  • The really big question is, can I cook can biscuits in a dutch oven without burning them? AS I am learning the fin art of dutch oven baking a question came up, can you cook can biscuits in a dutch oven?
    I am not sure why that question can up but it did so I set out to find out if it is possible to cook can biscuits in a ditch oven.
    On the day that I did this the weather was not so great and added to the challenge of cooking can biscuits in a dutch oven on charcoal.
    Come along and see how I do with cooking can biscuits in a dutch oven with charcoal.

    Never had a problem cooking whop biscuits while camping. It's the scratch made biscuits that were always a problem at the camp fire for me. I get lazy and cook up the whop biscuits (whop em on a counter top) when I cook just for myself or the grandbabies, but Shay don't eat them, so for her I gotta make scratch made butter biscuits. She ain't spoilt.. I promise ya!

      It is all about heat management in the camp oven. I mostly did this exercise to develop a better fell for things. Thanks for watching!

    You need not preheat it just put them in & go. You are cooking in an oven. Just think
    We cook on pans within our ovens not the oven's surface.
    And I'm poking you a little by telling you the cowboys were all laughing when you said you could flip the whole thing. 🤠
    Cooking on the lid alone upside down might be cool though.

      according to all of the instructions available, it is best to per-heat the oven.

    I wonder if you could use a cast iron skillet with a cast iron lid

    • @thervhomesteadTexas
      @thervhomesteadTexas  Před 8 měsíci

      You can but you have to turn them half way through so both sides get done. If you plan on having coals on the top side you will want to cook it on the cool side since the heat will be so close.

      @@thervhomesteadTexas I have two matching skillets, no lid .I turned one upside down to use as a lid, handles in opposite sides so it would sit flush..I turned an electric burner upside down on top and put it on the stove, low heat.Un fortunately because the electric burner was upside down I got confused on which way to adjust the heat . After all that, it got it too hot on the bottom burner and could only eat the top half of the biscuits, but it was good.

      Ok, I tried it again, two matching skillets clamshell style. This time no heat at all on the bottom. Biscuits were perfect on top,but on the bottom, done and not brown . Tasted great thou
