In this week’s episode we tackle UK tree identification (again!), looking specifically at Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) and Field Maple (Acer campestre).
A big thank you to whoever sent me a picture of the evil bear many months ago! Possibly Kathy…

Thank you. I always get confused between these two trees on my walks. Knowing what to look out for in more detail helps. Thumbs up from me!
That was very useful and informative. Thank you.
Often wondered the differences between the two. Thanks for adding to me knowledge!

I enjoyed your episode. Thanks.
Living in America, this was a bit confusing. After a quick search, the video seems to discuss (using the American nomenclature) the Sycamore Maple which is separate from the American Sycamore.
Thanks for the feedback. We've altered the video description to include the scientific names.
Thank you for your very helpful video. I keep horses and it is important to be able to tell the difference between sycamore and field maple, because sycamores are poisonous to horses (producing aflatoxin-A if such things interest you) whereas field maples are not. Looks like the trees around my field are a mixture of both, so I will be having to get my leaf-vacuum out when autumn comes and those pretty helicopter seed pods fall where my ponies can reach them!
Thank you! in this area we dont much maple trees but sycamore. I always mistaken sycamore leaf with maple.
Great video thank you for this
I’ve been lucky enough to elude those brown leaf spots on my sycamore this year.
You are brilliant 🙏❤️🙏 keep up the good work trees are good for the soul and nature we must stop killing. Again this year 2022. A evil person poured oil on daddy swan because he kept attacking none flying farm geese on Tudor Grange lake Solihull, RSPCA called out took Cob, Pen, 6, babies only three days old to clean up oil on dad & babies, all the babies DIED 😭very stressful I have fed the swans every day since 2014 this happened last year 2021 the same all babies killed Solihull Council don’t care, we got the RSPCA to bring our Mom and Dad swans🦢back, RSPCA told the council to clean this filthy lake up, hurrah it looks wonderful 🙏😇 ❤️ I have complained for forty years for this Council to Clean up our park lake, but ignored, parks are good for our soul especially with lakes they attract wild life, I see more on park lakes than in the countryside and I don’t have to dive miles to see them. The none native geese destroy our lakes and spread bird flue !?!?😱help get people to care 🙏😇🙏🦢🐝🐞🪴
