    THIS is what plastic surgery is for, not fish lips or fake small noses. It's to help people who have suffered a disease or illness or birth defect. It helps them get rid of physical pain, fixes scars or destruction, helps them blend in, and just allows them to be normal.

      I mean yeah totally, what they do for these people is amazing. But I see no issues with doing it for both reasons. If people want to fix something on them that they don’t like if that’s what makes them feel good and they’ve got the means to afford it then they should go for it. I just don’t understand why what other people do to their own selves bothers people so much, it never really made much sense to me. What they do doesn’t affect my life so why bother caring? It’s just a total waste of energy. People constantly praise other people who naturally have what others are getting done and that actually seems worse to me. No one can help what they’re born with, so praising someone for hitting the genes lottery while condemning someone else for getting work done to enhance themselves makes no sense. Neither can help what they’re born with, but one gets praised for “staying natural.” It’s easy to stay natural when you’ve already got desired features. Just live and let live man, it’s all trivial✌🏼

    This is the kind of work, that makes me feel pride in these two physicians!! I worked as an ER, ICU, CCU Nurse for 30 yrs, and saw first hand, the devastation that facial and bodily scarring and malfunction,can cause both physically and psychologically. Marriages breaking apart due to low self esteem issues in one partner and then, harboring anger inside, lashing out at themselves and others!! People unable to carry on a normal life,afraid to be judged constantly ,laughed at,cruel remarks being made.These Plastic Surgeons have literally performed miracles!! Thank you for this wonderful life changing work, Dr. Nassif and Dr. Dubrow!! May you be blessed greatly!! ❤

      I completely agree with you from a patient’s standpoint. I was born with a very rare craniofacial syndrome that doctors have to ask me what it is. I’m always so excited when I meet a doctor who understands the condition. I dealt with the bullies all throughout childhood. To this day my self esteem is very low and any time someone is looking at me, I feel like they’re judging me or mocking me.

      @@JL-uv1ms gosh that’s horrible. What’s worse is that your teachers didn’t even do anything or care. I’m so sorry. I was in school through the 90s and graduated in 2003, and then there was more discipline if there was bullying. Especially after what happened in Columbine. It took something that horrible to wake people up it seemed. But for me it was the school bus that was the worst. I still remember the bullies by name to this day. However, I didn’t have it where they were physical or made me humiliate myself like you endured. That just broke my heart you had to go through that. No matter what decade we grew up in, bullying should never have been allowed or tolerated. Not to have loving parents, especially a mother’s love, I can’t begin to imagine. My parents tended to be the opposite extreme, where if anyone messed with their “cubs”, they needed to run. My dad came to my bus stop once and he spoke his mind to the girl that was the bully then. I wanted to run. It did help though. One thing that I learned growing up was how to be more compassionate and I definitely went to the kids who were alone and unpopular. By the time I hit 4th grade or so and after my first reconstructive surgeries, I had fewer bullies. To this day there’s always been those few but there’s many more that love me and have my back. If I deal with the unkind people, it’s usually in public and I will never see them again. At least not in person because I definitely remember them and in my head I see them. One thing that I remember learning when I was in discipleship training school 15 years ago, was how we can have 100 people or more or less than that, say the most uplifting, positive, kind words to us and there was one person who said a comment that brought us down, most of us would focus on that one person and forget about the 100+ positive words that we heard. I know I struggled with that and when I heard someone share it, it hit me to the core. I definitely have learned through the years and now I have such a heart to reach out to people who are looked down upon. Before I was struck with medical challenges that put me on disability, I was working in urban ministries and reaching out to the homeless, addicts, prostitutes, etc… As a kid already, I gravitated towards them because I saw how the average person treated them.
      From what you have shared, I can tell you are a very compassionate person who devoted your life to helping others. I definitely admire that. I don’t think I would survive in the medical field. I get squeamish when I have to get a blood test. The needle alone gives me anxiety. The lab techs get a good laugh from me because I go into the lab looking the other way.🤪

      Yet, they still can't fix scars properly. Since 2007 I've been waiting and hoping that 'someday' they will be able to fix scars , more than just marginally 'improve' them. And nothing. This is why they make the really big bucks. In my opinion, there is wage and wealth disparity everywhere but within medical specialties, ESPECIALLY surgical, these guys have been through so much education, and CONTINUE to further their education. They also have to have a level of engineering and problem solving skills, on top of the fact that the procedures are long and grueling, they work crazy hours and are on call for post op patients, the stakes are so high as they literally hold people’s lives in their hands, and they completely change and heal lives on a daily basis. This is one of those fields where it doesn’t bug me even a little bit that these guys are multimillionaires with mansions and yachts etc. They actually earn them and the work they do touches lives everywhere, from not only their patients, but also everyone who has any kind of relationship with their patients as well. These procedures heal marriages, cure depression and social anxiety, give people back the ability to maintain their own livelihoods, and I guarantee they have even prevented suicides. Truly amazing work. Well done docs!

