It depends on your goal. If you want reliable knowledge backed up by experts and evidence, go for the scholars. If you want to make a TikTok short less historically reliable than a Mickey Mouse comic book but somehow with more views than the actual Earth population, go for the tinfoil hat.
While scholars can sometimes get the facts wrong, I would still trust scholars that provide the most consistent view of the evidence that accounts for all of the evidence we currently have, without assuming any sort of modern biases that can skew how the evidence is examined. To put it simply, I would trust the scholars whose works are the most evidentially and historically consistent.

He definitely takes some historical liberties but I personally like the books and movies. The only problem is when people walk away from them thinking they watched something that isn't a historical fiction. But that's the fault of the audience, not the author.

From what I've read, Athanasius the Great, who attended the Council of Nicaea, had a pretty well formulated set of scriptures (which is pretty close to the scriptural Canon that we ended up with), but this was not part of the council, and he never formally had it canonized. I think this is where the confusion lies.

While scholars can sometimes get the facts wrong, I would still trust scholars that provide the most consistent view of the evidence that accounts for all of the evidence we currently have, without assuming any sort of modern biases that can skew how the evidence is examined.
To put it simply, I would trust the scholars whose works are the most evidentially and historically consistent.

There were many things Jesus told his followers, but only a small portion were written down, and there is not 1 scrap of evidence that Jesus wrote any of it. The "gospel of Jesus" doesn't exist. The gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John however do, and the whole of the New Testament were compiled and recognized over the course of about 100 years, then reaffirmed in the mid-late 1400s. Councils of Hippo, Carthage, Rome, and later Florentine. If you wish to call yourself a Christian you are required to accept the inspired word as it is written. Your picture of the Bible is a Douay-Confraternity, St. Joseph edition. My mom and dad had one exactly like that. Before there was Dan Brown and the Da Vinci Code, there was Shirley Maclaine and the New Age movement that insisted that reincarnation was one of the things that Jesus taught and was suppressed by the first Council of Nicea.

From what I've read, Athanasius the Great, who attended the Council of Nicaea, had a pretty well formulated set of scriptures (which is pretty close to the scriptural Canon that we ended up with), but this was not part of the council, and he never formally had it canonized. I think this is where the confusion lies.
The nonsense from these people is incessant, lol. The first formal cannon didn’t materialize until the Council of Rome 382….

The Council of Nicea was the landmark gathering first of seven Ecumenical Councils that occured within the Orthodox Church (when the Latin/Papal or Catholic Church was still a part of the Orthodox Church & before they broke off in 1054). Saint Constantine organized the gathering and the famous Nicean Creed was also formed.
