Koks on the Faroe Islands - The World's Most Remote Dining Destination

- The Faroe Islands have become a popular tourist destination for food and nature lovers alike. The islands are technically owned by Denmark, but the setting is like nowhere else in Scandinavia. The landscape is filled with breathtaking sights such as waterfalls, gorges, mountains, puffins, and lighthouses, and the sea is filled with some of the world’s most delicious fish. If you’re a destination diner, like us, the main reason you’re visiting the Faroe Islands is probably to eat at restaurant Koks. That’s right - tucked away in this unspoiled, natural paradise is a two Michelin-starred restaurant, with chef Poul Andrias Ziska at the helm. This restaurant is one-of-a-kind, and indeed worth a special journey to the Faroe Islands.

The sheer amount of labor in these dishes goes unseen and unsaid. Those 5 apprentice’s and chef are working 20 hr days to produce this. Much respect.
In God's Mercy I want to go this place one day...
Hope you get a chance!
@Descendant Of Rollo Hahaha!
@Descendant Of Rollo sorry, but just had to and don’t take it wrong: you spelled spelt wrong 😎
I would never go there. The most of the people on this island are killing thousands of dolphins on one day just for fun ( and "justify" it with their tradition ) It's so merciless, painful and sad. Nowadays studies show that dolphins / whales are more intelligent and feel more pain than we think.
you‘ll do!
I ate here back in 2016, it was the single most impressive culinary experience I have ever had. The food was incredible and the story and method behind it was just as fascinating! Incredible place!
Glad to hear you had an amazing experience here as well!
Definitely a bucket list once in a lifetime experience. Imagine how fresh the seafood are.
As fresh as it gets!
Although I might NEVER be able to visit this destination, this video was such a treat! The scenery is unparalleled, and that dining experience looked mesmerizing and unforgettable. Thanks for this video. I enjoyed it immensely.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the kind words, it means a lot to us.

Wow! I love the Faroe Islands since I was a young teenager on a 32-foot boat on the coast of Greenland fishing and hunting. I met fishermen from the Faroes there. They were as tough as us and nice. This was 50 years ago. I later named one of my sons after a skipper from Sandøy that I became close to. I always wanted to go but after this video, yes I definitely will!
You have to go! Let us know how you liked it. :)

I hope you got there.
I was impressed by your fearlessness with the fermented fish beer only to watch you find a way to tackle that seagull head. My hat is off to you, you two really do present these places and their hard work well.
Haha, you just have dig in! We'll try any local delicacy at least once... sometimes not twice ;)
Hope,someday,I could visit this island
Crossing fingers!
I don‘t know whats more impressive.. the beautiful landscape or the dishes 😋
Hard to choose, but luckily, you can enjoy both!
the annual whale slaughter is MOST impressive = the waters running red with blood

The whole island is like out of a movie!
Some things are so out of reach for the common man hence why I truly appreciate and enjoy these beautiful travel videos. A man can only dream.
Happy to bring you along virtually!
definetely one of the best video on youtube!
Glad you think so!
What an unbelievable setting for a fine dining restaurant. Incredible!
You just wish that you could spend more time here!
Thanks for coming to visit Faroe Islands, and for making such a beautiful video ❤️
Our pleasure!
My father has often said to me, "Utilize your resources." I can really appreciate how these guys utilize what is around them. Not making them just edible, but using the mind to create deliciousness. My words are inadequate to express how impressed I am.
That's the thing with chefs, they are artists, but some people can't get past the fact that thay are making art with food that is edible, so they start complaining that it doesn't look like the food they are used to seeing.
i'd suggest you go when these people have the annual whale slaughter. google it. yt it. disgusting
@@raymondo162 I guess that means you wouldn't be stopping by my house for supper then. Regular fare is venison, raccoon, groundhog, bluegill, catfish, and carp. I just picked wild lettuce, dandelion, chickweed, and henbit for a 16 oz salad, eaten with home canned buffalo fish. I spend $20 a week on groceries. I don't have livestock so I still buy my milk, butter, spices etc.
When my 4 children were young at home, I was on the county road killed deer pickup list. Clean it within the hour and you'll be ok.
We hit a squirrel on the road one day and it did that energy release similar to a head shot. Sure enough, only the head was damaged and the squirrel was good to eat.
My brother and a friend have trouble with groundhogs and raccoons tearing stuff up. They box trap them and I eat them.
Pretty sure if I was in the Faroe Islands during the whale season, I'd pull the rope and help out. I'm pretty handy with a knife.
Edit:spelling
@@raymondo162 Hey, I just looked up you videos and found the puff ball. We dry them and they cook up like dumplings in soup. Our favorite is to brush them lightly with olive oil, add salt & pepper, and grill them. When they are in season, it looks like some one lost soccer balls in the woods. SE Iowa, USA

I came for the scenery but got hungry while watching. This was facilitating for me because I used to collect Postage Stamps from the Faroe Islands.
Happy to hear that!

@@andersandkaitlin You're welcome. Your work is amazing. Love your video capture and even more your detailed story telling. Your editing is exceptional. I love the way you controlled your highlights in the exposure of your video. Very high quality production and great drone footage. Thanks again. Are Children allowed at that restaurant? We want to visit there but have 4 children ages 5 and under. Another question, would I need a 4 x 4 to get there? Because my van is a 2 wheel drive only.
@@life107familyfitnessboxing8 Thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate it. Not sure about children, but I would always check that with each individual restaurant. The transportation part is actually included by the restaurant! But it's worth noting that Koks is currently relocated to Greenland for some time and will reopen at a brand new (even more spectacular!) location on The Faroe Islands later on.
Nice work !!
Thank you! Cheers!
I am so in awe of people from Denmark who are so educated and speak better English than probably the majority of those from the US.
Anders is Norwegian, and Poul Andrias is from the Faroes (so sort of Danish), but Kaitlin IS actually from the US, just FYI. :)
@@andersandkaitlin Thanks for clarifying. The one thing that puzzled me was the Opah tartare because I did not think you could find Opah near the Faroes, more like a tropical fish. Was everything you ate from the local sea and land? The menu was so incredible.
@@glennmcanally Everything is local, so it must have swum up there somehow.

Haha, it wasn't that bad, actually. Just a scary presentation.

wow, that takes a lot of guts to serve Fulmar's head. I read that the locals typically discard the head when they catch the bird and just keep the body.
