attorney's detective at it's like most base form. he's there to help :-) and he's confused, but he's got the right spirit
also yea, i do wanna apologize on behalf of the fandom bc when dual destinies was at it's height it seemed to me like most people either side-lined bobby for the phantom reveal (which is a shame bc the idea of the phantom is neat, but like we didn't get any hints about bobby's fate until last second, which is a shame) or they just kind of moved on from him because he was gone and phoenix and co took the phantom down. i also want to apologize to you because fans (like me, i was one of them) latched onto clay terran - who i like in concept even though i know he was only supposed to be a plot device - over bobby, who we actually got to spend time with,,, it might also be that he's hard to draw. for me it was because bobby's hard for me to draw- you did great on him and everyone else in here, btw, i think it needs to be said
also i agree with you, bobby is okay now. he and simon will probably continue to be menaces (simon on purpose and bobby on accident) and they'll go solve lots of cases together. he's out there and your canon is my canon too now. i don't have much else to say but thank you for replying to my comments and i'm mentally shaking your hand because same. dual destinies is a game w/ so much potential, but it falls a little flat and the cast does heavy lifting to support that so in the end it's still pretty good.
this was so good😭 it has been showing up on my recommended as long as i've been into ace attorney but i never watched it bc i hadn't played dd yet, well now it showed up again and i could actually watch it!! holy shit it's awesome, i love that you gave him a happy ending! he deserved one🥺
