Any half decent fighter today can easily project where he is going to eventually end up - he swings his head and body around awfully - he would lose to any of the top 5 in the same (or worse) fashion.

When Smith told his corner "My teeth are falling out" he said it like he wanted them to stop the fight right then but he just couldn't bring himself to say those words. Not surprising knowing how much heart this guy has. You know something went really bad if everyone is talking about how bad the corner was instead of how good Glover looked.
He didn't get the nickname "Lionheart" for no reason. Huge respect for Glover and Anthony.
I'm mad nobody thought to tell Anthony "hey if you keep takin damage, im gonna stop this fight" or ask him if he can continue. Terrible corner and terrible job by the ref in this one. The corner is getting all the blame but the ref fucked up too. That was a one sided beat down with Smith in survival mode for 2 and a half rounds while glover was beating the shit out of him, looked fresh and still had power.
Yeah he was pretty much saying he wanted out without saying he wanted out. Just not in some guys to quit no matter how bad they getting beat.
Its the honor of certain fighters, every single human being wants to get out of there especially if you dont see yourself pulling it off but they cant just say it.
Dont know why he didint give his neck tho, conor is a prime example, he fights well but if he knows he cant pull it off he gives his neck if the opportunity is given.

Will Hanley Reed it was a different kind of 10-8 though, the guy he was facing just didn’t win a second, it was mostly grappling domination and the guy wasn’t getting beat senseless there just wasn’t anything he could do. Smith was gassed and getting damaged BADLY, it’s the same on the scorecards but realistically one is FAR more damaging in the long term and to your health

i am by no means an expert but also have my own opinion on various issues but every video i watch from you i go away where i am a little more knowledgeable on the matter so i thank you for that uncle chael. while watching the match i just wanted it to be over as i am a fan of anthony being the good guy that he is however i never considered his corner and their duty to protect him but after watching the video i see your point and agree with you and so once again you have increased my knowledge of the sport. so again thank you

You could just tell smith was done after the third round. His hands were low and his punches were lacking any power. I thought Smith fought like a champion and I'm not mad at herzog for not stopping the fight. Like chael I'm utterly disappointed in the corner for not protecting their fighter. The second he said my teeth were falling out they should have stopped it

Everyone deserves blame including doctor who could have stopped the fight based on what he saw from outside the ring, this is according to Big John a few days ago, I think dealing with Tony's beatdown. I give Herzog blame as well but only because part of his blame goes to Cruz for his bitchy drunk insult which affected every single ref from that fight on. Strangely after he whined, made a mockery of referees, state commissions, other refs & officials there who would have noticed a drunk ref, the media were too cowardly to call out their colleague and ask what this kind of mental warfare/bitchy preteen girl talk has as an effect on future fights. No one wants to be"that" guy especially after another ref got blasted with zero repercussions. In a real organized sport, that's never toleratef because you put the integrity of organization, state Commission and others in question.
If Herzog was hesitant to step in even at teensy bit because of the Cruz stoppage (knee to face, head bounce on canvas, 8-10 undefended shots) nonsense them im willing to shift some blame from him to Cruz. But he still gets the Mario "If he dies, he dies." award. Big John talks about how you can as a ref you can do some things to lead others into the right decisions, like call doctor tocome in and say "Take a look at that ear" and others ways you can save the fighter from himself/others. Herzog was 'just doing his job', nothing more. When the safety of the fighter is your main preoccupation, that was almost too little.
