  • Firefighters are battling a large fire in New Orleans' Hollygrove neighborhood on Wednesday morning.
    According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the flames damaged three unoccupied homes near Earhart Boulevard and Eagle Street, and nearby homes are at risk.
    Neighbors tell WWL-TV that they heard popping noises and the lights in their home flickered before the fire.While not yet confirmed, firefighters say they believe the cause of the fire may have been caused by an electrical issues.

    All these years later and these houses still haven't been torn down. Fire is cheap urban renewal :)

    they could just film the fire and be quiet, and just stay out of the firefighters way. that would be enough.

    I hate to be a armchair quarterback but the tactical approach on this fire looks pretty fragmented. You can tell NOF fire department budgets have been stripped down. I am surprised of the delay it took getting decent hose streams in place....even using the deck-guns or aerials on the fires??? You can tell the firefighters are whipped!

      Hey Allen. What does NOF mean? I haven't watched the entire video but they don't use deck guns or master streams when they do interior attacks because the water streams could easily kill any firefighter inside the home doing an interior attack or search. I'm not sure what you mean by NOF. I'd like to talk to you about this and perhaps we can learn from each other. I'm not a firefighter so please don't take everything I say as fact. But from what I've watched on videos and what I've heard from firefighters I've gained a pretty good knowledge. It would be great to talk to you. You obviously know a thing or two!!!! I'd love to learn from anything you have to say!

      @@virgilhilts3924 Agreed. I think Allen knows a thing or two about firefighting, but I'm no firefighter myself. I'll tell you what I do know... When you pull a line you don't just throw it on the ground and charge it. You have to get it "untangled" (for lack of better term) before you do anything else. It's little things like that which people don't understand that take time. People are screaming "put water on the fire" but it takes a little time. Just my two cents

      @@ericweiler6571 There was no interior attack, otherwise known as an offensive attack, because these are abandoned homes and endangering firefighters in an offensive attack is senseless as well as useless. This was defensive from the beginning.
      It seems like deck guns would have extinguished the fires within literally seconds.

    Different cities need to come up with a better idea, for abandon homes. Leaving them vacant is a fire hazard. I'm sure the homeless would be happy to have one of houses refurbished.

    • @enid0mom
      @enid0mom Před rokem +1

      Detroit has thousands of abandoned homes and it is not unusual for firefighters to respond to properties that had had previous fires. Sometimes only days before. Detroit in particular has hundreds of gigantic abandoned factories. With the loss in the tax base, the city simply does not have the money to take care of this by itself.
      It seems so obvious that demolishing these structures, and cleaning up the site is a no brainer. There must be legal factors involved that prevent this. Property rights are almost sacred in this country.

      Pretty much everywhere now these are kids in college in Journalism school and the stations use them for FREE. So they don't have to pay for reporters and the kids get credit and some experience. Where I live they are all pretty much college kids because it's a small market and not a lot of advertising revenue available.
