Ever since I started using my bullet journal in the traditional way I make much better use of it. And, I'm much more efficient with not trying to make it pretty. In the end, I find the simplicity is pretty!

This video has all the good things: notebook porn, organization porn, some neatly straight free-hand lines, pretty handwriting, some asmr, some ambiance jazz, a nice chat. Just 👌
I heard you were ill, but I had no idea it was a kidney infection! :( Hope you're healed from that.
I rewatched the workshop last week and I got a nice system for organizing my essay and non-fiction writing. I really want to thank you for that workshop, it was *really* good. 🖤

I FEEL you on the "various shades of Hell" comment. From your moving vlogs it seemed like you and your ex had an amicable or at least respectful break up, same with my ex and I. But jeeze, how things devolved (for me, at least). You think things are working out but then another wrench just gets thrown at you. But moving up and moving on!

Thank you so much Rachael; it's so nice to see simple journalist's still in love with their process. I've been struggling the past few months with intense depression and anxiety and so my bullet journal has become much simpler by necessity. Part of me felt guilty, but part of me was glad to be able to use it as it was intended. And honestly, watching this has made me want to try the graph tracker and use simple things like printed pictures or postcards for color instead of worrying about making it look beautiful all the time. Thank you for sharing! Blessed be cinnamon bun.

Even though you think your spreads are boring or simple, I find them helpful and insightful. You know how to be introspective and you have wisdom how to not make yourself guilty for not doing something. I like how you said you don’t preemptively set up spreads in case you will use them. I feel like people do that, then feel shame for not following through. I’m sorry you’re going through a hard time. Keep posting things like this please 💕

Finally I discovered someone that appreciates the not preplanned pages of the original bullet journal method! ❤️ I think the key isn't to necessarily keep it undecorated but keep it flexible, without preplan a fixed space for eg a day/week/month or various collection pages. 😀 Also, I think the cover getting sticky/dirty is a Leuchtturm hardcover thing, I had the same problem with it. I prefer using Moleskine notebooks to be honest, I also like the relatively bad paper quality and how it looks when it is fully used -unpopular opinion, I know! ☺️❤️ Take care!!

Your bullet journal realisation videos are what finally convinced me to try one and I love it. I'm not artistic at all and the pretty journals were a huge Nope from me.
I ended up getting a Rocketbook Everlast because using Frixon pens (which, to my utter delight, also come in colours and highlighters!) if I make a mistake I can erase it, and when the book is full I can wipe every page clean and start again. It's pleasing on many levels.

It's also interesting to me seeing what other people get out of bullet journaling. You mentioned marking the passage of time a lot, I have kids so their unstoppable growth marks time for me 😂 what I've gotten most since starting is making sure I do things for myself sometimes, not just endless tasks and housework (though it's also useful for ensuring that gets done too!)

Fun fact- Don't throw a hot match into a waste paper bin. If conditions are just right, the heat from the match head can ignite paper, and you'll have a roaring fire. By letting the match cool before putting it in the bin will eliminate this risk. I've seen people put some spit in the match head... this cools the match head, reducing the chance of ignition.

Lovely video, thank you. I'm just getting into bullet journaling. I watched a video of yours from 2019 (one where bullet journaling was mixed with wanting to help the world shift away from capitalism and the internalized programming about productivity). I scanned some of the book on bullet journaling that you had behind you in that video and didn't feel drawn to his writing or where he seemed to be coming from. Do you have a video where you explain the basics, including the different kinds of tasks and how you indicate them?

hey! I don’t I’m afraid. I really do recommend the Bullet Journal Method book, even if you aren’t super enamored with his voice it really is the best guide out of there. The first half covers the how, the second half goes deeper into theory and reflection so you could easily skip that.

I start a bullet journal in September for the new uni year, I’m really interested in seeing how I change using it over the year. I am adding art currently as they are a form of selfcare, which I may not remember to do otherwise as I’m a science student. I have done two weekly so far and have already learnt quite a lot, like I need a general weekly to do list. Uni hasn’t started yet so I’ve have no need for daily logs as of yet.

Thank you for this lovely video! I'm watching while setting up my monthly spread for september.
Keeping track of time is one of the main reasons I use my bullet jounral too and like @Maria Lønborg said, when you lose the daily routine and time management that school/work gives you it sends you into a weird state of floating around and not feeling connected with the passing of time.
I'm really glad bullet journaling has helped me and others with this, finding something that works for you (whether that's a grounding morning routine, a journal or a specific workout regime) can do wonders with calming stress and reducing unnecessary feeling of uncertainty. Long comment, thanks for reading!

    Hey Rachel! Love your vids!
I was wondering how you determine how many weeks are in a month for counting the weeks? Particularly in transitions between months. If the last 4 days of April are Sun-Wed do you count that week as April, or March because it starts that week?
