    Tony was such an innovator. He is much too under appreciated.

    Tony created a new language of drumming on this track. You hear the Dead, and many jam bands in this. And you can hear the seeds of the 80s new wave, more specifically the songs with live drummers. The freedom expressed here is profound and drills to the heart of the mind of a lot of musicians...I hear the seeds of so many music genres here...as well as the ballsy drumming that influenced thousands. @5:50 is especially brave and with big shoulders. Every once in a while I listen to this album and pick up another obtuse and/or acute angle Tony was providing...mind blowing as the first time I heard it 30 years ago.

      i was just looking into that breakbeat stuff n realised he kinda doin it at certain bits, even in spectrum road - not that rock bands n jazz drummers werent doing it around this time other then tony but he definitely started the wave and is one of the pioneers

    I meant to say John McLaughlin. He can play cleanly, but he reguses to for the sake of music. Honestly, I like when a virtuoso musician gets dirty once in a while. It feels to fake if it is too clean.

      literally allem right here. like this whole album is just a perfect example of not giving two hoots about anyone around you snd just doing whatever the hell you wannu, since you've already proven yourself as one of the greats. so much JF after this maybe all that technically proficient and demonstrating all sortsa mastery but to be as free as this is something else to note.
      mb for ranting out let yall enjoy this

    I don't think you understand the history of jazz fusion. Much of the early fusion had roots in free jazz, meaning there is much improvisation involved. Because of this, there is no need to since improvisation allows the musician to play what is in his or her own head. Tony Williams can play cleanly, he just refuses to for the sake of it. Fusion had a completely different meaning back then compared to today, where one "has" to play cleanly. Still not convinced, listen to Derek Bailey.

    Lol! true,I dont have any instrument skills.but I have a good ear.and thats all you need.listen closely to this tune.He sounds terrible.some of his electronic stuff sounds nice.I dig alot of his Mahavishnu stuff.but to put him onto a pedestal and revere him?no. he aint that good. Dimeola is the real deal. and there are many others.

      Damn I couldn’t disagree more with you man. Even Jeff Beck knows he has supreme technique and skill, and in fact named him as the most skilled at one time

  • @robotennis61
    @robotennis61 Před 13 lety

    @Easleytee Stellar? His acoustic plaing is terrible.fingers tripping all over the strings,making no sense. take away the mans electronics and all you have left is someone who can play fast.

  • @robotennis61
    @robotennis61 Před 12 lety

    @stringzzzz1 see,there you go again."guitar master" thats bull shit. remove the FX,and whats left? not alot.certainly not "master shit" he can play.I admit.but master? no. its just alot of fast fingering between mediocre compositions.Dimeola,Delucia(not a fare comparison) play rings around him. hes not a master. hes a good guitar player with fast twitch fingers.applaud applaud

  • @robotennis61

    oK. There is no such thing as "Dirty" music.Thats a dumb statement.I've heard some of the best guitar players and any other instrument player make mistakes.It happens. But you recover and start polishing the notes again.Nobody wants to hear dirty AnYthinG! Music is about a clean sound moving from the artists mind through the instrument and into My ear.If I want to hear someone defacating on a microphone I'll subscribe to RAP
