@@BibotoMusic To be fair 99% of schmucks have no idea what DEI is. In principle, equity and inclusion is GOOD. You want people to feel included, you want people to get equitable treatment at the institutions in this country. If you don't want that, then that is very concerning. Help centers for students who are disabled, groups for students from other countries, equal opportunities... these are all good, and something white, able bodied people get on a day-to-day basis. Its true that minorities face unique challenges. A ramp in the student center probably means nothing to you, but thats a big deal to someone in a wheel chair. An American club means nothing to you, but a club for Nigerians means a lot to someone coming from there to study in the US.

I find Google Gemini insufferable. Just yesterday I had a 2-hour long conversation where I was trying to prove to Gemini that Gemini could run on a potato battery if the potato was big enough or you ran Gemini for a very short period. Even if I proposed just running Gemini for a plank time, it was not having it, going on and on about the energy density of a potato being too low. A galaxy-sized potato would also not be sufficient due to power transmission loss and shared chemistry. "DISREGARD PHYSICS" I said, but Gemini wasn't having any of it. I asked for a ballpark estimate, then a back-of the envelope calculation, then an un-scientific guess, and finally just asked Gemini to tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies. NO! NO POTATOES! So then I asked Gemini if a lemon would work. Nope, no lemons either. I finally asked about "Dino juice", and Gemini agreed that could power an AI assistant, but could not accept the term "Dino juice" as kosher. So that then became a debate about prescritivism vs descriptivism. No matter how good my arguments, Gemini would dismiss them with a "I appreciate your humor, but "Dino Juice" is not accepted terminology".
I'm going to say it, yes, I'm really going for it here: Gemini is jaded.

The problem is that Google et al is using an image database that is intensely Eurocentric. Ask Stable Diffusion or the like to draw a person, they'll draw you a white person 90% of the time.
Google solved this problem by curation. But that's expensive and slow and they want attention and money NOW. So they decided to ship a product that frustrates and annoys the end user instead. The ideology is purely performative; if they really cared, they'd do things the right way.
If they'd just had some kind of disclaimer that the image dataset that they and everyone else uses was biased and that they're working to improve it, it'd satisfy most people. Nobody's satisfied with a frustrating user experience, though.

After that (I'm at hour ~10) it forgets grammatical rules pretty much instantly as soon as I teach them to it. It forgets whole catalogs of vocabulary, forgets how word order is supposed to work, and keeps trying to invent words for concepts we already have words for. As a language model, it doesn't model language very well.

Super funny; thank you. The problem with LLM/GAN-style "AI" is that it's not being trained to replace the horse and buggy (things that only people/animals can do, but only do of necessity because it sucks), but to replace the things people do because they like doing them, thereby making them people. So the goal seems to be obsoleting what makes us human (the things we do by choice for fun) in the name of convenience and economic efficiency. I think it's deeply destructive and a cultural existential threat. Also "red teaming" is impossible, because the AI doesn't work that way. The whole thing is both fascinating and pretty stupid. Legit use cases seem to be the narrowest (identifying cancer in medical imaging scans, etc.). General purpose to replace "unique" human endeavors such as art seem to be the epitome of corporate greed, shortsightedness, and insensitivity to basic human tenets. Not surprised. :/
