Let's hope all this new power means that Mass Coastal is getting lots and lots of new freight business!

I caught this from afar at the traffic jam on Washington St.
Never dawned on me that it was a new addition to the fleet!

Mass Coastal's previous Geep acquisions have been oddballs like the GP28, a GP50, and a GP59. I guess MC couldn't find another oddball Geep to buy so this time they had to settle for a "normal" Geep like the GP38-2 in this video! 😀

I don't think so. 1701 is in Millis, and 1705/1706 are in Hyannis Yard last time I checked.

It's a locomotive, why can't they just send someone to drive it from it's source?

Need a conductor and engineer to crew the move, they need to be qualified on all of the trackage from the origin to destination, plus their wage for the hours taken to move the units, the taxi/travel cost to get them to the originating station. It's more cost effective to just move it under the local railroad while powered down (dead in tow) for the trackage it has to move across. Not to mention often when the locomotives are purchased/leased they need to be inspected before they are able to be officially placed in service and run on the destination line.

What the heck are you talking about? It's new to that particular railroad. Anybody with common sense knows that. Don't complain about things for which complaint is not justifiable.

Another one!?!? Why do they need so many?

Revenue rail lines can never have too many power units. Cars cannot move themselves…no moving, no revenue.
