The Old Grey Whistle Test (sometimes abbreviated to Whistle Test or OGWT) is a British television music show. The show was devised by BBC producer Rowan Ayers, commissioned by David Attenborough and aired on BBC2 from 1971 to 1988. It took over the BBC2 late-night slot from Disco 2, which ran between September 1970 and July 1971, while continuing to feature non-chart music. The original producer, involved in an executive capacity throughout the show's entire history, was Michael Appleton.
According to presenter Bob Harris, the programme derived its name from a Tin Pan Alley phrase from years before. When they got the first pressing of a record they would play it to people they called the old greys - doormen in grey suits. Any song the doormen could remember and whistle, having heard it just once or twice, had passed the old grey whistle test. - Wikki

Not so called Goth band mate Bauhaus & UK Decay were originators of Goth.
I agree. They helped create Goth, but created so many colors and sounds that aren't just dark. I think they are underappreciated as a top tier, og Post-punk band, all because of "Bela".
Just like Siouxsie and The Cure, they are a rainbow of colors, just so good at the dark side, they are painted in black by those that don't dig deeper

I loved the live version of this song on "Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape". But this version is pretty intense. It's a shame it wasn't on Gotham but I know they didn't have time to do everything. Whatever the case I still absolutely love this band and especially this song.♀️🖤🤘

They were so eager to be more Bowie than Bowie himself. But Murphy's voice and very good tunes saved them. Still, it's quite over yhe top and enjoyable. Golden era for music

@@jumpstar9000 nope. the "starkicker" backdrop is visible at 3'44; definitely ogwt. I just don't remember either the appearance or the whistle test using dry ice. but they were on "riverside" around the same time- I remember danny ash chucking his guitar on the deck & storming off. staged, I think.