  • @Vindsvelle
    @Vindsvelle Před 5 měsíci +14

    The algorithm recommending this is mystifying because I never watch this type of content, but I gave it a chance and was blown away by the professionalism and empathy of these surgeons. Contrary to what a lot of people may think, plastic surgery isn't synonymous with cosmetic surgery, and a plastic surgeon must undergo _far_ more training than the average surgical MD in order to work the magic they do. Seems like one of the few ultra-high paid vocations whose earnings are actually commensurate with their skill and the betterment of others' lives.
    Even if one accuses plastic and / or cosmetic surgeons of "just being in it for the money", there's no denying the transformative effects on their patients' quality of life, and these two physicians' bedside manner seem very compassionate and genuine; the questions they ask of the patient's daughters in the first segment being an example of real engagement and care.
    Kudos, docs.

    That last guys nose defect, so awful that his mother was blamed for it because she used contraception. Like, any doctor should have known how unlikely that was that an IUD caused that issue, but misogyny in medicine, especially towards pregnant mothers, makes it super easy to just blame everything in “the woman did something”. There have been so many medications removed for use in pregnant women because a Dr blamed a congenital condition on something the mother took (2 very safe morning sickness pills particularly come to mind), even when court proceeding proved it wasn’t the meds many pharma companies just don’t wanna deal with the pregnant market because of that. All well and good... until you are a sick pregnant woman!

    Misleading title but still inspiring none the less. None of these cases appear to be from previously "botched" surgeries but rather deformities that occurred as a result of trauma accidents and diseases. After both of those situations, reconstruction is always a multi-step process of first healing from the initial trauma and or disease and then formulating a plan to rebuild the damaged and deformed structures afterwards in a series of follow up surgeries. Sadly but true in many cases, patients that live with these unresolved disfigurements do so because they don't have the medical insurance or resources to pay the enormous costs associated with reconstructive and restorative surgeries. Thank god there is this opportunity to have the restorative surgeries through this unconventional means (reality TV)

    Years ago I had surgery performed by a plastics and reconstructive surgeon for chronic headache/migraine. Dr. Jeffrey Janis in Dallas,TX. The surgeries included a facelift-like procedure, a sinus revision, and an occipital nerve decompression that together resulted in seven years without a headache.
    I developed scar tissue around the occipital nerve, so the pain eventually came back, but those seven years were great. I wish there was a good solution to the scar tissue.

      I think facial reconstruction and also a well done facelift are very important. Whether by disease or age there have been studies that support that if you look sad or angry your brain responds neurologically. I saw a study that showed that Botox had a positive impact on mood because it helped to rewire the brain because the person looked happier. Surgery can do the same thing.

      @shoes7899 Před 7 měsíci +3

      cosmetic surgery itself isn't wrong, but the way some people abuse it is. plastic surgery addiction is real and ruins lives. i think plastic surgery should only be for people to get their old face back after an injury or unless. it shouldn't be for glamour.

    • @Kaybye555
      @Kaybye555 Před 3 měsíci

      @@rachelwhite438i find that a bit hard to believe. Many times people with botox cannot articulate correctly, they don't show sadness or being angry or concern correctly because their face doesn't show it. So it's like wearing a happy face mask, yeha it might make you happy to look at the happy face, when it's important to show other emotions, then they end up looking so uncanny and it makes people confused

    Man I wish I could afford these doctors. I was born with a rare syndrome that required dozens of surgeries. I had great surgeons but eventually my insurance changed. I have never been able to breathe through my nose and I have ptosis on both eyes. I’ve been told that because I have had a lot of surgeries and a lot of hardware in my face, doing the surgery to correct my nose could likely blind me. Before my insurance changed my doctor then said it would not be hard to correct. Now it feels like I have a choice to either breathe or see.

      How can people find it acceptable that your health depends on what insurance you have? I’m in the UK and I am so thankful for the NHS! No, it’s not perfect, but my teenage daughter recently had a pre-cancerous mole removed, I am scheduled for 2 operations next month to improve my quality of life, and my sister recently spent 6 weeks in intensive care with a rare disease, all at no cost except for the hospital car park. And to us this is all normal. In fact we usually complain that we have to pay for the car park!
