      This guy is dumb he doesn’t realize they come with open diffs change to an LSD differential and it will slide like nothing.. Plus add some coilovers to stiffen up suspension and it will slide like nothin

    Same chassis as the supra, sc300 have same engine as supra. Why does nobody praise these yet the supra is the ultimate jdm?

  • @jaylockwood8417
    @jaylockwood8417 Před 3 lety +5

    The thing about these cars is they’re for REAL car enthusiasts that actually mod and do stuff with their car. You can’t just get a stock luxury gt coupe from the 90’s and expect it to be a drift machine... It wasn’t made for that, but if you know cars and know what your doing (unlike this guy...) you can make these drift monsters. Really all you have to do is weld the differential shut.. costs like 80$.

      beauty about soarers, they can do almost anything you want with them as far as 'cars' are concerned. Drag, cruise, drift, track, luxury, family car..

    I drive a bone stock Lexus sc400 and I agree with him the way the stock suspension and alignment angles are set the car naturally does not go sideways well. Once you throw some coilovers on and change up the alignment a bit these cars slide like a dream

  • @alaajamal3614
    @alaajamal3614 Před 7 lety +8

    i own a 1j soarer with manual transmission, i had the same opinion about drifting it , and i found out that you really need to weld the diff or buy an LSD one but welding is much cheaper , and trust me you will drift like you never did before

    • @latuba2478

    • @KimTheGrim
      @KimTheGrim Před 5 lety +1

      The only option is a aftermarket locking unit, its only a grand. If you cant afford that, don't drift. Especially a stock manual one, ruining a good valuable car by cheaping out on it.

    This was my old car, i had sold this last year. Its a lovely car especially with the black leather. Have you still got this? You pretty much hit the nail on the head with the review as it was quick more of a smooth power delivery, but u couldn't throw it round the corners. Defiantly a GT cruiser car than B road blaster.

    Also swap out the open diff for the torsen lsd from a supra & get some coil overs...
    Doing this will dramatically change the handling.

    FYI the buttons near the shifter, the one of the side of the stick is overdrive, when your sat at say 60/70 and want to overtake, overdrive will drop the gearbox into 3rd instantly. The sport button just raises the limiter slightly

    • @johnvkay
      @johnvkay Před 8 lety

      Oh and in terms of skidding it, the stock open diff is holding it back. A stock lsd or even an aftermarket one will transform it.You do need to throw these cars around to get them to skid, especially as an auto. I skidded my auto soarer around Lydden Hill a bunch of times this year, hard work but I was linking the whole track (apart from down into devil's elbow obviously) and even initiating at 83mph into the back corner :) Auto is no good for tandem but perfectly skiddable with a half decent handbrake

    Very accurate review Jamie, perhaps too biased towards why it's not a good fit and less on what an amazing machine this is for a 91 :)
    If you found the UZZ31 hard to put sideways, try it in a UZZ32 with Active Suspension and 4WS, it's damn near impossible in the dry. That thing handles so neutrally and corners so fast it's uncanny.

      Fella I spoke to said no, not the factory chip. There are after market piggy back and full replacement ECUs and some wizards can apparently carefully stir 160rw/kW out of them that way but being one of the sturdiest motors on earth they're dying for boost. A supercheap roots supercharger, a reasonably priced positive displacement supercharger or a pricey turbo or two.

    I have a low mileage '94 GT-L as well and I agree with pretty much everything you've said but I'm a weird old man that absolutely loves all of it(mine has EMV as well) Although I've been assured that the clusters can easily last 200,000kilometers, I've learned the the window regulators are a guaranteed fail every 100,000 so stock up. You don't want a fail and have no spare in sunny England. If you can live without the heated/memory functions then put in a $100 1992-2002 supra seat(bolts straight in. 5 min job) it is waaay lower and more of a bucket and you will sit right down into the car and have better lateral support and the whole nature of the car changes. Also an old second hand M90 supercharger can be had fully installed for $4000AUD(£2000-ish) you can buy the M90 and kit from over here if you want and 6-8lb you get bulk slidey power with the hit coming on demand and the 1uz will take the boost in it's stride. With bigger pulleys you can go 500hp mental if you really want to. I haven't boosted yet, maybe next year but I'll be happy with 200rw/kW. I sat in one with a supra seat and loved it so mine is coming in a fortnight. I'll post when I get it. And if I ever boost I'll post that of course!

    • @JamieFYD
      @JamieFYD  Před 8 lety

      +Dave L good idea bout the supra seat id never of thought about that! actually have a friend with a supra and he has some spare seats that i could try in there. supercharging would be awesome but I'm in 2 minds with it, keep and charge it or sell and get something boosted already!

    • @MrMightyZ
      @MrMightyZ Před 8 lety

      My las t car was powered by a 6 litre GM V8 and I was going to boost that so I took a ride in a boosted one, the smooth V8 power and becomes a massive advantage in my eyes and one thing I thought about was that although 90's Japanese 6 cyl engines are fantastic(the 1jz is one of my favorite all time engines) the 1UZ is being all alloy is significantly lighter than the iron block 1JZ , can't remember the exact figure but the V8 is MUCH lighter and there is no engine on earth that's more sturdy and reliable. Even with light boost they are a good deal more powerful than any of the factory turbo 6s and dyno queens make a lot more power than the 6s for much less dough. Plus I like having power everywhere so superchargers and V8s are just the thing for me. But if you sell this car you'll make another cool video so that's good too.

    • @JamieFYD
      @JamieFYD  Před 8 lety

    • @MrMightyZ
      @MrMightyZ Před 8 lety +3

      Talk to dudes that have boosted 1UZs and as soon as you ask them what it's like they grin really big grins. One dude in a forum says he regrets selling a 1UZ that he claims he forced 320 rw/kw out of for 5 years and it was still howling when he sold it! Plus since the 1UZ is one of the toughest engines ever made by man(only engine in a passenger vehicle to receive FAA approval in the US), if you have a low kilometer example you're really almost obliged to boost it. It's like the guy born with 3 kidneys, if he doesn't love getting into the booze every once in a while it's a terrible waste.

    • @JamieFYD
      @JamieFYD  Před 8 lety +1

I have a similar car that had been parked for 4 years and drove for a few miles and the engine cut-off. I have tried to start it and have even taken it to a garage but it wont start. Hey Jamie,
    I own a 1992 Toyota Soarer with a 1JZ twin turbo engine and automatic gearbox,
    Im kinda on the same wavelength as you, however compared to the 4L V8 i do feel the 1JZ is more aggressive maby because it uses more boost to get to the same amount of power.
    but we think pretty much the same thing, i expected it to be more drift spec then what it actually is.
    And to be honest, i think its a beautyfull car you dont see everyday (except for us ofcourse :P) but i dont know how to feel about it... its right in the middle of being awsome and being maby a bit boring, it is not but you know what i mean.

I'm glad you have the same sort of feeling from a 1JZ one as i have always thought they would be a totally different car, off cause with a manual box i think these would be alot more usable as a drifter but i am yet to jump in one, fingers crossed i do get the chance tho!
