- "The Big Bang Theory" star Kunal Nayyar films on the same Warner Brothers studio lot as Ellen, and he admitted he'll wave to anyone... even if he has no idea who they are.
I really have felt that the TBBT writers have not really allowed him to explore his full potential as an actor in his role as Raj. A talented individual and that has been a missed opportunity.

Forget Americans, in our own neighboring pakistan - they don't know what Diwali is. 70 year old Nawaz sharif doesn't know difference between holi and Diwali - on Diwali day, he said to hindus in Pakistan 'invite me for the color throwing'. Now that's sad! They have completely eliminated all minorities and marginalized them to the extent that Nawaz doesn't know difference between holi and Diwali. Two of the BIGGEST hindu festivals.
It's a great thing if Ellen asks Kunal to explain what the festivaal is, because as you know, in America there are some people who vote for Trump, and who don't know what other people in countries are like. So it's awesome that she wants Kunal to describe Diwali to the audience. If they become more aware, better for us, don't ya think?
Doddith Tell me one festival of China the most populous of them all. India is really diverse and you can't expect people outside to know it's festivals and culture. I think it's the same with almost every non-English speaking country. I don't expect them to know the festivities in Netherlands or Japan either

I love Raj but I didn't like when he said people just drink alcohol and eat food on Diwali. That's not true. I know people are forgetting the traditions but still there are some families who actually celebrate Diwali in a proper way.
Totally agreed! But its just a fun interview, we can't expect him to sit and explain the traditions associated with our festival to a western host & audience who are used to "drinking & eating" at all their festivals.

I would like to elaborate about Diwali. Kunal might be joking in a health way. But Diwali is not just about eating and drinking. Its about celebrating the victory of good over evil, Return of Lord Rama after killing Ravan, getting faith back, wishing for good health(God Ganesh), prosperity, wealth(Goddess Lakshmi), education (by doing Puja of Goddess Saraswati) , good luck(God Ganesh). It's a festival of lights, eating sweets, wearing new clothes, making Rangoli(art of colors) at home, reunion of family members, praying for them, lighting diyas(oil lamps), cleaning your entire house, donating old new clothes, sweets to poors and so so much more.
People celebrate in their own way though. It's a day to be happy.

I am Maharashtrian by culture nd for us diwali means a festival of lights,sweets,rangoli ( a design or painting made of combination of colours in front of our home ),a special kind of food called farar which contains more than 5 items...nd so on. it is a festival of various occasions like laxmi pujan( praising to the goddess of wealth nd knowledge), dhanteras ( similar to the laxmi pujan),badi diwali,chhoti diwali,bhai duj( brother sister devotes to each other) and in the end the new year.
( Look like i went in so detail 😅)but yeah Kunal Nayyar belongs to punjab so for them alcohol nd food is kind of diwali celebration for them😂.

we make different varities of traditional indian sweets at home in diwali. Generally neighbours help one another in making sweets as they make sweets in one anothers house turn by turn
the most amazing part about diwali is we share sweets with everyone, we give sweets to our muslim neighbours and we get the same love during eid

Literally people in India we will pray and do religious stuff on the little diwali and on the actual diwali everyone gets drunk eats chicken blasts some fireworks pollute the air, 100% hurt someone when lighting the firework and mess up someones eye ( there is no safety or permit required for fireworks in india) and go home....
