  • Now that I'm officially out of the break-in period, I decided to do a proper set of speed tests (downhill, uphill, level). This is the best my little Louise could do. My Trail 125 Is stock, there are no tricks here, and I made sure to run the bike completely wide-open during the tests. I removed excess weight from the bike, folded down my milk crate, and tucked low during tests for the best aerodynamics. There was no notable wind during these tests and the rain was very light (so I think was negligible).
    The hill used for testing features a ~5% gradient.
    I weigh ~155-160 lbs, and am 5'9"

    Thanks for actually doing what the title said. To many videos on CZcams where they don't even give the info advertised! Good video. Thanks agaon.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  Před rokem +2

      Absolutely. I actually hit 62 a week later on a longer downhill in town. It was absolutely pegged though...and probably not good for the little engine. One thing I didn't mention in this video, is with a chain ring swap-out, one could definitely increase their top speed. For me though, I'm content with the gearing as-is. I play around enough on chunky single-track, that I like have the grunty low-gearing. If I knew I were going to be going on a longer trip, I'd consider swapping it out to get more top end speed. One caution I've seen online though, is that swapping out the front chain ring can trigger a check-engine light as it interferes somehow with the the ABS sensor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Super tests, only info missing is how far off the speedo is compared to GPS, if you had made a simple comparison on the speedo at 50 mph and showed what actual GPS speed that was we can get a completely reliable top speed of this bike under all conditions.. but that was the only thing missing, other than that, this was perfect! Thanks.

    about the same as my stock 2019 125 Monkey. It is what it is, and I totally love it for that. Looking for a Trail, but dang, hard to find in central TX.

    How does this video get 1.5K views and only 50 thumbs up? Granted I did watch it twice and sometimes people pause things and that may count as a separate viewing. Cub trail 125 is very impressive. Thank you again.

      I did get the bike up to 62 at one point, but on a steep downhill with the wind at my back. I think saying a functioned top speed of about 50 is probably more realistic for everyday riding. I did recently sell my Trail 125 for a CRF300LS....and do miss it sometimes. But...in the end, I am happy I got the CRF.

    They need to make a bike like this with just a bit more power. They should make the xr150l with an auto option or even a low seat 250 with an auto. My wife wouldn't want a clutch, but would probably ride something like this. Something that could do 55-65mph up hills to keep up on the roads would be good. 45mph up hills is going to result in constantly having a car on your tail. I know several women that would love a mildly capable auto dual sport. There are some older people out there who would like this too. Seems like a hole in the market. There are tiny little auto bikes and great big auto bikes but nothing I know of in the 150-400cc range.

    • @HighCalip
      @HighCalip Před 6 měsíci

      tw200 or dr200se then just throw more teeth on the counter sprocket if you want higher top end speed. girls gotta know how to clutch though. anything higher than 150cc on this trail would take away from the cuteness factor of the platform in my opinion

    • @TheAnnoyingBoss
      @TheAnnoyingBoss Před 8 měsíci

      Man at least in this nightmare theres people in it who can see all the shit floating in the punch boal and when everyone says "drink the punch" jonestown style im not about it. 4k is a lot to pay to go 53 shes fully pinned bro. For my small town thats actually, its only pinnes for a little but to get to where you need to go so its not bad but if i wanted to go to the closest walmart its 12 miles 50mph minimum 60 max and i mean what if you want to do 63 in a 55 to maoe a pass on a guy going 58 you feel me? That is impossible with this bike. So its very limiting. Butnut also is a trail bike so it will perform some on minor trails and carry your sleeping bag tent water etc. So i mean its tough. I like whwre i live a lot so areas i want to epxlore i might be going 75mph or walking the bike with my feet arounda rock on trail so its difficult to find something good for all that.

    Just to be clear. Does this cluster/dash show the gear you are in?

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  Před rokem

      No....there is no gear indicator on the Trail 125 unless you upgrade your instrument cluster to an aftermarket one. It is one of the few gripes I have about the bike as I like having a gear indicator. With only 4 gears though, you get pretty used to it, and almost always just "know" what gear you're in based on the engine rev noise.

    does your motorcycle sway left and right on high speed? is it because i have the stock off-road tires?

  • @MadsWorld34
    @MadsWorld34 Před měsícem

    i have been playing with my gears. so far for me 185 pounds 5'9 the stock 39 rear and a 15 front will get me pretty much 60 mph steady on flat ground. the only mod i did so far is i pulled the spark arrestor out cut the screen off and put it back in. buy i have went from a 13x 36 to a 15x41. but with the 15x36 and a 71 pound 14 year old boy on my trail hit 71 mph. yes it took a long time to get there but he did. but the same gears and my fat butt i lost speed and power.

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  Před 9 měsíci

      Perhaps. I've never been a big fan of altering engines with after-market kits. In the end, I ultimately sold my Trail 125 for a slightly bigger CRF300L (see my more-recent content). I still use it as a commuter, but it has enough power to keep me safe on faster highways (while still being relatively small and light).

    • @On2Feet
      @On2Feet  Před 11 měsíci +1

      ha ha...yeah more or less. In all honesty, the real practical "top speed" of the Trail 125 is 45-50 (unless on a big hill). Ultimately, this became a bit of a hindrance to me and I did sell my 125 (and bought a CRF300LS). I do miss it terribly, but the 300LS is the right bike for me now (great for commuting, but still enough power to ride comfortably on highways).
